Part 2: The Wife Who Knew The Truth First

That night, Gabriel couldn’t sleep.

For the first time in five years of marriage…

he didn’t know what to believe.

Emma’s smile.

The children’s faces.

The memories.

Everything he thought was real suddenly became a question.

At three in the morning, he was still sitting in his study.

The medical report was on the table.

Beside it was a photograph of him and the three children.

Three boys.

Three little faces that had always called him:

“Dad.”

His fingers trembled slightly.

Not because he hated them.

Because he didn’t know what he was supposed to feel.

If they were not his children…

then what had his entire life been?

A lie?

The next morning, Daniel entered the office.

His expression was unusually serious.

Gabriel immediately understood.

“The results?”

Daniel placed a folder on the desk.

“Mr. Shen…”

He hesitated.

“Please prepare yourself.”

Gabriel opened the folder.

The first page.

DNA test.

Lucas Shen.

Probability of biological relationship:

0%.

His breathing stopped.

Second page.

Matthew Shen.

0%.

Third page.

Nicholas Shen.

0%.

The room became completely silent.

No shouting.

No broken objects.

No anger.

Just silence.

Because sometimes the truth was too heavy to make a sound.

Gabriel stared at the papers.

For a long time.

Then he asked:

“Emma knows?”

Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

“Find out everything.”

His voice was cold.

“How long?”

“Who are the biological fathers?”

“Who helped her hide this?”

Daniel nodded.

“Yes, Mr. Shen.”

Then he hesitated.

“And Mrs. Valeria…”

Gabriel’s eyes moved.

“What about her?”

Daniel looked down.

“She seems to have known.”

The sentence struck harder than the DNA results.

Gabriel stood up.

“What?”

“Mrs. Valeria never reacted.”

“Not once.”

“Everyone thought she was indifferent.”

Daniel paused.

“But maybe…”

“Maybe she knew the truth.”

That afternoon, Gabriel returned home earlier than usual.

Valeria was still in the study.

The same place.

The same quiet expression.

She was embroidering another flower.

Like the world outside didn’t exist.

Gabriel stood at the door.

For some reason…

he suddenly felt like he was the outsider.

Not her.

“Valeria.”

She looked up.

“You’re back early.”

He stared at her.

“Why?”

She tilted her head slightly.

“Why what?”

“Why didn’t you say anything?”

The needle in her hand stopped.

Only for a second.

But he noticed.

“You knew.”

Silence.

Gabriel walked closer.

“You knew from the beginning.”

Valeria lowered her eyes.

The answer was already clear.

“Yes.”

One word.

No excuses.

No explanation.

Just yes.

Gabriel felt his chest tighten.

“How?”

She put the embroidery down.

“Because I was there.”

“For what?”

“For your medical examination before we got married.”

His expression changed.

Five years ago.

Before their wedding.

Gabriel had a complete health examination.

It was required by both families.

The results showed his condition.

Congenital infertility.

But at that time, Gabriel’s father asked the doctor to keep it confidential.

Because the Shen family couldn’t accept the humiliation.

And Gabriel…

never knew.

Or perhaps he knew something was wrong.

But he never investigated.

Because life moved forward.

And then Emma appeared.

Pregnant.

Again.

And again.

Everyone celebrated.

Everyone congratulated him.

Everyone except Valeria.

Because she knew.

Every smile.

Every announcement.

Every celebration.

Was built on a lie.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Gabriel’s voice broke slightly.

Valeria looked at him.

For the first time in years…

there was emotion in her eyes.

Not anger.

Not hatred.

Disappointment.

“Would you have believed me?”

He froze.

She continued:

“The first time Emma became pregnant, I told you.”

Gabriel’s face changed.

“You…”

“I said there was something wrong.”

“You told me I was jealous.”

Silence.

“The second time, I showed you the medical records.”

“You said I was trying to destroy your happiness.”

“The third time…”

She smiled faintly.

“I stopped.”

Because she had learned something.

When someone desperately wanted to believe a lie…

the truth only became an enemy.

Gabriel took a step back.

The memories came back.

Every time Valeria stayed silent.

Every time he thought she was cold.

Every time he thought she didn’t care.

Maybe…

she wasn’t indifferent.

Maybe she was exhausted.

“Why didn’t you divorce me?”

The question escaped his mouth.

Valeria looked at him.

“Because I was waiting.”

His heart tightened.

“For what?”

She smiled.

“To see if you would ever choose me without me asking.”

The answer destroyed him.

Because he realized something terrible.

He had spent five years waiting for Valeria to fight for him.

But he had never fought for her.

That evening, Gabriel went to the side house.

Emma was playing with the children.

When she saw him, she smiled.

“Gabriel.”

He looked at the three boys.

The children who had called him father.

The children he had loved.

And suddenly…

his heart hurt.

Because they were innocent.

The betrayal was not theirs.

“Emma.”

She noticed his expression.

“What happened?”

Gabriel placed the DNA report on the table.

Her smile disappeared.

For the first time…

fear appeared on her face.

“You…”

“Explain.”

Silence.

Then Emma cried.

Not because she was sorry.

Because she was caught.

“Gabriel, listen…”

“Who are their fathers?”

She couldn’t answer.

And that silence was enough.

The Shen family collapsed overnight.

The woman everyone believed had sacrificed everything for Gabriel…

was exposed.

But Gabriel did not feel victorious.

Because while everyone discussed Emma…

he could only think about Valeria.

The wife who stayed silent.

The wife who never humiliated him.

The wife who knew everything…

and still protected his dignity.

A week later, Gabriel returned home.

Valeria was packing.

He stopped.

“You’re leaving?”

She nodded.

“Yes.”

“Where?”

“Somewhere quiet.”

His throat tightened.

“Are you leaving me?”

She looked at him.

“Gabriel.”

“Yes?”

“I left you a long time ago.”

The words were gentle.

But final.

He stepped closer.

“I was wrong.”

Valeria said nothing.

“I spent five years making you feel like you weren’t enough.”

Silence.

“I thought you didn’t care.”

A bitter smile appeared on his face.

“But you were the only person who cared enough to stay.”

Her eyes moved slightly.

“I love you.”

The old Valeria would have cried.

The old Valeria would have forgiven him immediately.

But that woman had already spent too many years waiting.

“Gabriel.”

“Yes?”

“I loved you.”

His eyes turned red.

“But love cannot survive when only one person protects it.”

She picked up her suitcase.

“Take care.”

He watched her walk away.

And for the first time…

Gabriel Shen understood what it meant to lose something precious.

Not because someone stole it.

Not because fate took it away.

But because he himself failed to cherish it.

Years later, Gabriel still had everything people admired.

Money.

Power.

Status.

But whenever someone asked him about his greatest regret…

he always answered the same.

“I lost the woman who knew the truth before everyone else.”

“Why?”

“Because she was the only person who loved me enough to tell me.”

A pause.

“And I was the only person who hurt her enough to make her stop trying.”

As for Valeria…

She never became someone else.

She simply returned to herself.

The quiet woman.

The elegant woman.

The woman who had always been there.

Only now…

she was no longer waiting for someone to choose her.

Because she had finally chosen herself.

Gabriel thought losing Emma would destroy him.

But losing Valeria was the first time he truly understood what loss meant.
