/Part 2: THE SECRET ADRIAN HID IN LEO’S NURSERY

I thought hearing Adrian say those words was the worst moment of my life.

I was wrong.

Because the truth I discovered next was something far more dangerous.

Adrian hadn’t just planned to take control of my company.

He had been preparing for it long before the wedding day.

I carried Leo back into the bridal suite while Teresa locked the door behind us.

My son was still asleep.

His tiny fingers held onto the fabric of my wedding dress, completely unaware that the man he called “Dada” had just revealed who he really was.

“Tell me everything,” I whispered.

Teresa looked terrified.

Three nights earlier, she had been cleaning Leo’s nursery after midnight.

She said she noticed something strange.

A small section of the wooden panel behind the bookshelf wasn’t sitting correctly.

At first, she thought it was just loose because of the humidity.

But when she moved it, she found something hidden behind it.

A small black device.

A recording device.

My stomach tightened.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because I wasn’t sure what it was,” Teresa said. “And then yesterday, I saw Adrian checking that exact place.”

I looked toward the door.

For years, I had trusted Adrian inside my home.

Around my son.

Around my business documents.

Around everything I had built.

I had given him access because I believed he loved us.

Teresa reached into her purse and handed me a small envelope.

“I found this with the device.”

My name was written on the front.

Not “Elena.”

Not “Ms. Sterling.”

Just one word.

“Mother.”

My hands froze.

I opened it carefully.

Inside was a printed document.

At first, I didn’t understand what I was looking at.

Then I saw the title.

Guardianship and Asset Transfer Agreement.

My heart started pounding.

The document named Adrian Hayes as Leo’s legal guardian in the event of my death or incapacity.

But that wasn’t the worst part.

Attached was another page.

A financial agreement.

It listed Sterling Developments.

My properties.

My private accounts.

Everything.

Adrian had already prepared the paperwork to gain control of my entire life.

Before we were even married.

I sat down slowly.

The woman looking back at me in the mirror didn’t look like a bride anymore.

She looked like someone who had just survived an attack.

“He planned this,” Teresa whispered.

I nodded.

But there was one question I couldn’t answer.

Why?

Adrian wasn’t poor.

He came from a wealthy family.

He had his own investments.

He didn’t need my money.

Unless…

Unless there was something else.

Something I didn’t know.

I grabbed my phone and opened Adrian’s contact.

My first instinct was to confront him.

But then I remembered his confidence.

His calm voice.

The way he believed he had already won.

No.

I wasn’t going to give him a warning.

I was going to let him believe everything was going according to plan.

“Teresa,” I said quietly.

“Yes?”

“Can you take Leo somewhere safe?”

Her eyes widened.

“Where are you going?”

I looked down at my wedding dress.

The dress I had spent months choosing.

The dress I thought I would wear when I started a new chapter of my life.

Instead, I was going to wear it for something else.

“Downstairs.”

“You’re still going?”

I smiled.

But there was no happiness in it.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because Adrian expects a bride.”

I picked up my phone.

“And that’s exactly what he’s going to get.”

Except he wouldn’t get the woman he thought he controlled.

When I walked into the garden, everyone turned.

The guests smiled.

The orchestra began playing.

Adrian stood at the end of the aisle wearing the perfect expression of a loving future husband.

He looked at me like he had already won.

Like the company was already his.

Like Leo was already his son.

Then I saw something.

A man standing behind Adrian.

Someone I recognized.

Someone who should not have been there.

My company’s chief legal officer.

And beside him was a woman holding a folder.

A woman I hadn’t seen in seven years.

My former business partner.

The woman who disappeared after accusing me of stealing millions from Sterling Developments.

Adrian looked toward them and smiled.

That was when I realized something.

He wasn’t just planning to marry me.

He was planning to destroy me.

But he had made one mistake.

He underestimated the woman who built everything he wanted to steal.

I walked down the aisle slowly.

Everyone thought I was walking toward my wedding.

They had no idea I was walking toward a war.

And before Adrian could say a single word, my former partner stepped forward and whispered:

“Elena… before you marry him, you need to know what he did to your company seven years ago.”
