PART 2: THE CURE HE NEVER NEEDED

The elevator doors opened.

And Alexander Moore stepped out.

Vanessa’s husband.

Ethan’s older brother.

The man who had trusted both of them more than anyone else.

For a few seconds, nobody moved.

Alexander looked at me first.

Then at Ethan.

Then at Vanessa sitting on the floor, still wrapped in the sheet.

His expression did not change.

That was worse than anger.

Because Alexander was the kind of man who became silent when he was truly hurt.

—Clara.

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

—What happened here?

I looked at Ethan.

For three years, that man had made me believe he was fragile.

Weak.

Unable to live normally.

He made me feel guilty every time I wanted affection.

Every time I wanted a normal marriage.

Every time I wondered why my husband could barely touch me but could spend hours “working late.”

And now?

Now he stood in front of me exposed.

Healthy.

Strong.

A complete stranger.

I smiled.

—Ask your brother.

Alexander looked at Ethan.

—Is it true?

Ethan opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

Vanessa immediately started crying.

—Alex, please listen to me…

He looked at her.

And for the first time, I saw fear on her face.

Not because she had been caught.

Because she knew what she could lose.

Her perfect life.

Her perfect marriage.

Her perfect image.

Alexander laughed quietly.

Not because it was funny.

Because he couldn’t believe it.

—My wife.

He pointed at Ethan.

—My brother.

He looked around the room.

—And both of you thought I would never find out.

Ethan stepped forward.

—Alex, it’s complicated.

—Complicated?

Alexander’s voice became colder.

“You spent years telling me that Vanessa was like a sister to you.”

Silence.

Then he looked at me.

—And you?

I understood the question.

Not why I was there.

Why I hadn’t told him before.

Why I had protected everyone except myself.

I lowered my eyes.

—I didn’t know.

A bitter smile appeared on his face.

—Neither did I.

The next morning, Ethan came home.

Not because he was sorry.

Because he was desperate.

I was sitting at the dining table when he entered.

He looked exhausted.

Like a man whose entire world had collapsed.

—Clara.

I didn’t answer.

He walked closer.

—We need to talk.

I continued drinking my coffee.

—About what?

—About us.

I looked up.

—There is no “us.”

His face changed.

—Don’t say that.

I almost laughed.

Funny.

For three years, he had acted like our marriage barely existed.

But now that he was losing it…

Suddenly it mattered.

—Ethan.

I placed the cup down.

—Do you remember the first year we married?

He looked confused.

—What about it?

—You told me you had a health problem.

He became silent.

—I believed you.

I continued.

“I went to appointments with you. I searched for doctors. I bought expensive medicine. I changed my entire life because I thought my husband needed me.”

His jaw tightened.

—Clara…

—Do you know what hurt the most?

I looked directly at him.

“Not that you betrayed me.”

Pause.

“Not even that it was Vanessa.”

His expression froze.

“The worst part is that you made me feel like I was the problem.”

He lowered his head.

For once.

He had no excuse.

Three days later, the truth came out.

Alexander did not expose them publicly.

He didn’t need to.

He simply requested a divorce from Vanessa.

And then he gave Ethan one sentence:

“You didn’t steal my wife.”

Pause.

“You destroyed your own brother.”

Ethan lost everything after that.

The company removed him from his position.

His reputation disappeared.

The man who once told everyone he was too sick to have a normal life suddenly became very healthy…

When nobody cared anymore.

A month later, I received a message from Vanessa.

Only one sentence.

“Did you ever hate me?”

I looked at the screen for a long time.

Then I replied:

“No.”

A few seconds later, another message appeared.

“Then what did you feel?”

I smiled.

Because the answer was simple.

“I felt sorry for the woman who had to steal another person’s husband to feel chosen.”

I blocked her.

And for the first time in three years…

I slept peacefully.

Not because Ethan was gone.

But because I finally understood something.

I had spent years trying to cure a marriage that was never sick.

The only thing that had been broken…

Was my trust.

And now, it was finally healing.
