PART 2: THE WOMAN WHO BOUGHT THE COMPANY THAT BETRAYED HER

I looked at the two folders on the hospital bed and felt like I was watching someone else’s life.

On the left was the divorce agreement from Julian Zhou.

Three years of marriage reduced to a few pages.

Two hundred thousand yuan.

A signature line.

A polite request to disappear quietly.

On the right was a document that could change everything.

A purchase proposal prepared by Bennett International Group.

Target company:

Zhou Group.

My husband’s empire.

The company he had spent years building.

The company he thought was untouchable.

The company that had thrown me away like I was worthless.

I stared at Nora.

“You’re saying my grandfather can buy his company?”

Nora remained calm.

“Not just buy it.”

She adjusted her glasses.

“He can acquire enough shares to control the entire board.”

I laughed softly.

Not because it was funny.

Because the situation was too absurd.

Twenty-four hours ago, Julian sent four men to destroy my life.

Now, I had the ability to take away the thing he valued most.

But revenge was not the first thing I felt.

It was disappointment.

I remembered the man I married.

Julian Zhou wasn’t always cruel.

When we first met, he was ambitious but gentle.

He told me he wanted to build something that belonged to him.

I believed him.

When his company struggled, I stayed.

When investors refused to trust him, I stayed.

When his mother became ill, I took care of her.

When he worked until midnight, I waited for him.

I never asked for luxury.

I only wanted to be his partner.

But somewhere along the way, Julian forgot I existed.

He started seeing me as a burden.

A woman who had nothing.

A woman who depended on him.

He forgot that before I became Mrs. Zhou, I was Amelia Bennett.

The granddaughter of Edward Bennett.

A woman whose family name could open doors he had spent his entire life trying to reach.

But I had hidden that identity because I wanted someone to love me for myself.

Not my money.

Not my background.

Not my family’s influence.

And Julian had proven exactly why I made that choice.

The next morning, Kevin Liu arrived at the hospital.

He looked uncomfortable when he saw Nora and the Bennett family’s representatives standing around my room.

“Miss Bennett…”

His voice changed.

No longer cold.

No longer dismissive.

“Mr. Zhou asked me to bring the divorce papers.”

I looked at him.

“Did he say anything else?”

Kevin hesitated.

“He said you should stop creating trouble.”

I almost smiled.

Creating trouble.

That was what Julian called me defending myself.

I picked up the divorce agreement.

“Tell Julian I will sign.”

Kevin looked surprised.

“Really?”

“Yes.”

He relaxed slightly.

Then I added:

“But not his version.”

His expression changed.

“What does that mean?”

I placed the Bennett acquisition proposal on top of the divorce agreement.

“Tell him Amelia Bennett is reviewing the Zhou Group acquisition.”

Kevin froze.

For several seconds, he didn’t speak.

Then his face turned pale.

“You are…”

“Yes.”

I looked directly at him.

“That Amelia Bennett.”

The room became silent.

Kevin had worked beside Julian for years.

He knew exactly what my grandfather’s company represented.

He knew that Zhou Group, despite its success, was nothing compared to Bennett International.

“Mr. Zhou doesn’t know?”

“No.”

Kevin lowered his eyes.

For the first time, I saw regret on his face.

“Miss Bennett… if I had known…”

I interrupted him.

“If you had known, would you have stopped them?”

He couldn’t answer.

Because we both knew the truth.

Money changed the way people treated you.

But it also revealed who they really were.

Three days later, Julian returned from Paris.

The news had already spread.

Julian Zhou and Claire Lawson’s engagement announcement was everywhere.

The articles praised their “perfect alliance.”

Two powerful families joining together.

A business romance.

A future dynasty.

Julian arrived at his office expecting congratulations.

Instead, his assistant rushed toward him.

“Mr. Zhou, something happened.”

Julian frowned.

“What?”

“Bennett International has started purchasing Zhou Group shares.”

He laughed.

“Bennett International?”

Then his smile disappeared.

“Why?”

The assistant hesitated.

“Because the buyer is Amelia Bennett.”

The room went completely silent.

Julian stared at him.

“No.”

His voice was quiet.

“That is impossible.”

The assistant handed him a tablet.

On the screen was my name.

My photograph.

My family information.

For the first time in years, Julian saw the woman he had married.

Not the quiet wife who cooked dinner.

Not the woman who waited for him at home.

Not the person he thought had nothing.

He saw Amelia Bennett.

The heir of Bennett International.

The woman who could destroy everything he built.

Julian immediately called me.

I watched his name appear on my phone.

For three years, I had waited for him to call because he missed me.

Now he called because he needed something.

I answered.

“Hello.”

There was silence.

Then his voice came.

“Amelia.”

It was the first time he said my name like it mattered.

“Can we talk?”

I looked out the hospital window.

The city was below me.

The same city where he once believed he controlled everything.

“About what?”

“About us.”

I almost laughed.

“Julian, there is no us.”

“Amelia, listen to me.”

“No.”

My voice was calm.

“Now you listen.”

He became quiet.

“The woman you abandoned was your wife.”

I paused.

“The woman you are afraid of is your biggest shareholder.”

His breathing became heavier.

“I made a mistake.”

I closed my eyes.

A mistake.

That was the word he chose.

Not betrayal.

Not cruelty.

Not what happened in that parking lot.

A mistake.

“Julian.”

“Yes?”

“The flowers arrived.”

He went silent.

“The ones you sent to the hospital.”

“I wanted to apologize.”

I looked at the empty vase beside my bed.

“The strange thing is…”

I smiled slightly.

“You remembered to send flowers.”

A pause.

“But you forgot to send your wife protection.”

The call went silent.

Then I heard him whisper:

“Amelia…”

I ended the call.

Because for the first time in three years, I didn’t need his explanation.

I already knew the truth.

The following week, the board meeting of Zhou Group was scheduled.

Julian arrived early.

He believed he could still negotiate.

He believed he could convince me.

He believed the woman who loved him was still waiting somewhere inside me.

But when the conference room doors opened, he saw me sitting at the head of the table.

Beside me was Edward Bennett.

My grandfather.

The man whose existence he never knew.

Julian stopped walking.

My grandfather looked at him calmly.

“Mr. Zhou.”

Julian’s face changed.

Because he finally understood something.

He had spent years trying to climb higher.

But the woman he threw away had been standing above him all along.

And the most shocking part was still waiting.

Because before the acquisition was completed, I discovered something about Claire Lawson that even Julian didn’t know.

Something that would make him question everything he thought he had won.
