Part 2: The Answer He Waited Seven Years to Hear

An Nhien lowered her head.

For several seconds, she said nothing.

Tran Minh Quan felt as if the entire cabin had disappeared around them.

Finally, she whispered:

“Yes.”

Quan stopped breathing.

Nhien looked at the three boys.

“They are your sons.”

Seven years.

Three children.

And he had known none of it.

“Why?”

His voice came out rough.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Nhien’s eyes turned red.

“Because when I left, your company was collapsing.”

“That wasn’t your decision to make.”

“My father owed money. People were threatening our family. I thought if I stayed, I would drag you down with me.”

Quan stared at her.

“So you disappeared while carrying my children?”

“I didn’t know at first.”

That made him freeze again.

“I found out after I left Bangkok.”

One of the boys looked between them.

“Mom… why is uncle angry?”

Quan immediately softened.

“I’m not angry with you.”

The boy studied his face.

Then suddenly smiled.

That same crooked smile.

Quan had to look away.

Nhien quietly said:

“Their names are Khoa, Khai and Khang.”

Quan repeated the names under his breath as if afraid he would forget them.

Then the youngest boy pointed at him.

“Mom, he looks like us.”

The other two stared.

One touched his own eyebrow.

“He really does.”

Nhien closed her eyes.

The secret she had protected for seven years was collapsing in minutes.

Quan sat across from them for the rest of the flight.

He didn’t ask more questions.

He simply watched.

How Khang slept holding the toy plane.

How Khai hated carrots in his meal.

How Khoa always made sure his brothers had blankets before taking one himself.

Every tiny detail felt like a piece of a life stolen from him.

When the plane landed in Hanoi, Quan finally spoke.

“I want a DNA test.”

Nhien went pale.

Not because she doubted the result.

Because she knew what would happen afterward.

Before she could answer, a man waiting near the arrival gate rushed toward them.

The boys immediately shouted:

“Dad!”

Quan stopped walking.

The man smiled, opened his arms and hugged all three children.

Then he looked up at Nhien.

“You’re finally home.”

Quan’s face went cold.

He turned toward her.

“You told me they were my sons.”

Nhien tightened her grip on the luggage handle.

“They are.”

“Then who is he?”

Before she could answer, the man stepped forward and extended his hand.

“Mr. Tran.”

His expression was calm.

“I’ve been waiting seven years to meet you.”

And Quan suddenly realized that An Nhien’s disappearance had never been as simple as she claimed.
