/PART 2: The Watch That Exposed Everything

“Alexander gave it to me.”

For a moment, I forgot how to breathe.

The noise of the executive floor faded away.

The footsteps.
The conversations.
The ringing phones.
Everything disappeared except those five words.

Alexander gave it to me.

I looked at Camila’s face, searching for hesitation.

There was none.

She wasn’t nervous.

She wasn’t afraid.

She was enjoying my reaction.

A month ago, when I asked my husband to buy that watch for his mother’s birthday, I had even sent him the exact specifications.

The white ceramic case.
The diamond placement.
The silver crescent moon detail.

I remembered how excited I was.

His mother had always treated me like her own daughter, and I wanted to give her something unforgettable for her sixty-fifth birthday.

Alexander had promised me.

“Don’t worry, Elena. I’ll personally take care of it.”

Personally.

That word suddenly felt different.

“Interesting,” I said quietly.

Camila tilted her head.

“What’s interesting?”

“That you received a gift meant for someone else.”

Her smile froze for half a second.

Then she recovered.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Of course you don’t.”

I stepped closer.

“But I know exactly what I’m looking at.”

The junior employee nearby looked between us, confused.

Camila lowered her voice.

“You should be careful.”

“About what?”

“About accusing people above your position.”

I almost laughed.

My position.

That was the problem.

For years, I had worked behind the scenes.

I had rebuilt failing divisions.

Negotiated acquisitions.

Saved millions of dollars.

But because I didn’t wear designer clothes or walk around surrounded by assistants, people assumed I was invisible.

Camila had made the same mistake.

She had judged the cover of a book without knowing who wrote it.

Before I could respond, the executive doors opened.

A group of directors walked out.

And behind them was Alexander.

My husband.

The man I had loved for ten years.

The man who knew every scar, every dream, every sacrifice I had made for our company.

He stopped when he saw me.

For the briefest moment, surprise flashed across his face.

Then something else replaced it.

Concern.

“Elena?”

The entire hallway became silent.

Camila’s confidence disappeared instantly.

Alexander walked toward us.

“What are you doing here?”

I stared at him.

Not because he was surprised.

Because he didn’t look happy to see me.

He looked afraid.

“I could ask you the same question,” I replied.

His eyes moved toward Camila.

Then toward her wrist.

And for the first time that morning, I saw real panic.

Only a second.

But enough.

Camila noticed too.

She quickly stepped beside him.

“Alexander, this woman was causing trouble downstairs. She forced her way into the executive elevator and refused to follow security rules.”

I watched my husband carefully.

Ten years together had taught me every expression he had.

The way his jaw tightened when he was angry.

The way he looked away when he was uncomfortable.

The way he tapped his fingers when he was hiding something.

And right now…

He was hiding something.

“Is that true?” he asked me.

Not “Are you okay?”

Not “What happened?”

The first thing he asked was whether Camila’s story was true.

Something inside me cracked.

“No.”

My voice remained calm.

“She stopped me because she thought I was an intern.”

Alexander looked at Camila.

“Camila?”

She immediately softened.

“I was only protecting the executive area. You know how important security is.”

Security.

A convenient word.

I glanced at the watch.

“So that’s what we call it now?”

Alexander’s face changed.

“About what?”

I looked directly at Camila.

“The watch.”

Silence.

Complete silence.

Camila touched the bracelet instinctively.

Then smiled.

“Oh, this?”

“Yes.”

She looked at Alexander.

Then back at me.

“Alexander gave it to me.”

The words landed harder this time.

Because now he heard them.

Everyone heard them.

My husband said nothing.

And his silence answered more questions than any confession could have.

I had imagined betrayal many times.

I had imagined arguments.

Denials.

Excuses.

I never imagined standing in the middle of my own company while the man I married couldn’t even pretend to be surprised.

“Alexander,” I said softly.

He finally looked at me.

“Can we talk privately?”

A year ago, I would have followed him immediately.

Because I trusted him.

Because I believed marriage meant protecting each other.

But today was different.

Today, I was not just his wife.

I was the new CEO of Montalvo Global.

And I had learned something during six years of corporate battles.

People reveal themselves when they think they have power over you.

“I think we should talk here.”

His expression hardened.

“Elena.”

“No.”

The hallway went completely still.

“I spent six years fixing problems in this company while people like Camila believed they could decide who belonged here.”

I looked around at the employees watching.

“This company has a culture problem.”

Nobody moved.

“And it starts with people who believe their title gives them permission to humiliate others.”

Camila’s face turned pale.

“You can’t speak to me like that.”

I turned toward her.

“Actually, I can.”

She laughed nervously.

“You don’t even work here.”

I smiled.

That was the moment.

The exact moment I knew everything was about to change.

I reached into my handbag and removed a small black folder.

The official appointment documents.

The ones scheduled to be announced at 10:00 AM.

I placed them on the nearest table.

Then I looked at Camila.

“Actually, I do.”

She stared at the folder.

“What is that?”

I opened it.

“Effective today, Elena Montalvo assumes the position of Chief Executive Officer of Montalvo Global.”

The color drained from her face.

Around us, whispers exploded.

Alexander closed his eyes briefly.

Because he knew.

He knew exactly what this meant.

Camila wasn’t just disrespectful to an employee.

She had insulted the person who now had authority over every department in the company.

But the watch still bothered me.

Because there was one question I needed answered.

Why would Alexander give his mother’s birthday gift to his secretary?

And more importantly…

Why had Camila worn it into the office on the exact day I became CEO?

Then my phone vibrated.

A message appeared from an unknown number.

I opened it.

And the first sentence made my blood run cold.

“Your husband didn’t accidentally give her that watch.”

The second sentence appeared.

“He wanted you to find it.”

I stared at the screen.

Because suddenly, the watch was no longer evidence of an affair.

It was a warning.

And someone inside Montalvo Global was trying to tell me that my husband’s betrayal was only the beginning.
