/Part 2: The Secret Hidden Behind The House

I stood frozen in the security room, staring at the monitor.

For a few seconds, I forgot how to breathe.

My hand was still gripping the edge of the desk, but my mind had already left the room.

All I could see was Sofia’s frightened expression.

My little girl.

The child who used to run into my arms every morning.

The child who still slept with the stuffed rabbit her mother gave her before she passed away.

And I had allowed someone to make her afraid inside her own home.

“Mr. Vance.”

Hector’s voice pulled me back.

I turned toward him.

His face was pale too.

He had been protecting my family for years. He had seen dangerous situations, threats, and conflicts.

But even he looked disturbed.

“Keep recording,” I said.

My voice sounded unfamiliar.

Cold.

Controlled.

Because if I walked out there in that moment, I knew exactly what would happen.

I would lose control.

And Chloe deserved something worse than anger.

She deserved the truth to come out completely.

On the monitor, Marisol was still standing between Chloe and my daughters.

Her expression remained calm.

But her eyes were different.

For the first time, I saw something I had never noticed before.

Not fear.

Determination.

“Remove your hand from my child,” Chloe said.

Marisol looked directly at her.

“They are not your children.”

The room became silent.

Even Chloe seemed surprised.

“Excuse me?”

Marisol took a slow breath.

“They are Mr. Vance’s daughters. They are under your care only because he trusted you.”

Chloe laughed.

A cold, mocking laugh.

“Trusted me?”

She stepped closer.

“Do you know how long I waited for this?”

My entire body went still.

Marisol noticed too.

“Waited for what?”

Chloe smiled.

“For this house.”

“For this family.”

“For everything that should have been mine from the beginning.”

My stomach tightened.

Hector immediately began typing on his computer.

“Sir, I’m checking her background.”

I didn’t answer.

I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen.

Chloe walked toward the fireplace.

“You people are so predictable.”

She looked at my daughters.

“Your father thinks he can buy happiness with money. He thinks hiring a sweet housekeeper and giving you everything you want makes him a good father.”

Valeria’s face changed.

“Don’t talk about my dad like that.”

It was a small voice.

But it was brave.

Chloe turned around sharply.

“Excuse me?”

Valeria stood up.

Her hands were shaking.

But she stepped closer to Sofia.

“You don’t get to be mean to us when Daddy isn’t here.”

For a second, I felt pride.

My daughter was scared.

But she was still protecting her sister.

Chloe’s expression darkened.

“Your father won’t believe you.”

The words hit me harder than anything else.

Because that was exactly what she believed.

She believed my daughters were powerless.

She believed I would choose her over them.

And she was wrong.

Completely wrong.

Then something happened that made my blood run cold.

Chloe walked to the bookshelf and pulled out a small folder.

A folder I had never seen before.

She opened it.

Inside were photographs.

My daughters.

Taken inside the house.

From different days.

Different moments.

I leaned closer to the screen.

“Zoom in.”

Hector immediately enlarged the image.

My heart dropped.

The pictures were not normal family photos.

They were pictures of my daughters looking sad.

Crying.

Sitting alone.

“Why does she have those?” I whispered.

Hector continued searching.

Then his expression changed.

“Sir…”

“What?”

He hesitated.

“These photos were taken before Chloe moved into the house.”

I turned toward him.

“What did you say?”

He looked at the computer screen.

“She had access to information about your family before you introduced her.”

A terrible feeling spread through me.

Chloe wasn’t just cruel.

She had planned something.

On the monitor, Marisol noticed the folder too.

Her face changed.

“Where did you get those?”

Chloe smiled.

“Finally asking the right question.”

She placed the folder on the table.

“You know, Marisol, you’ve always been the problem.”

My eyes narrowed.

“Why?”

“Because the girls love you.”

Chloe’s voice became bitter.

“They trust you.”

She pointed toward the photographs.

“And as long as you are here, I can never completely replace their mother.”

The security room became silent.

Replace their mother.

Those words echoed in my head.

This wasn’t about discipline.

This wasn’t about household rules.

Chloe had been trying to erase every person who reminded my daughters of their past.

Including Marisol.

Including me.

Then Marisol said something that made Chloe freeze.

“Do you want him to know what happened before the wedding?”

Chloe’s smile disappeared.

A heavy silence filled the room.

I leaned toward the monitor.

Before the wedding?

What was she talking about?

Chloe’s voice became sharper.

“You don’t know what you’re saying.”

Marisol shook her head.

“No.”

“I know exactly what I’m saying.”

Valeria looked confused.

Sofia held onto her sister’s hand.

I watched as Chloe’s confidence slowly disappeared.

For the first time, she looked afraid.

“Marisol,” she whispered.

“Don’t.”

Marisol looked at the girls.

Then at the camera.

Almost as if she knew someone was watching.

“Mr. Vance deserves to know the truth.”

My heart stopped.

She knew.

Somehow…

She knew I was watching.

Then Marisol walked toward the center of the room and said:

“Your fiancée was never interested in becoming their mother.”

“She was interested in becoming the owner of everything you built.”

I stood completely still.

Hector looked at me.

“Sir…”

But I couldn’t answer.

Because at that moment, another notification appeared on the security screen.

A new camera angle.

The backyard entrance.

Someone had just arrived at the estate.

Someone Chloe clearly wasn’t expecting.

The monitor showed a man stepping out of a black vehicle.

And when I saw his face…

I realized this story was much bigger than Chloe.

Because the man standing outside my home was someone who was supposed to be dead.
