PART 2: THE HOUSE THAT EXPOSED HIS LIES

Daniel’s hand was still shaking when he finished reading the deed.

For the first time in five years…

He didn’t look like the owner of everything.

He looked like a man who had just discovered he had built his entire life on someone else’s foundation.

“Impossible.”

His voice was low.

He looked at my father.

“How can this be?”

My father calmly took the document back.

“Because you never asked.”

“You only assumed.”

The lawyer beside him adjusted his glasses.

“Mr. Ortega, this apartment was legally transferred to Miss Clara Mendoza five years ago.”

“Your name has never appeared on the property documents.”

“Not as owner.”

“Not as co-owner.”

“Not even as a beneficiary.”

Daniel’s face became pale.

Mercedes immediately stepped forward.

“That’s impossible.”

“Clara is Daniel’s wife.”

The lawyer looked at her.

“Marriage does not automatically give ownership rights to property acquired before marriage.”

The room became silent.

I watched Daniel.

The man who had just thrown my parents out.

The man who had said:

“This is my house.”

Now he couldn’t even speak.

My father looked at him.

“Ten minutes ago, you said my wife and I had no right to enter this apartment.”

He paused.

“Now I want to ask you.”

“Who exactly has no right to be here?”

Daniel clenched his fists.

“Clara.”

His voice softened suddenly.

The same voice he used whenever he wanted something from me.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

I looked at him.

“Tell you what?”

“That the apartment was mine?”

He didn’t answer.

Because the truth was obvious.

If I had told him…

Would he have loved me the same?

Or would he have treated me differently because of my family’s wealth?

Mercedes quickly changed her expression.

“Clara, this is just a misunderstanding.”

“You are family.”

“Why hide something like this?”

I almost laughed.

Family.

That word sounded strange coming from her.

The same woman who had just asked my parents to leave because they didn’t look important enough for her son’s guests.

I looked at her.

“I didn’t hide anything.”

“I simply never had a reason to announce my property to people who already decided I owned nothing.”

Her face turned ugly.

Then my father’s assistant opened another folder.

“There is another matter.”

Daniel looked up.

“What now?”

The assistant placed several documents on the table.

“Regarding Ortega Group’s financial situation.”

Daniel’s expression changed instantly.

My father continued:

“Three months ago, Daniel requested a loan using this apartment as collateral.”

Everyone froze.

I looked at Daniel.

“You tried to mortgage my apartment?”

His lips moved.

“Clara, listen…”

“No.”

My voice was calm.

“Now I want to listen.”

“How exactly were you planning to use something that wasn’t yours?”

Daniel became nervous.

“The company had temporary problems.”

“I was going to solve everything.”

“With my property?”

He looked away.

That silence was enough.

My mother, who had been quiet all this time, finally spoke.

“Clara.”

“Do you remember what your father told you five years ago?”

I looked at her.

She smiled sadly.

“He said…”

“Never give someone the key to your life before knowing whether they will protect it.”

I lowered my eyes.

Because suddenly I understood.

My father never hated Daniel.

He was just afraid I loved him too much to see the truth.

That night, the shareholders never arrived.

Because before they entered the building…

They received another message.

The apartment was not Daniel’s.

The investment money behind his company was not completely his.

And the woman he had treated like a burden…

Was the person who could decide whether his empire survived.

At midnight, Daniel came to my room.

For the first time…

He looked afraid.

“Clara.”

I didn’t answer.

He stood at the door.

“I know I made mistakes.”

“Mistakes?”

I turned around.

His eyes lowered.

“Please.”

“Don’t destroy everything because of this.”

I stared at him.

“Daniel.”

“You still don’t understand.”

“I am not destroying your life.”

“You are finally seeing the life you built without me.”

His face changed.

Then his phone rang.

He looked at the screen.

The company secretary.

He answered.

After a few seconds…

His expression completely collapsed.

“What?”

“Say that again.”

Silence.

Then he slowly lowered the phone.

I watched him.

“What happened?”

Daniel looked at me.

And for the first time…

There was real fear in his eyes.

“Someone reported financial irregularities in the company.”

“The investors are requesting an emergency investigation.”

My father stood outside the door.

He spoke calmly:

“Not someone.”

“Me.”

Daniel turned around.

My father looked directly at him.

“Because before you tried to take my daughter’s home…”

“You should have remembered one thing.”

“Anyone who underestimates Clara…”

“Usually regrets it.”

Daniel looked at me.

But this time…

I didn’t see a husband.

I saw a stranger.

And he finally realized…

The woman he had treated as someone who needed him…

Was the only person who could take everything away.

But just as he was about to speak…

My phone received a new message.

From an unknown number.

Only one sentence:

“Clara, if you want to know why Daniel tried to take your apartment…”

“Ask him about the woman he has been secretly meeting for the past six months.”
