PART 2: The Woman He Sent Away Returned As The Person Who Could Destroy His Empire

The toxicology report arrived at my lawyer’s office the next morning.

But I didn’t rush to open it.

For the first time in five years…

I wasn’t desperate for someone to believe me.

I already knew the truth.

And soon, everyone else would too.

Three days later, I left the Montfort mansion.

Not with tears.

Not with anger.

Not with the hope that Alejandro would come after me.

I left with one suitcase.

And the divorce agreement he had signed without reading.

The same document he thought was just another business paper.

The same document that ended our marriage.

Before leaving, I walked through the house one last time.

The living room where we celebrated our first anniversary.

The kitchen where I cooked his favorite meals.

The balcony where he promised:

“Clara, no matter what happens, I will always choose you.”

Funny.

People often make the most beautiful promises when they haven’t been tested yet.

At the entrance, I met Inés.

She was standing there.

Waiting.

Her eyes were full of fake sadness.

“You’re really leaving?”

I looked at her.

“Yes.”

She stepped closer.

“I never wanted this to happen.”

I almost smiled.

“You never wanted what?”

She froze.

“My marriage?”

“My child?”

“Or the fact that I finally stopped being useful to you?”

Her expression changed.

Only for a second.

But I saw it.

“You misunderstand me.”

“No.”

I adjusted my coat.

“I understood everything.”

“The woman who truly feels guilty doesn’t stand in front of the person she destroyed and ask for forgiveness.”

“She asks for mercy.”

Silence.

That afternoon, I met Gabriel Rivas.

The man who had waited for my answer for months.

He looked at me carefully.

Not like Alejandro.

Not like someone examining what I could provide.

But like someone seeing me.

“Clara.”

“Are you sure?”

I nodded.

“Yes.”

“I spent five years choosing someone else.”

A pause.

“Now I choose myself.”

My family’s formulas were not just old recipes.

They were the foundation of a pharmaceutical line that had been passed down for generations.

Natural compounds.

Traditional medicine.

Modern research.

The kind of knowledge companies spent millions trying to acquire.

Alejandro knew my family had a pharmacy.

He never knew it was worth an empire.

Because he never cared enough to ask.

A week after I left, the Montfort Group received an unexpected notice.

The divorce agreement had been officially processed.

And attached to it…

Was a legal statement.

My shares remained untouched.

My inheritance remained mine.

And the woman Alejandro thought he had removed from his life still held influence over several major investments.

When Alejandro read the document, his face changed.

“Impossible.”

His lawyer remained silent.

“She signed.”

“Yes.”

“Then why?”

The lawyer adjusted his glasses.

“Because you never read what you signed.”

That sentence hit harder than anything else.

Meanwhile, the truth about Inés began coming out.

The toxicology report confirmed:

The substance found in her drink was not administered by Clara.

The timing of the incident.

The evidence.

The medical records.

Everything pointed somewhere else.

Someone had intentionally created a situation where Clara would be blamed.

Alejandro refused to believe it at first.

“You’re saying Inés lied?”

The lawyer looked at him.

“I’m saying your wife was innocent.”

Wife.

That word sounded strange.

Because Alejandro suddenly realized something.

He had spent months protecting another woman…

while destroying the only person who had never betrayed him.

He went to find Clara.

But he was too late.

She was already at the Boston laboratory.

Standing in front of a team of researchers.

No longer the woman who waited at home.

No longer the woman begging him to listen.

She was the founder of a new medical division.

The woman investors wanted to meet.

When Alejandro saw her, he stopped.

She looked different.

Not because of clothes.

Not because of status.

Because she no longer needed his approval.

“Clara.”

She turned around.

“Mr. Sáenz.”

That title hurt him.

Because once she called him by a name only she used.

Now she treated him like a stranger.

“I know about the report.”

She nodded.

“Good.”

“I’m sorry.”

The apology came quietly.

Too late.

“I should have believed you.”

“Yes.”

“I should have gone to see you.”

“Yes.”

“I should have protected you.”

Clara looked at him.

“And you didn’t.”

Alejandro lowered his head.

“I lost everything.”

She was silent.

Then she said:

“No.”

“You lost something much earlier.”

“What?”

“The moment you stopped seeing me as your wife.”

He wanted to explain.

To ask for another chance.

But Clara stopped him.

“Do you know what hurt the most?”

Alejandro looked up.

“Not the accusation.”

“Not the detention.”

“Not even losing our child.”

Her voice trembled slightly.

“The worst part was that when I was alone and scared…”

“The person I trusted most was the person who chose not to come.”

Alejandro closed his eyes.

For the first time…

He understood.

Some mistakes could be repaired.

Some wounds could heal.

But some people only realized someone’s value after losing the right to keep them.

Months later, Clara’s company became one of the fastest-growing pharmaceutical brands in the country.

The same woman Alejandro dismissed as “the pharmacy owner’s daughter” became someone everyone wanted to work with.

Including the Montfort Group.

But this time…

They had to ask.

They had to negotiate.

They had to earn her respect.

One evening, a reporter asked Clara:

“Do you regret marrying Alejandro Sáenz?”

She smiled.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because that marriage taught me something important.”

“What?”

“Never confuse being needed with being loved.”

Alejandro once believed signing the divorce papers would erase Clara from his life.

He thought he was freeing himself.

He thought he was choosing a better future.

But he forgot one thing.

The woman he abandoned was the same woman who had stood beside him before he had anything.

And when she finally walked away…

She didn’t lose a husband.

She gained herself.

He thought he was throwing away a wife.

He didn’t realize he was letting go of the woman who could have stood beside him at the top.

And by the time he understood her worth…

Clara Velasco was already beyond his reach.
