PART 2: THE HOUSEWIFE HE ABANDONED WAS THE WOMAN WHO WOULD MAKE HIM REGRET EVERYTHING

I looked at Cat Vi Minh and suddenly felt strangely calm.

Before today, I had imagined this moment countless times.

I imagined myself crying.

I imagined myself screaming.

I imagined asking him why he could say such cruel words about the woman who had sacrificed everything for him.

But when he stood there accusing me of being unreasonable, something inside me completely disappeared.

The love I had spent years protecting quietly faded away.

—You think I have no contribution to this family? —I asked softly.

Cat Vi Minh frowned.

—What else? I go to work every day. I pay the bills. I carry the pressure of this family. What do you do? Stay home with the child?

His words were exactly the same as the ones I had heard in the office.

Except now, he wasn’t talking to his colleague.

He was saying them directly to my face.

I looked at the man I once admired.

The man who promised me that I would always be his most precious person.

Now he looked at me like I was a burden.

I smiled.

—Okay.

My calm reaction made him uncomfortable.

—Okay? What do you mean?

I picked up my phone from the table.

—It means I understand now.

My mother-in-law immediately became nervous.

—Tieu Tue, don’t make trouble because of a few words. Your husband works hard outside. Men sometimes complain. It’s normal.

I turned to look at her.

—Normal?

She avoided my eyes.

Because she knew.

She knew exactly how much I had done for this family.

When she was sick, I was the one who took her to the hospital.

When my daughter was born, I stayed awake every night.

When Cat Vi Minh needed support to focus on his career, I gave up my own.

I didn’t lose my career because I was incapable.

I lost it because I believed his promise.

“I will take care of everything. You just take care of our family.”

Those words suddenly sounded like the biggest joke of my life.

That night, after my daughter fell asleep, I quietly opened my old laptop.

The one I hadn’t touched in more than a year.

The screen turned on slowly.

Inside were all my previous work documents.

Projects.

Certificates.

Contacts.

Before becoming a wife and mother, I had been a successful marketing director.

I wasn’t a woman who had nothing.

I was a woman who had paused everything for someone who didn’t appreciate it.

I spent the entire night rebuilding my resume.

The next morning, Cat Vi Minh woke up and found breakfast already prepared.

He smiled proudly.

—See? That’s better. Don’t stay angry over small things.

I looked at him.

—I’m not angry anymore.

He seemed satisfied.

He thought I had forgiven him.

He thought everything had returned to normal.

But he didn’t know the woman standing in front of him was no longer the same woman who waited for his approval.

Three days later, I received a phone call.

It was from my former company.

The company I had left when I got pregnant.

The CEO himself wanted to meet me.

When I arrived at the office wearing a professional suit for the first time in years, everyone turned to look at me.

Some recognized me immediately.

—Director Liu? Is that really you?

I smiled.

—Yes. I’m back.

That afternoon, I received an offer.

A position even higher than my previous one.

A salary three times what Cat Vi Minh earned.

I sat in the café afterward, looking at the contract in front of me.

For years, I believed leaving my marriage meant losing everything.

But I finally understood something.

I wasn’t afraid of divorce.

I was afraid of starting over.

And now I was ready.

That evening, Cat Vi Minh came home and threw his jacket on the sofa.

—Why didn’t you prepare dinner?

I calmly continued packing my documents.

—I won’t be cooking anymore.

He froze.

—What?

—I accepted a new job.

The room became silent.

His expression changed from surprise to anger.

—You found a job? Without discussing it with me?

I looked at him.

The same man who had never asked whether I was happy.

The same man who decided my life for me.

Now he was upset because I made a decision without him.

—Why would I discuss my life with someone who thinks I contribute nothing?

His face turned pale.

For the first time, he realized something was wrong.

—Are you threatening me?

I closed my suitcase.

—No.

I looked directly into his eyes.

—I’m preparing myself.

He didn’t understand.

Not yet.

But soon he would.

Because the woman he thought could only stay at home and depend on him…

was about to become the person he needed the most.

And when that day came, Cat Vi Minh would finally understand the price of underestimating his own wife.
