Part 2: The Woman Who Was Never Supposed To Survive

I stood outside the operating room, watching the red light above the door.

For seven years, Marcus Meng had been my husband.

For seven years, I had believed that if I loved him enough, he would eventually choose me.

But now I was standing in a hospital corridor, waiting to hear whether the man who betrayed me would survive.

And the strangest part was…

I wasn’t crying.

I wasn’t praying.

I wasn’t begging the universe to save him.

The only thing I could think about was the floating words that had appeared before my eyes.

The comments.

The invisible voices that claimed they knew my fate.

They said I was supposed to die.

They said Mandy Lin was the real protagonist.

They said my husband would leave me behind so she could inherit everything and live a perfect life.

But they were wrong about one thing.

I was still alive.

And now I wanted to know why.

A doctor finally walked out.

“Mrs. Meng?”

I turned.

“Yes?”

His expression was serious.

“Your husband passed away.”

I nodded slowly.

I expected the pain.

The shock.

Something.

But all I felt was a strange emptiness.

Maybe because the man I married had already disappeared long before his body did.

“His family has been contacted,” the doctor continued.

“There is also another patient.”

“Mandy Lin.”

The moment he said her name, the comments appeared again.

Floating in front of me.

Bright.

Cold.

Cruel.

“The heroine cannot die here.”

“Mandy must wake up and expose Summer.”

“The villain survived because she changed the story.”

I stared at the words.

Villain.

They were calling me the villain.

The wife who discovered her husband’s betrayal.

The woman who stepped aside instead of forcing two people to stay together.

The woman who survived.

I almost laughed.

Then my phone vibrated.

A message appeared.

It was from Marcus’s lawyer.

Mrs. Meng, we need to discuss the inheritance immediately.

I frowned.

Inheritance?

That was strange.

Marcus had never mentioned anything about changing his will.

I called back.

The lawyer answered quickly.

“Mrs. Meng, I’m sorry for your loss.”

“What inheritance are you talking about?”

There was a pause.

Then he said:

“Mr. Meng updated his documents three months ago.”

My fingers tightened around the phone.

“Updated them how?”

The lawyer hesitated.

“Most of his personal assets were transferred into a trust.”

“For whom?”

Another silence.

Then:

“For the child Mandy Lin is carrying.”

Everything around me became quiet.

The comments appeared again.

“Perfect.”

“Everything is following the original plot.”

“Summer will lose everything and disappear.”

I looked toward the operating room.

So that was the plan.

Marcus wasn’t just cheating.

He was preparing a future without me.

A future where his mistress became the woman everyone protected.

And I became the obstacle.

But there was something they didn’t know.

I had recorded the jump.

The accident.

The conversation before it.

Everything.

I opened my phone.

The video was still there.

The moment Marcus said:

“Let’s consider this trip as a farewell.”

The moment Mandy smiled.

The moment they stood together on the platform.

The moment the rope broke.

A small detail suddenly caught my attention.

I replayed the video.

Then paused.

Zoomed in.

The guide had checked the equipment.

The employees had inspected the harnesses.

Everything looked normal.

Except one thing.

Before Marcus and Mandy jumped…

Someone had walked behind the equipment area.

Someone wearing a hotel uniform.

Someone who was not part of the bungee team.

I replayed it again.

My heart started beating faster.

Because I recognized that person.

It was not a stranger.

It was Marcus’s assistant.

The same assistant who always handled his private arrangements.

The same person who knew about Mandy.

The same person who had booked this trip.

The comments suddenly changed.

For the first time…

They weren’t talking about Mandy.

They weren’t talking about my death.

They were panicking.

“Wait.”

“This wasn’t supposed to happen.”

“Who changed the event?”

I stared at those words.

Then I understood.

The comments weren’t showing me the future.

They were showing me a story someone wanted to happen.

And someone had just interfered.

My husband and his lover were supposed to die together.

But only Marcus died.

Which meant…

Someone had changed the script before I did.

A nurse suddenly rushed out from Mandy’s operating room.

“Family of Mandy Lin?”

I turned.

The nurse looked at me.

“Her condition is stable.”

The comments exploded.

“Good.”

“The heroine survives.”

Then another line appeared.

A line I had never seen before.

“But why is Summer still alive?”

I stared at it.

And for the first time…

The invisible voices sounded afraid.

I looked down at my phone.

At the recording.

At the evidence.

At the woman who was supposed to replace me.

And I smiled.

Because maybe I wasn’t a side character in someone else’s story.

Maybe I was the only person who could rewrite the ending.
