PART 2: The Truth Behind The Lost Child Destroyed The Man Who Asked For Forgiveness

The letter stayed in my hands for a long time.

I couldn’t move.

I couldn’t breathe.

Because the first sentence alone had shattered everything I believed for three years.

“Alex, Grace never lost the baby because of me. Your mother ordered everything.”

I read it again.

And again.

My fingers trembled.

Not because I doubted it.

But because a part of me had always known.

There were too many things that never made sense.

Too many questions nobody answered.

Three years ago.

The day I lost my first child.

I remembered every detail.

The cold floor.

The sound of footsteps.

The voices around me.

And Alexander’s mother, Eleanor Reed, standing nearby with an expression that wasn’t shock.

It was satisfaction.

At the time, I thought it was because she hated me.

Because she never believed I was good enough for her son.

But I never imagined…

She was capable of something worse.

I continued reading Sophie’s letter.

“Your mother found out I was involved with Alexander.”

“She knew I wanted him to leave Grace.”

“She told me if I helped her separate them, she would protect my career.”

My heart tightened.

Sophie admitted everything.

She had deliberately gotten close to Alexander during my pregnancy.

She had used her position as my doctor to learn my emotional weaknesses.

She had created situations where Alexander would spend more time with her.

But the accident…

The accident wasn’t supposed to happen.

“Eleanor told me to scare Grace.”

“She wanted Grace to lose confidence and leave Alexander herself.”

“But things went too far.”

“I watched her fall.”

“And I didn’t call for help immediately.”

I covered my mouth.

The pain from three years ago came back like a wave.

Not just losing my child.

But realizing the people around me had known.

They had watched me suffer.

And they let me believe I was the reason everything fell apart.

The next document was a medical report.

A private investigation.

It contained information that had been hidden from me.

The fall had caused complications.

But the biggest factor was delayed emergency treatment.

The report had one conclusion:

“If the patient had received immediate medical attention, the probability of saving the pregnancy would have been significantly higher.”

I closed my eyes.

Three years.

Three years believing my own body had failed me.

Three years blaming myself.

Three years accepting Alexander’s apology because I thought he had already lost enough.

But the truth was different.

He had not lost anything.

I had.

That night, Alexander came home.

He immediately noticed something was wrong.

“What happened?”

I placed the documents on the table.

His expression changed.

“What is this?”

“Read it.”

He picked up the letter.

At first, he looked confused.

Then shocked.

Then completely pale.

“Where did you get this?”

“The safe deposit box you forgot existed.”

His hands tightened around the paper.

“No.”

His voice became unstable.

“No, this can’t be true.”

I looked at him.

“You spent three years defending her.”

“I spent three years believing you.”

A pause.

“Which one of us was more foolish?”

Alexander sat down.

The strongest man in his unit.

The man everyone respected.

The man who never showed weakness.

But that night…

He looked broken.

“I didn’t know.”

I laughed softly.

Not because it was funny.

Because I was tired.

“You didn’t know?”

“You didn’t know your mother hated me?”

“You didn’t know Sophie was lying?”

“You didn’t know your wife lost your child while you were protecting another woman?”

Alexander covered his face.

“I thought I was protecting everyone.”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“You were protecting the person you wanted to believe in.”

The next morning, Alexander confronted Sophie.

She was no longer the confident woman from the store.

She looked exhausted.

When she saw the documents in his hand…

She knew.

“Why?”

Alexander’s voice was broken.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Sophie cried.

“I was scared.”

“Scared?”

“I loved you.”

“No.”

He stepped back.

“You loved winning.”

Then Eleanor arrived.

She tried to explain.

Tried to justify.

“I did what any mother would do.”

Alexander looked at her.

“No.”

His voice was cold.

“You did what a cruel person would do.”

For the first time in years…

Alexander chose me.

But it was too late.

He came to me that evening.

“I’ll divorce you if that’s what you want.”

I looked at him.

“You still don’t understand.”

“What?”

“I don’t want divorce because I hate you.”

“I want divorce because I finally love myself.”

He lowered his head.

“I love you.”

I believed him.

That was the hardest part.

Because I knew he finally meant it.

But love that arrives after destruction…

cannot rebuild everything.

The divorce was finalized two months later.

Alexander gave up everything he could.

Properties.

Shares.

Military benefits.

Not because I asked.

Because he wanted to repay a debt that could never truly be repaid.

Sophie lost her medical license permanently.

Eleanor faced legal consequences for her actions.

The truth that had been buried for three years finally came into the light.

Three months later, I gave birth.

This time…

Alexander was outside the delivery room.

Waiting.

But he wasn’t my husband anymore.

He was only the father of my child.

And that was the only place he deserved to stand.

When he held our baby for the first time, tears filled his eyes.

“I should have been there before.”

I looked at him.

“Yes.”

One word.

No anger.

No cruelty.

Just the truth.

Years later, people still asked me:

“How did you forgive him?”

I always answered:

“I forgave him because I didn’t want hatred to control my life.”

“But forgiveness doesn’t mean giving someone back the place they destroyed.”

The day I found Alexander kissing the woman who destroyed my life…

I thought I was losing everything.

My marriage.

My family.

My future.

But I was wrong.

That day was the beginning of finding myself again.

Because sometimes the greatest revenge is not making someone suffer.

It is walking away…

and becoming someone they can never hurt again.

Alexander Reed lost the woman who loved him most.

Not because she stopped loving him.

But because she finally learned that love should never require her to lose herself.
