PART 2: THE ACCESS CODE THAT REVEALED HIS REAL PLAN

For several seconds, nobody moved.

The notification remained on my phone screen.

“User Olivia Reed: Authorized access to bedroom safe.”

A simple sentence.

But it destroyed every excuse they had prepared.

Daniel stared at the screen.

Then at me.

Then at Olivia.

And for the first time that night, I saw panic in his eyes.

Not guilt.

Not regret.

Fear.

“Claire, listen to me.”

I raised my hand.

“No.”

My voice was calm.

That seemed to surprise him more than if I had screamed.

Because Daniel knew how I reacted when I was hurt.

He expected tears.

Anger.

An emotional breakdown.

He expected me to prove his argument that I was being unreasonable.

But I wasn’t angry anymore.

I was watching.

And that frightened him.

“Tell me one thing,” I said.

“Why would Olivia need access to our safe?”

Daniel opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

Olivia immediately stepped forward.

“It was only because of the remodeling.”

I looked at her.

“Remodeling gives you permission to open a safe?”

Her face changed.

“No, I mean… Daniel gave me permission because there were important documents inside.”

I slowly turned toward him.

“Important documents.”

“Yes.”

“Documents that belong to me?”

He hesitated.

That hesitation was enough.

I opened the application again and checked the permission history.

The truth was there.

Everything.

The date.

The time.

The person who approved it.

Daniel Carter.

June 13.

9:15 p.m.

The exact night before my business trip.

The same night he told me:

“Don’t worry about the house. I’ll handle everything.”

I looked at him.

“You didn’t handle the house.”

Silence.

“You replaced me.”

Daniel’s expression hardened.

“That’s ridiculous.”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“What’s ridiculous is that you think changing my access, removing my fingerprint, adding another woman as a household member, and giving her access to our safe is just a mistake.”

“It was temporary.”

“Temporary things still require permission.”

He looked away.

That was the moment I knew.

He wasn’t confused.

He wasn’t careless.

He knew exactly what he had done.

Olivia grabbed her bag again.

“I should really leave.”

This time Daniel didn’t immediately stop her.

And that told me something else.

She wasn’t just helping him.

She was involved.

I walked toward the kitchen counter and opened the drawer where we kept the wedding documents.

The drawer was empty.

My heartbeat slowed.

Too slowly.

Because when something shocks you enough, your body sometimes becomes strangely calm.

“Where are the documents?”

Daniel frowned.

“What documents?”

“The wedding fund agreement.”

His eyes moved slightly.

A tiny movement.

But I saw it.

“Claire…”

“Where are they?”

Olivia looked uncomfortable.

Daniel rubbed his forehead.

“I moved some things while organizing.”

“Where?”

“Storage.”

“Which storage?”

He didn’t answer.

I picked up my phone and opened the security history.

The cameras.

The lights.

The thermostat.

Everything Olivia had access to.

The system showed activity.

Not just from today.

From weeks ago.

My hands tightened.

She had been here.

Again.

And again.

And again.

While I was working.

While I was staying late at the hospital.

While I believed Daniel was preparing our future.

There were records of deliveries.

Furniture inspections.

Contractor meetings.

Even grocery deliveries.

All under one name.

Olivia Reed.

I looked at Daniel.

“How long?”

He remained silent.

“How long has she been acting like the owner of this house?”

“Claire…”

“How long?”

Finally, he answered.

“Two months.”

Two months.

I laughed quietly.

Not because it was funny.

Because it was unbelievable.

For two months, I had been planning our wedding.

Choosing flowers.

Confirming guests.

Writing invitations.

While another woman was slowly moving into my place.

“Why?”

The question came out softer than I expected.

Daniel looked at me.

“What?”

“Why her?”

He looked uncomfortable.

And then he made the biggest mistake.

“She was helping me.”

I nodded.

“Helping you do what?”

Silence.

The truth was already there.

I didn’t need him to say it.

But I wanted him to.

“Daniel.”

His face changed.

“Stop.”

“No.”

I stepped closer.

“Say it.”

Olivia looked nervous.

Daniel finally lost patience.

“You’re making this impossible.”

I almost smiled.

“Impossible?”

“Yes. Everything I do becomes a problem with you.”

I stared at him.

Then I understood.

This wasn’t about Olivia.

Not completely.

It was about Daniel believing my place in his life could be replaced.

A house.

A fingerprint.

A chair.

A room.

A woman.

Anything.

As long as it made his life easier.

I opened the final section in the lock app.

The linked devices.

There was one more entry.

A device connected three days before my trip.

Not Olivia’s phone.

Not a tablet.

Another account.

I clicked it.

And my entire body went cold.

The account name was:

“D. Carter Backup.”

Daniel noticed my expression.

“What?”

I looked at him.

“You created a second administrator account.”

His face changed.

“No.”

“Yes.”

I showed him the screen.

“You didn’t just give Olivia access.”

I paused.

“You created a backup system so both of you could control this house without me.”

Neither of them spoke.

And finally, after weeks of feeling like I was losing my place in my own life, everything became clear.

The house was never the real issue.

The safe wasn’t the real issue.

Olivia wasn’t even the biggest problem.

The real problem was that Daniel had already started building a life where I was no longer included.

I put my phone away.

“Tomorrow morning, I’m contacting the lawyer.”

Daniel looked shocked.

“The lawyer?”

“Yes.”

“For what?”

I picked up my suitcase.

“For the house.”

Then I looked at Olivia.

“And for everything else you both thought I would never discover.”

As I walked out of the room, Daniel finally said something that made me stop.

“Claire… there’s something you don’t know.”

I turned around.

His face was pale.

Because for the first time, he wasn’t trying to hide anything.

He was afraid.

“What?”

He swallowed.

“The house…”

A long pause.

“It was never supposed to be ours.”

I stared at him.

“What does that mean?”

He looked down.

And the next words changed everything.

“Olivia’s name was on the original purchase documents.”
