/Part 2: The Trap That Changed Everything

I thought I had prepared myself for the moment when Andrew would finally reveal his true face.

I thought seeing the betrayal would be the hardest part.

I was wrong.

The hardest part was realizing that the man who had slept beside me for ten years had been living an entirely different life while I was still protecting the memories of ours.

That night, after Andrew left, I sat alone in the living room of the house I had inherited from my parents.

The same house where I had spent my childhood.

The same place where Andrew once promised me that we would build a future together.

Now it was the place where he planned to replace me.

I looked at the wedding photo hanging on the wall.

Ten years.

Ten years of defending him.
Ten years of making excuses for him.
Ten years of believing that maybe one day his family would finally accept me.

His mother had blamed me for everything.

For not having children.
For not being “woman enough.”
For not giving Andrew the family name she wanted.

And Andrew?

He always stayed silent.

I used to think his silence meant he was trapped between two sides.

Now I understood.

His silence was a choice.

My phone suddenly rang.

Unknown number.

I answered.

A woman’s voice came through.

“Mrs. Carter?”

“Yes?”

There was hesitation.

Then she said:

“I think you deserve to know the truth about Andrew.”

My hand tightened around the phone.

“Who are you?”

“My name is Natalie. I worked with Andrew for three years.”

I stayed silent.

“I saw what he and Chloe were planning.”

Planning.

That word caught my attention.

“What do you mean?”

The woman took a deep breath.

“Andrew wasn’t just hiding an affair.”

The room became colder.

“He was preparing to divorce you.”

I closed my eyes.

Of course.

The hotel bill.
The hidden conversations.
The sudden interest in his appearance.

It all made sense.

“He wanted to make you look unstable,” Natalie continued. “He wanted everyone to believe the marriage ended because of your inability to have children.”

My heart sank.

Not because it hurt.

Because it was exactly the kind of cruelty I should have expected.

“He told people you were emotionally difficult,” she said. “He was building a story where he was the victim.”

I looked at the documents on the table.

Years of financial records.

Proof of everything I had contributed.

Everything I had sacrificed.

“Why are you telling me this?”

There was a pause.

“Because I found something.”

“What?”

“A file.”

My breathing slowed.

“What kind of file?”

“A file showing that Andrew knew about your medical situation years ago.”

I froze.

“What are you talking about?”

“He knew you were not the reason you couldn’t have children.”

The words hit harder than anything else.

For ten years, I had carried the blame.

I had listened to his mother tell me I had failed.

I had cried alone after every doctor’s appointment.

And Andrew knew.

He knew the truth.

But he let me suffer.

“He changed the medical reports,” Natalie whispered.

I couldn’t speak.

The pain I felt was no longer heartbreak.

It was something much colder.

A realization.

I had not lost a husband.

I had escaped someone who had been controlling my entire life.

The next morning, Andrew returned.

He walked through the front door wearing the same confident expression.

The expression of a man who believed he had already won.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

I looked at him.

For years, that question would have made me cry.

Because I wanted him to care.

Now it only sounded like acting.

“I’m fine.”

He smiled.

“Good. I was worried you were stressed.”

I almost laughed.

He still thought I knew nothing.

He still thought I was the same woman who would forgive anything.

Andrew walked closer.

“We need to talk about our future.”

Future.

A word he used so easily.

I poured him coffee.

Then I placed a folder on the table.

His expression changed slightly.

“What is this?”

I smiled.

“Something you should read carefully.”

He opened it.

The first page.

Then the second.

His face slowly lost color.

Because inside were not accusations.

Not emotional messages.

Not angry words.

Just facts.

Documents.
Records.
Evidence.

Everything he thought I would never find.

“You hired someone to investigate me?”

I looked at him calmly.

“No.”

A pause.

“I finally started investigating my own life.”

For the first time, Andrew looked afraid.

Not guilty.

Afraid.

Because he realized something important.

The woman he thought he could easily discard had spent ten years building everything around them.

And she knew exactly how to protect herself.

Then his phone rang.

He looked at the screen.

Chloe.

He rejected the call immediately.

Too late.

I had already seen the fear in his eyes.

And that was when I knew.

Whatever they had planned for me…

was about to collapse on them instead.

But before I could reveal everything I knew, another message arrived.

From Chloe.

Only five words.

“Andrew never told you, did he?”

I stared at the screen.

Because I suddenly realized there was still one secret left.

A secret even Andrew had been hiding from his own mistress.
