PART 2: THE SECRET OLIVIA HID FOR SEVEN YEARS

I stared at Olivia Hart’s message for almost five minutes.

My first instinct was to ignore it.

After all, she was the reason my wedding had been canceled.

She was the woman standing beside my fiancé on a beach, recreating a romantic memory while I was sitting in a meeting room watching strangers celebrate my future marriage.

But something stopped me.

Maybe it was the way she wrote.

Not arrogant.

Not victorious.

Afraid.

I finally typed:

“What do you want to tell me?”

The reply came almost immediately.

“I don’t know how to say this.”

Then another message appeared.

“Daniel never told you the whole story about that day seven years ago, did he?”

My fingers froze.

The beach date.

The date everyone believed was the greatest regret of Olivia’s life.

The date that had supposedly created a love story that never ended.

I had heard about it before.

Daniel told me once.

Seven years ago, Olivia waited for him on the beach for six hours.

He never arrived.

He said there was a misunderstanding.

He said he was immature.

He said that was the biggest mistake of his youth.

And then he met me.

At least, that was the story I knew.

“What are you talking about?” I asked.

A few seconds later, Olivia sent a photo.

It was an old screenshot.

A message conversation.

Between her and Daniel.

My heart sank before I even opened it.

The date was seven years ago.

The day of the beach appointment.

Olivia had written:

“Daniel, are you still coming?”

Daniel’s response appeared below.

“I can’t.”

Then another message.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t think we should continue this.”

I stared at the screen.

The story I had heard suddenly changed.

“He didn’t forget the date,” Olivia wrote.

“He canceled it.”

I felt a strange emptiness.

Not because Daniel had loved Olivia.

But because Daniel had lied.

“Why are you showing me this now?”

Olivia took longer to answer this time.

“Because I thought after seven years I could finally let him go.”

“Then he appeared on that show.”

“He looked at me like nothing had changed.”

My jaw tightened.

“Why did you accept?”

Her answer came slowly.

“Because I wanted to know if he regretted leaving me.”

I looked at the message.

“And?”

A minute passed.

Then:

“He didn’t.”

“He regretted losing control of the situation.”

“He regretted that people thought he abandoned me.”

“But he never regretted choosing to leave.”

I stopped breathing for a moment.

Because suddenly everything made sense.

Daniel didn’t go on that show because he still loved Olivia.

He went because he wanted to rewrite his own image.

He wanted to become the man who finally gave her the answer everyone expected.

A hero.

A perfect ending.

And I…

I was just the person standing in the way of that story.

That night, Daniel came home and found my suitcase near the door.

His expression changed immediately.

“You’re really leaving?”

I looked at him.

“Yes.”

He shook his head.

“I don’t understand you.”

“No.”

I smiled sadly.

“You don’t understand yourself.”

He stepped closer.

“Clara, it was just a program.”

“Was it?”

“Yes.”

“Then why did you hide it from me?”

He became silent.

Because he knew the answer.

“You knew I would say no.”

His expression changed.

“And you went anyway.”

Daniel looked away.

For the first time, he had nothing to say.

I picked up my suitcase.

“Four years together taught me something.”

“What?”

“Someone who loves you doesn’t need permission to hurt you.”

He looked at me.

“You are ending everything because of one mistake?”

I shook my head.

“No, Daniel.”

“It’s not one mistake.”

“It’s the moment I finally saw the pattern.”

“The moment you chose someone else’s feelings over mine and expected me to accept it quietly.”

Before he could respond, his phone rang.

Olivia.

He rejected it.

Then it rang again.

And again.

Finally, he answered.

“What?”

I didn’t plan to listen.

But then I heard Olivia’s voice.

“Daniel, you need to tell her the truth.”

His face changed.

“What are you talking about?”

“The contract.”

Silence.

My steps stopped.

“What contract?” I asked.

Daniel immediately turned around.

“Clara…”

I looked at him.

“What contract?”

Olivia continued through the phone.

“The one you signed before going on the show.”

Daniel’s face became pale.

“Stop.”

But Olivia didn’t.

“The production company asked him to create a romantic reunion story.”

“He agreed.”

“He knew exactly what they wanted.”

My heart felt heavy.

Not because of the show.

But because of what came next.

Olivia’s voice trembled.

“And Clara…”

“There’s something else.”

I looked at Daniel.

The man I almost married.

The man who promised to protect my heart.

“What else?”

A long silence followed.

Then Olivia whispered:

“Daniel didn’t choose me over you.”

“He chose the show because he thought…”

“He could marry you after it ended.”

I frowned.

“What does that mean?”

Olivia answered:

“He never planned to tell you that the wedding episode was supposed to become the final scene.”

“The scene where he would publicly close his old love story…”

“And introduce you as the woman he chose.”

The room became completely silent.

Because I finally understood.

Daniel didn’t see me as his future wife.

He saw me as the final chapter of a story that started with another woman.

And the worst part was…

He never realized how cruel that was.

I looked at him one last time.

“Daniel.”

He raised his eyes.

“Do you know what hurts the most?”

He didn’t answer.

“It’s not that you loved someone before me.”

“It’s that after four years…”

“You still made me feel like I was only the person who came after.”

I opened the door.

And walked away.

Behind me, Daniel called my name.

But this time…

I didn’t stop.

Because ten days before my wedding, I lost a fiancé.

But I finally found myself.

And Daniel Reeves was about to discover that losing me would become the biggest regret of his life.
