PART 2: THE DEAD WOMAN WHO CAME BACK FOR REVENGE.

The first thing I did after hearing Adrian’s words was laugh.

Not because anything was funny.

Because for the first time in days…

I felt something stronger than pain.

I felt power.

Victor Hale had spent hours standing beside my “grave.”

He had watched people mourn me.

He had accepted condolences while secretly waiting for fifty million dollars to enter his account.

He believed he had erased every trace of me.

But he had made one mistake.

He underestimated the woman he tried to kill.

Adrian noticed the change in my expression.

“You’re thinking about going after him.”

I looked at the billionaire who had just discovered his daughter was alive.

“I’m thinking about making sure he never hurts anyone again.”

For a moment, Adrian said nothing.

Then he reached into his briefcase and placed a file on my hospital bed.

“This arrived this morning.”

I frowned.

“What is it?”

“Everything Victor submitted to the insurance company.”

My fingers trembled as I opened it.

Inside were copies of his statements.

His timeline.

His explanation of my supposed accident.

And then I saw something that made my blood run cold.

A signed document.

Dated three days before the mountain trip.

Victor had already filed paperwork to become the sole beneficiary of the policy.

Before I was even declared dead.

Before any rescue attempt.

Before anyone knew what happened.

“He was already preparing to collect,” Adrian said quietly.

I stared at the signature.

My husband’s handwriting.

The man who promised to protect me.

The man who kissed my forehead every morning.

The man who pushed me off a mountain.

“He never loved me.”

Adrian looked at me.

“No, Elena.”

His voice was calm.

“He loved what you represented.”

The words hurt because they were true.

My money.

My family connections.

My mother’s hidden inheritance.

The life insurance policy he thought would make him rich.

But Adrian wasn’t finished.

“There’s something else.”

He opened another folder.

Inside were photographs.

Victor.

Serena.

Together.

Months before the accident.

My stomach twisted.

I knew they were having an affair.

But seeing the evidence made everything real.

They weren’t just lovers.

They were partners.

They planned this.

Adrian pointed to one photo.

“Look at the date.”

I did.

My hands went cold.

It was taken two weeks before Victor pushed me.

Then Adrian placed another document beside it.

A property record.

A house purchased under Serena’s name.

Paid for by money transferred from Victor’s private account.

“He was building a new life before he destroyed yours.”

I closed my eyes.

The pain was overwhelming.

Not from my injuries.

From realizing I had spent years sleeping beside someone who had already decided I was disposable.

A nurse entered the room.

“Mrs. Hale?”

I looked up.

“Yes?”

“There’s someone here asking to see you.”

My body immediately tensed.

“Who?”

The nurse hesitated.

“Your husband.”

My heart stopped.

Adrian stood.

“No.”

But I grabbed his arm.

“Let him come.”

Adrian looked surprised.

“Are you sure?”

I nodded.

“Yes.”

Because I needed to see him.

I needed to look into the eyes of the man who thought I was buried under snow.

A few minutes later, the door opened.

Victor walked in wearing a black suit.

The same kind of suit he wore at my funeral.

His face was tired.

But not broken.

Not guilty.

Just frustrated.

“Elena…”

The sound of my name from his mouth almost made me sick.

He took one step forward.

“You’re alive.”

I stared at him.

“That disappoints you?”

His expression changed.

“Of course not.”

A lie.

The easiest lie he had ever told.

“I was devastated. I thought I lost you.”

I almost smiled.

“Really?”

“Yes.”

He looked at Adrian.

Then back at me.

“You don’t understand what happened.”

“No.”

I interrupted.

“You don’t understand what happened.”

Silence.

Then Victor lowered his voice.

“Elena, we can fix this.”

I stared at him.

“Fix what?”

“Our marriage.”

I laughed.

A cold, empty laugh.

“You tried to murder me.”

His face changed.

Only slightly.

But I saw it.

Fear.

“You don’t know what you’re saying.”

“Oh, I know exactly what I’m saying.”

I reached for the remote beside my bed.

Then I pressed play.

The hospital room filled with audio.

Victor’s own voice.

Recorded from the insurance investigation.

A conversation he had with Serena.

A conversation where they discussed the payout.

A conversation where he said:

“Once Elena is gone, everything belongs to us.”

Victor froze.

For the first time…

The confident man disappeared.

The powerful businessman disappeared.

The husband who thought he had won disappeared.

All that remained was a guilty man realizing his victim was alive.

But before he could speak, Adrian stepped forward.

“There’s one more thing you should know.”

Victor looked at him.

Adrian’s expression became ice.

“You didn’t just try to kill my daughter.”

Victor’s face went pale.

“You also committed fraud against my company.”

The room became silent.

Because Victor finally understood.

He didn’t just fail to kill me.

He had awakened the one person in the world powerful enough to destroy him.

And then Adrian said the sentence that made Victor take a step backward:

“The insurance money you wanted so badly…”

A pause.

“Was never going to save you.”

“Because the policy was designed to protect my daughter.”

Victor stared at me.

And for the first time since the mountain…

He looked afraid.

But I knew this wasn’t over.

Because while Victor was standing in my hospital room trying to explain himself…

Serena was already making her next move.

And she had a secret that could change everything.
