PART 2: THE WEDDING THAT ENDED BEFORE IT BEGAN

Tan Nghien stared at me as if he was seeing me for the first time.

For five years, he had always believed he understood me.

He knew I hated unnecessary drama.

He knew I rarely argued.

He knew that no matter how difficult things became, I would always choose to communicate instead of walking away.

That was why he thought I was bluffing.

He thought the wedding cancellation was just my way of forcing him to apologize.

He was wrong.

“Tang Ninh,” he said coldly, “are you seriously ending five years because of a car seat?”

I looked at him.

A car seat.

That was what he saw.

Not the late nights I waited for him after hospital shifts.

Not the meals I prepared when he was too busy.

Not the years I stood beside him when his career was still unstable.

Not the trust we built.

Just a seat.

“No,” I said quietly.

“I’m ending it because you showed me exactly where I stand.”

His expression changed.

“You’re exaggerating.”

I smiled.

That sentence hurt more than I expected.

Because it proved everything.

When I was uncomfortable, I was dramatic.

When I had a boundary, I was unreasonable.

When another woman crossed a line, I was supposed to understand.

But when I asked for respect, suddenly I was the problem.

To Duong lowered her head.

“Mr. Tan, maybe I should leave.”

Tan Nghien immediately turned toward her.

“No. You’re not feeling well.”

That tiny movement told me more than any explanation could.

He didn’t notice my disappointment.

He noticed hers.

I nodded slowly.

“See?”

He frowned.

“See what?”

“You didn’t even think about it.”

The emergency room became strangely quiet.

A nurse behind the counter pretended to organize paperwork.

Nobody wanted to interrupt.

Because everyone understood something had broken.

Not because of the passenger seat.

Because of everything behind it.

Seven days before our wedding, he chose another woman’s comfort over mine.

And he still couldn’t understand why that mattered.

Tan Nghien stepped closer.

“Fine. You’re angry. I understand.”

“No, you don’t.”

“Yes, I do.”

He lowered his voice.

“Come home. We’ll discuss this privately.”

I looked at him.

“The house.”

His face stiffened.

“What about it?”

“I said the house isn’t yours either.”

A flicker of confusion crossed his eyes.

Then anger.

“What are you talking about?”

I reached into my bag and pulled out a small envelope.

I had prepared it before coming back to the hospital.

Not because I planned this moment.

Because after five years with Tan Nghien, I learned something important.

When someone repeatedly ignores your words, you eventually have to prepare actions.

I handed him the envelope.

“What is this?”

“Your copy.”

He opened it.

His eyes moved across the page.

Then stopped.

The color slowly disappeared from his face.

“This…”

“Yes.”

“The apartment transfer agreement?”

I nodded.

The apartment we had been living in for three years.

The apartment everyone assumed belonged to him.

The apartment where his family always joked that I was lucky to marry such a successful man.

But they never knew the truth.

The down payment came from me.

The mortgage payments came from me.

The ownership documents had my name.

I never mentioned it because I never cared about proving anything.

I thought we were building a life together.

Until tonight.

“You’re asking me to leave?”

His voice became quieter.

“I’m asking you to respect my decision.”

He looked at me.

For the first time, he seemed afraid.

“Tang Ninh…”

I had heard that tone before.

Not from him.

From people who only realized the value of something after losing it.

To Duong suddenly spoke.

“Sister Tang, I think there is a misunderstanding.”

I turned toward her.

She looked innocent.

Almost hurt.

“I never wanted your relationship to end.”

I smiled.

“But you never moved away from my place either.”

Her expression froze.

“I told you, my stomach hurt.”

“Yes.”

I nodded.

“And I hope you recover soon.”

Then I looked at Tan Nghien.

“But my fiance should have known where to draw the line.”

His jaw tightened.

“You’re making her the villain.”

“No.”

I picked up my bag.

“I’m making my choice.”

I walked toward the exit.

Behind me, Tan Nghien called my name.

“Tang Ninh.”

I stopped.

“Do you really not love me anymore?”

For a second, my heart hurt.

Because the answer was complicated.

I had loved him.

I had loved him enough to imagine growing old beside him.

Enough to choose him every day for five years.

But love alone was never enough.

I turned around.

“I loved you.”

His eyes softened.

“Then why?”

I looked at him.

“Because I finally learned that loving someone doesn’t mean accepting everything they do.”

Then I left.

The next morning, my phone was flooded.

Missed calls.

Messages.

His parents.

My parents.

Friends asking what happened.

Everyone wanted an explanation.

Everyone thought a wedding being canceled one week before the ceremony was a tragedy.

But nobody knew what happened the night before.

Nobody knew that while everyone was preparing flowers and invitations…

I was preparing to save myself.

Then, at noon, I received a message from an unknown number.

One sentence.

“Miss Tang, if you still plan to cancel the wedding, you should know the truth about Tan Nghien and To Duong.”

Attached was a photo.

I opened it.

And my hands went cold.

Because the picture was taken three months earlier.

Long before the hospital night.

Long before the passenger seat.

Long before the wedding invitations were sent.

And in the photo, Tan Nghien wasn’t helping To Duong because she was sick.

He was holding her hand.

Outside a private maternity clinic.

The date on the image was the same day Tan Nghien told me he was working overtime.
