PART 2: THE SECRET HIDDEN INSIDE HIS WEDDING JACKET.

My scream woke Richard instantly.

He sat up in bed, confused and frightened.

“What happened?”

I couldn’t answer.

I was still staring at the object in my hand.

A small hospital identification card.

Old.

Faded.

But impossible to mistake.

Because the name printed on it belonged to someone who should never have been connected to my accident.

Richard.

My fingers trembled as I turned it over.

On the back was a handwritten note.

One sentence.

“Do not let her remember what happened that night.”

My breathing stopped.

Richard’s face changed the moment he saw what I was holding.

Not surprise.

Not confusion.

Fear.

Real fear.

“Where did you find that?”

I looked at him.

“In your jacket.”

The room became painfully quiet.

For months, I had believed my memory loss was just a terrible accident.

Something random.

Something neither of us could control.

But now…

I wasn’t sure anymore.

“Richard.”

My voice barely came out.

“Why do you have this?”

He sat there silently.

And that silence answered more than words could.

“You knew me before the hospital.”

His eyes lowered.

“Yes.”

My heart sank.

“How long?”

He swallowed.

“The night of the accident.”

I stepped backward.

The room suddenly felt unfamiliar.

“You were there?”

Richard closed his eyes.

“Yes.”

All the moments I thought were coincidences suddenly returned.

The way he always knew what made me uncomfortable.

The way he seemed relieved whenever I remembered small things.

The way he looked at me like he was waiting for a disaster to happen.

“You weren’t just my nurse.”

“No.”

His voice cracked.

“I was one of the people who found you.”

My hands tightened.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Richard looked at the floor.

“Because I was afraid.”

“Afraid of what?”

“That you would hate me.”

I laughed once.

But there was no happiness in it.

“You married me without telling me the truth.”

“I know.”

“You let me fall in love with you while hiding the biggest part of my life.”

“I know.”

He didn’t defend himself.

And somehow, that made it worse.

“Then tell me.”

Richard looked at me.

“Tell me what happened that night.”

For several seconds, he said nothing.

Then he finally spoke.

“You weren’t supposed to survive.”

My body went cold.

“What?”

Richard looked away.

“The accident wasn’t random.”

The room seemed to stop moving.

“What are you saying?”

He took a shaky breath.

“The car crash was caused by someone.”

“Who?”

“I don’t know.”

I stared at him.

“You don’t know?”

“I knew there was something wrong. The police thought it was a normal accident, but I saw details they missed.”

He walked toward the dresser and opened a drawer.

Inside was a folder.

He placed it on the bed.

“I kept everything.”

Photos.

Reports.

Notes.

Things I had never seen.

“Why?”

“Because I blamed myself.”

I looked at him.

“Why would you blame yourself?”

His eyes filled with regret.

“Because before the accident, I was following you.”

My heart stopped.

“Following me?”

Richard nodded slowly.

“I was investigating something.”

“What?”

He hesitated.

Then he said:

“Your father’s death.”

I froze.

My father.

A memory that had always been blurry.

A memory doctors told me might never return.

“You told me my accident caused the memory loss.”

“It did.”

He paused.

“But the memories you lost weren’t only from the accident.”

I felt dizzy.

“What else?”

Richard looked at me.

“You saw something that night.”

A chill ran through me.

“What?”

“You saw who was responsible.”

Silence.

Then suddenly, something flashed.

A road.

Rain.

Headlights.

A voice.

Someone shouting my name.

I grabbed my head.

Pain exploded behind my eyes.

Richard immediately reached for me.

“Don’t force it.”

But it was already happening.

The memory was coming back.

A man standing beside my car.

A familiar face.

Someone I trusted.

Then a sentence whispered through my mind.

“If she remembers, everything falls apart.”

I opened my eyes.

Richard was staring at me.

“You remembered something.”

I couldn’t speak.

Because I did.

And the person from my memory was not a stranger.

It was someone who had attended our wedding.

Someone who had smiled beside me.

Someone who had congratulated us hours earlier.

My hands started shaking.

“Richard…”

“Yes?”

“The person who did this…”

I looked at the wedding ring on my finger.

“The person who destroyed my life…”

A tear fell.

“He was there tonight.”

Richard’s expression changed completely.

Because he finally understood.

The secret hidden in his tuxedo pocket wasn’t just about my past.

It was a warning.

And whoever had tried to erase my memories once…

Had just realized I was starting to remember.
