/Part 2: The Family That Chose the Wrong Enemy

Alexander did not say a word when he first saw his daughter.

He simply knelt beside Sofia and carefully held her hand, as if she were still the little girl who used to fall asleep on his shoulder after playing in the garden.

For years, I had seen many versions of Alexander.

The ambitious businessman.
The stubborn husband.
The man who believed he could control every situation.

But that night, I saw something I had not seen in a long time.

A father.

A father who looked at his injured daughter and realized he had been absent when she needed him the most.

“Sofia,” he whispered, his voice shaking, “who did this to you?”

She looked away.

Not because she wanted to protect Carmen.

Because she was afraid.

Afraid of what would happen if she told the truth.

I sat beside her.

“Sofia, look at me.”

She slowly raised her eyes.

“You are home now.”

Those words finally broke the wall she had built.

She started crying.

Not the quiet tears she had been holding back.

The kind of crying that comes after someone has been forced to be strong for too long.

“She said I was useless,” Sofia whispered.

Alexander’s expression changed.

“She said I was lucky Javier wanted me because without the condo, I had nothing to offer.”

His hands tightened.

“She kept saying that after marriage, everything I owned belonged to their family.”

The room became silent.

Because that was the real reason.

It was never about tradition.

It was never about family.

It was greed.

Alexander stood up slowly.

“Where is Javier?”

Sofia immediately grabbed his arm.

“Dad, don’t.”

He looked at her.

“Why?”

“Because they are powerful. His family knows many people. They will say I am lying.”

I looked at Alexander.

For a moment, I thought he would hesitate.

But I was wrong.

The man who had been away for years disappeared.

The father returned.

“Let them say whatever they want.”

His voice was cold.

“But they will say it in front of a judge.”

The next morning, before sunrise, Alexander had already contacted his lawyers.

Not one.

Not two.

An entire legal team.

I watched from the kitchen as he made calls, reviewed documents, and gathered every piece of information about the Robles family.

Carmen had underestimated one thing.

She thought Sofia was alone.

She thought a young woman would be too afraid to fight back.

She forgot Sofia had parents.

She forgot Sofia had a father who built his entire career knowing how to destroy people who crossed the line.

At eight in the morning, Javier finally called.

Sofia stared at the phone.

Her hands trembled.

I answered.

A calm voice came through.

“Mrs. Elena, I think there has been a misunderstanding.”

I almost laughed.

A misunderstanding.

That was what he called it.

“My wife had an emotional reaction yesterday. My mother only wanted to teach her some respect.”

My blood went cold.

“Respect?”

“Yes. Carmen is old-fashioned. She believes daughters-in-law should understand their responsibilities.”

I looked at Alexander.

His expression became darker.

Then Javier continued.

“And honestly, this situation would disappear if Sofia simply transferred the condo. My mother would calm down.”

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

Then Alexander took the phone from my hand.

“Javier Robles.”

The silence on the other side was immediate.

“You know who I am?”

Javier’s voice changed.

“Mr. Alexander…”

“Yes.”

Alexander looked at Sofia.

“My daughter owns that condo because I gave it to her. It was never yours. It was never your mother’s.”

A pause.

“And now you are asking her to give away property after your family attacked her?”

Javier tried to explain.

But Alexander interrupted.

“No.”

One word.

Powerful enough to end the conversation.

“You made the biggest mistake of your life.”

After hanging up, Alexander looked at Sofia.

“I should have protected you earlier.”

Sofia lowered her eyes.

“Dad…”

“No.”

His voice softened.

“That is my failure, not yours.”

I stood there silently.

Because despite everything that had happened between Alexander and me, I knew one thing.

He was sincere.

He had missed years with his daughter.

And now he was determined to make sure nobody hurt her again.

But that afternoon, something unexpected happened.

A package arrived at our door.

No sender.

Inside was a folder.

Documents.

Photographs.

Messages.

At first, I thought it was another threat from the Robles family.

But when Alexander opened the folder, his face changed.

Because inside was evidence that Javier’s family had done this before.

Sofia was not the first woman they had targeted.

And Carmen’s plan to take the condo was not a sudden idea.

It was a pattern.

A carefully planned operation.

Alexander slowly closed the folder.

Then he looked at me.

“Elena.”

I knew that expression.

Something had changed.

“What is it?”

He handed me the first page.

And when I read the name written there, my heart stopped.

Because the previous woman who had suffered the same fate…

was someone we both knew.

Someone who had disappeared years ago.

And suddenly, this was no longer just about saving Sofia.

It was about exposing an entire family secret.
