PART 2: I Woke Up Before My Husband Could Take Everything From Me

The request sat quietly in my inbox.

“Internal shareholder reorganization.”

A simple name.

A dangerous meaning.

I stared at the document for several seconds.

Then I smiled.

Because this time…

I knew exactly what was coming next.

Nathaniel had always been careful.

That was why nobody suspected him.

He never appeared greedy.

He never demanded anything directly.

He always wrapped his intentions in beautiful words.

“Protecting our future.”

“Making the company stronger.”

“Preparing for expansion.”

And I believed him.

For five years, I believed my husband was my partner.

Until a dream showed me the ending he had already chosen.

I called my lawyer first.

Not my husband.

Not my assistant.

Not anyone who might accidentally warn him.

“Mr. Carter, I need a complete review of all company documents from the last twelve months.”

His voice became serious.

“Did something happen, Ms. Hayes?”

“Not yet.”

I looked at Nathaniel’s office through the glass wall.

“But something is being prepared.”

Three hours later, the lawyer called back.

“Amelia.”

His tone had changed.

“What?”

“There are several documents.”

“Several?”

“Yes.”

“Someone has been preparing a transfer of voting rights.”

My fingers tightened around the phone.

“To whom?”

A pause.

Then:

“Nathaniel Hayes.”

Exactly like the dream.

Not the same way.

Not yet.

But the same destination.

The strange thing was…

I wasn’t hurt.

Not anymore.

Maybe because I had already watched the worst ending.

I had already seen myself begging.

Crying.

Losing everything.

So when reality began moving toward that direction…

I wasn’t the woman in the dream.

I was awake.

That evening, Nathaniel came home earlier than usual.

He brought flowers.

I almost laughed.

Because in my dream…

He had also brought flowers.

Only those flowers were for another woman.

“What’s wrong?”

He looked at me.

“Why are you staring at me?”

I smiled.

“Nothing.”

He walked closer and kissed my forehead.

The same action that once made me feel loved.

Now it only made me notice how easily people could perform affection.

“Dinner tonight?”

He asked.

“Just us.”

I looked at him.

“Of course.”

He smiled.

“Good.”

“Recently you’ve been too busy with the company.”

I lowered my eyes.

“Yes.”

“I have been.”

That night, I prepared his favorite meal.

I acted exactly as before.

Gentle.

Normal.

Trusting.

Because sometimes the best way to catch someone…

Is to let them believe they are still winning.

A week later, Nathaniel asked me to sign another document.

“This is only for convenience.”

He placed it in front of me.

“The company structure needs adjustment.”

I picked it up.

I read every page carefully.

Something I hadn’t done before.

Because before…

I trusted him.

Now…

I trusted the words on paper.

“Why are you reading so carefully?”

He laughed.

“I don’t usually?”

I looked up.

“You always told me I should trust you.”

His smile remained.

“Of course.”

I smiled back.

“Then you won’t mind me checking.”

For the first time…

A trace of impatience appeared on his face.

Only for a second.

But I saw it.

That night, I found another message.

Not on his phone.

On the company system.

A deleted email recovered by my assistant.

From Chloe Brooks.

“When will everything be completed?”

Nathaniel replied:

“Soon.”

“Once she signs, the company will be under my control.”

I closed the screen.

The dream had not been wrong.

It had simply been early.

The next morning, I called an emergency board meeting.

Nathaniel arrived confidently.

He thought he was going to announce a victory.

Instead…

He saw my lawyer.

My financial team.

And every shareholder sitting in the room.

His expression changed.

“Amelia?”

I smiled.

“Good morning, Nathaniel.”

“What is this?”

I pushed a folder toward him.

“The same thing you were preparing for me.”

He opened it.

His face slowly turned pale.

The documents he had hidden.

The transfers.

The unauthorized attempts.

The communication with Chloe.

Everything.

“You investigated me?”

His voice was low.

I looked at him.

“No.”

“I protected myself.”

The room was silent.

Nathaniel finally understood.

The woman he thought was sleeping beside him…

Had already woken up.

“Amelia, listen.”

His voice softened.

“Chloe is not important.”

I almost laughed.

Not important.

The same phrase people used when they wanted to minimize betrayal.

“Then why did you plan to give her what belonged to me?”

He froze.

No answer.

I stood up.

“Five years ago, I married you because I believed we were building something together.”

“Today I know the truth.”

“You weren’t building with me.”

“You were building around me.”

Nathaniel’s eyes became red.

“Can we fix this?”

I looked at him.

The man I once loved.

The man I would have forgiven in another life.

“No.”

“Why?”

I picked up my bag.

“Because I already forgave you once.”

He looked confused.

“When?”

“In the dream.”

He stared at me.

Of course he didn’t understand.

He never would.

Because some people only understand the value of something after they lose it.

The divorce was finalized three months later.

Nathaniel lost his position in the company.

Chloe disappeared from his life when she realized there was no empire waiting for her.

And I…

I rebuilt everything.

Not because I wanted revenge.

Because I finally understood something.

A nightmare is supposed to make you afraid.

But sometimes…

A nightmare is a warning.

A second chance.

A chance to choose differently.

Nathaniel dreamed of taking everything from me.

But he forgot one thing.

The woman in that dream lost because she was asleep.

The woman who woke up…

Was ready.

And this time, nobody was taking anything from her.
