Part 2: THE HUSBAND WHO FINALLY REALIZED HE LOST ME

For the first time in seven years, Adrian Valdés felt afraid.

Not because of a business crisis.

Not because of an enemy.

Not because of losing money or reputation.

He was afraid because Sofia no longer cared.

And that was something he had never imagined.

For years, he had believed one thing.

No matter how much she cried.

No matter how many arguments they had.

No matter how many times she threatened to leave.

Sofia would always come back.

Because she loved him.

Because she needed him.

Because she was the woman who once fought against the entire world just to protect their marriage.

But now…

She looked at him like he was a stranger.

That night, after Sofia left the room, Adrian stood there holding the roses he had brought.

The flowers suddenly looked ridiculous.

Because he remembered something.

Before the accident, Sofia would have thrown them away.

She would have cried.

She would have asked why Isabella was more important.

She would have demanded answers.

She would have fought.

But the woman who stood before him today didn’t fight.

She simply gave him permission to leave.

And somehow, that hurt more than anger.

The next morning, Adrian expected a message.

A call.

A complaint.

Anything.

But there was nothing.

Sofia didn’t ask where he was.

She didn’t ask if Isabella was staying.

She didn’t ask about Leo.

She didn’t even ask why he didn’t come home.

Silence.

A silence that slowly drove him crazy.

At noon, he called her.

She answered calmly.

“Hello?”

That simple greeting made him uncomfortable.

Before, she always answered with emotion.

Now she sounded polite.

Like she was speaking to a stranger.

“Where are you?”

“At home.”

“Why didn’t you call me?”

Sofia paused.

“Why would I?”

Adrian froze.

“What do you mean?”

“I thought you were busy.”

The way she said it was gentle.

But somehow it felt cruel.

Because there was no accusation.

No jealousy.

No sadness.

Only indifference.

“I’m your husband.”

Sofia looked at the divorce documents on her desk.

“I know.”

“Then why are you acting like you don’t care?”

She was silent for a moment.

Then she answered:

“Because I don’t remember loving you.”

Those words destroyed him.

Not because they were meant to hurt.

But because they were true.

After the accident, Sofia had lost seven years of memories.

She forgot the pain.

She forgot the humiliation.

She forgot all the times she begged him to choose her.

And she also forgot the love that kept her trapped.

Adrian finally understood.

The woman in front of him wasn’t the Sofia who had spent years chasing him.

She was the Sofia from before.

The girl who had dreams.

The girl who believed she deserved to be chosen.

That afternoon, Adrian went to the hospital where Sofia had recovered after the accident.

He searched through old records.

Old conversations.

Photos.

Everything.

And for the first time, he saw his marriage from another perspective.

There were hundreds of pictures.

Sofia smiling alone.

Sofia waiting alone.

Sofia sitting beside him while he looked at his phone.

Sofia standing next to Isabella while everyone praised the other woman.

He had always thought Sofia was dramatic.

Difficult.

Unreasonable.

But looking back…

She had only been asking for the smallest thing.

To matter.

Adrian sat there for hours.

Then he found an old recording.

A video taken one week before the accident.

Sofia was sitting on the balcony.

Her eyes were red from crying.

And she was talking to herself.

“If one day I stop loving him, maybe I’ll finally be free.”

Adrian stopped breathing.

Because he finally understood.

The accident didn’t change Sofia.

It released her.

Meanwhile, Sofia met with her lawyer.

The divorce process was surprisingly simple.

She didn’t want revenge.

She didn’t want Adrian’s money.

She only wanted her freedom.

Her lawyer looked surprised.

“Mrs. Valdés, are you sure?”

Sofia nodded.

“Yes.”

“You could request a lot considering the circumstances.”

She smiled.

“No.”

“Why?”

Sofia looked out the window.

“Because I don’t want compensation for a life I don’t want anymore.”

That sentence reached Adrian before the papers were even finalized.

And for the first time…

He panicked.

That night, Adrian went home.

Not to Isabella.

Not to the mansion.

To Sofia.

She was packing a small suitcase.

Not because she had nowhere to go.

Because she had already decided.

She was leaving.

“Sofia.”

She turned around.

“What happened?”

Adrian stared at her.

And suddenly, the powerful man everyone admired looked completely lost.

“Don’t leave.”

She looked confused.

“Why?”

The question broke him.

Because he had expected anger.

He had expected accusations.

He had expected tears.

He never expected her to ask why.

“Because I love you.”

Sofia stared at him.

For a long time.

Then she quietly said:

“No, Adrian.”

“You love the woman who always stayed.”

His face changed.

“You love the woman who forgave everything.”

She closed the suitcase.

“But I am not her anymore.”

Adrian stepped forward.

“I can change.”

Sofia smiled sadly.

“I believe you.”

That answer surprised him.

“Then why?”

“Because some things are not repaired by changing after you break them.”

Silence filled the room.

Then Adrian whispered:

“Is there really no chance?”

Sofia looked at him.

Seven years ago, she would have said yes.

Seven years ago, she would have forgiven him.

But nineteen-year-old Sofia was gone.

And the woman standing there had finally remembered something more important.

Her own worth.

“No.”

Adrian closed his eyes.

Because for the first time…

He experienced what Sofia had felt for years.

Being rejected by the person you love.

Three months later, the divorce was finalized.

Adrian lost the woman who once loved him more than herself.

Isabella disappeared from his life after the truth about her manipulation came out.

And Leo eventually learned the truth about his family.

But Sofia?

She started again.

She returned to the dreams she had abandoned.

She traveled.

She built a new career.

She met people who valued her without needing her to prove anything.

One year later, Adrian saw her again.

She was standing in a bookstore.

Laughing.

Happy.

Not because someone chose her.

Because she chose herself.

He wanted to walk toward her.

He wanted to apologize one more time.

But then he stopped.

Because he finally understood.

Some people don’t leave because they stop loving you.

Sometimes they leave because they finally learn to love themselves.

And Sofia…

had finally become free.
