PART 2: THE PHOTO THAT EXPOSED MY HUSBAND’S DOUBLE LIFE.

The photograph arrived at 3:17 in the afternoon.

I opened Marcus’s message expecting to see Julian meeting with someone suspicious.

I was not prepared for what appeared on my screen.

My husband was standing outside a private law office.

Not alone.

Beside him was a woman I recognized immediately.

Victoria Sterling.

My father’s attorney.

The same woman who had just told me my marriage legally ended two months ago.

I zoomed in on the picture.

Julian looked relaxed.

Confident.

Almost happy.

He wasn’t acting like a man whose wife had discovered a devastating betrayal.

He looked like a man celebrating a victory.

“Marcus,” I called.

“I know,” he replied before I could finish. “I’ve been following him since yesterday. He met with Victoria three times.”

My stomach tightened.

“Why would my father’s lawyer meet with my husband?”

There was a pause.

Then Marcus answered:

“That’s exactly what I’m trying to find out.”

I drove back to Victoria’s office without telling anyone.

I needed answers.

But when I arrived, she was already waiting for me.

Almost as if she knew I was coming.

“Valeria,” she said calmly.

I placed the photograph on her desk.

No greeting.

No hesitation.

“Explain.”

Victoria looked at the picture.

Then she sighed.

“I was hoping you would discover the truth before Julian had a chance to control the story.”

My heart stopped.

“Control the story?”

She walked to the window and stared at the rain.

“Your father never trusted Julian.”

Those words hit harder than I expected.

“My father loved Julian.”

“No,” Victoria said softly. “Your father tolerated Julian because he loved you.”

I remembered the last year of my father’s life.

The arguments.

The tension.

The times he warned me that success could attract people who loved what I had more than who I was.

I always thought he was being overly protective.

Now I wasn’t so sure.

“What did my father know?”

Victoria opened a locked drawer and removed a sealed envelope.

“He discovered Julian had been moving company assets without authorization.”

My face went pale.

“NexaData?”

She nodded.

“He created fake investment reports. He transferred funds through several shell companies. But your father couldn’t confront him immediately.”

“Why?”

“Because Julian had already started preparing his defense.”

I stared at her.

“What defense?”

Victoria placed the envelope in front of me.

“He planned to make you look responsible.”

My hands trembled as I opened it.

Inside were copies of emails.

Financial records.

Private conversations.

And one document that made me feel sick.

A divorce agreement.

The exact same one I had signed.

Except this copy was different.

At the bottom, there was a handwritten note from my father.

“My daughter signed this under emotional distress. Investigate before accepting anything.”

I covered my mouth.

My father knew.

He knew I had been manipulated.

And even while dying, he had been trying to protect me.

“But why didn’t he tell me?”

Victoria’s eyes softened.

“Because Julian isolated you.”

She wasn’t wrong.

Over the past year, Julian had slowly convinced me to step away from certain meetings.

To trust him with more decisions.

To let him “handle the stressful things.”

I thought he was protecting me.

He was removing me.

Then Marcus called.

His voice sounded urgent.

“Valeria, you need to leave that office now.”

I stood up.

“What happened?”

“I checked Julian’s recent transactions.”

A pause.

“He’s not just trying to take control of NexaData.”

My grip tightened around the phone.

“What else?”

“He’s preparing to sell his shares.”

“That makes no sense. Those shares are partly connected to my father’s inheritance.”

Marcus lowered his voice.

“Exactly.”

A cold feeling spread through me.

“Marcus, what are you saying?”

“I’m saying Julian may have known about your father’s will before you did.”

I looked at Victoria.

She had gone completely silent.

Because she already understood.

Julian wasn’t surprised by my inheritance.

He had been waiting for it.

The divorce wasn’t an accident.

The fake documents weren’t just about separating assets.

They were designed to remove him from my father’s protection while keeping access to my company.

Then my phone received a message.

From Julian.

For the first time in two days, he contacted me.

The message was simple.

“Valeria, I know you went to see Victoria. We need to talk before you make a mistake.”

I stared at the screen.

Then another message appeared.

“Your father left you more than money. He left you a secret.”

My breathing stopped.

Because there was only one person who should have known that.

My father.

And he was gone.

Unless…

Unless Julian knew something about my father’s final days that even I didn’t know.

Victoria looked at me.

“Valeria…”

Her voice was barely a whisper.

“You need to find out what happened the night your father died.”

I looked at the divorce papers.

The inheritance documents.

The photograph of my husband.

And suddenly, the $35 million no longer felt like a blessing.

It felt like the reason everyone had been lying to me.
