PART 2: The Truth Hidden For Thirteen Years

Santiago stood frozen in the middle of the auditorium.

The man who had controlled million-dollar companies, negotiated with powerful people, and never showed weakness in public was now staring at a simple folder as if it weighed more than anything he had ever carried.

Valeria’s face turned pale.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” she asked.

Santiago didn’t answer.

His eyes remained on the competition director.

“Explain.”

The director took a deep breath.

“Mr. Montero, the audit shows that someone attempted to modify the scoring system before the final announcement.”

The entire auditorium began whispering.

The cameras were still recording.

Every reaction was being broadcast live.

Valeria forced a smile.

“This is ridiculous. Someone is trying to frame me.”

The director opened another document.

“The access was made using an account registered under your assistant’s credentials.”

Valeria immediately turned angry.

“My assistant? That proves nothing.”

But Santiago noticed something.

She wasn’t surprised.

She was afraid.

And for the first time, he began questioning the woman he had trusted for thirteen years.

“Valeria…”

His voice was cold.

“Why would your office access the competition system?”

She looked at him.

“You believe her?”

She pointed at me.

“You believe that woman?”

I almost smiled.

Thirteen years ago, she had said almost the same thing.

Back then, Santiago believed every word she said.

Even when I was lying in a hospital bed.

Even when doctors told him my pregnancy was dangerous.

Even when I begged him not to leave.

He chose her.

Now he was finally seeing what I had seen.

A person who always played the victim.

A person who cried whenever someone questioned her.

A person who destroyed others while pretending to be innocent.

The competition director looked at Santiago.

“There is another matter.”

Everyone became silent again.

She opened the red folder.

“This concerns the birth records of Mateo and Daniel Ríos.”

My fingers tightened.

I knew this moment would come.

But I still felt my heart beat faster.

Santiago looked at me.

“What does their birth record have to do with this?”

The director hesitated.

“Because during the investigation, we discovered inconsistencies in the original documents submitted thirteen years ago.”

Santiago frowned.

“What inconsistencies?”

The director looked at him.

“The divorce documents, the hospital records, and the custody agreement were connected to a false medical report.”

The world seemed to stop.

Santiago slowly turned toward me.

I remained silent.

Because this was the part he had never known.

The part I had carried alone for thirteen years.

After he left me, I was not only abandoned.

I was manipulated.

The day he signed the divorce papers, I was unconscious after complications during pregnancy.

Valeria had brought him documents.

She told him doctors believed the babies might not survive.

She told him I was using the pregnancy to keep him trapped.

She told him leaving was the only logical choice.

But there was one thing she never told him.

The babies survived.

Both of them.

Healthy.

Strong.

Beautiful.

And they became the reason I continued living.

Santiago looked at the folder.

“Who created the false report?”

Nobody answered immediately.

Then the director placed another document on the table.

“The report was approved by a private clinic connected to the Solórzano family.”

Santiago’s expression changed.

Valeria stepped back.

“No.”

Her voice was small.

“No, that’s impossible.”

But nobody believed her anymore.

Santiago looked at her.

“You knew?”

She shook her head.

“I didn’t know anything.”

But her reaction was too fast.

Too desperate.

Mateo and Daniel stood beside me, confused.

“Mom…”

Mateo whispered.

“What is happening?”

I looked at my son.

The child who had grown up without a father.

The child who had learned to repair old computers because we couldn’t afford new ones.

The child who never complained when other students showed expensive equipment.

I wanted to protect him.

But the truth had already arrived.

“This man…”

I looked at Santiago.

“Is your father.”

Silence.

Absolute silence.

Daniel looked at Santiago.

Then at me.

“You knew?”

His voice was hurt.

I closed my eyes.

“I wanted to tell you when you were ready.”

Mateo’s expression changed.

“Does he know us?”

That question destroyed Santiago.

Because the answer was obvious.

No.

He didn’t.

He had missed thirteen birthdays.

Thirteen Christmas mornings.

Thirteen first days of school.

Thirteen years of watching them grow.

“I’m sorry.”

Santiago’s voice broke.

For the first time, my children saw the powerful businessman not as a powerful man.

But as someone who had failed them.

Daniel laughed softly.

Not because it was funny.

Because he was disappointed.

“So you are our father?”

Santiago nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

“Where were you?”

The question hit harder than any accusation.

Santiago had no answer.

Because there was no answer good enough.

“I thought…”

He stopped.

“I believed things that were not true.”

Mateo looked away.

“My whole life, everyone told me fathers protect their children.”

Santiago lowered his head.

“I know.”

“No,” Mateo said quietly.

“You don’t.”

Those words made the entire auditorium silent.

Because everyone understood.

A father was not someone who discovered his children after they became successful.

A father was someone who stayed before anyone knew their names.

Behind Santiago, Valeria suddenly stepped forward.

“This is ridiculous.”

Everyone looked at her.

She no longer looked like the elegant wife of a billionaire.

She looked desperate.

“You can’t blame me for everything.”

Santiago stared at her.

“You lied to me.”

“I did what I had to do!”

The words came out before she could stop them.

Everyone froze.

Valeria realized her mistake.

But it was already too late.

Santiago’s face changed.

“What did you just say?”

She tried to recover.

“I mean…”

“No.”

His voice became colder.

“You said you did what you had to do.”

He stepped closer.

“Tell me exactly what you did.”

Valeria remained silent.

And that silence answered everything.

Then her phone suddenly rang.

A message appeared.

Her expression changed immediately.

Fear.

Real fear.

She looked at the screen.

And I knew something was wrong.

Because the person who sent the message was not a stranger.

It was someone from thirteen years ago.

Someone who knew the truth about the night Santiago abandoned me.

Someone who had proof that Valeria had planned everything.

And when Santiago saw the name on her phone…

His entire world collapsed.

Because the message came from the doctor who had signed the false report.

The message contained only one sentence:

“Mr. Montero, I need to tell you the truth. Your divorce was built on a lie.”
