PART 2: THE PRICE OF BETRAYING THE WOMAN WHO BUILT EVERYTHING

Sebastián stared at the audit report for almost a minute.

For the first time since he entered the apartment with Camila, he looked afraid.

Not angry.

Not arrogant.

Afraid.

Because he finally understood something.

The woman standing in front of him was not the wife he thought he could control.

She was the person who had quietly protected everything he built.

And now she was the person who could take it all away.

“Elena.”

His voice changed.

The cold confidence disappeared.

“Where did you get this?”

I looked at him.

“From the same place you got your success.”

His expression hardened.

“What does that mean?”

I walked toward the table and placed another document beside the audit report.

“Three years ago, when your company almost collapsed, who negotiated with the investors?”

Silence.

“Who stayed awake for weeks reviewing contracts?”

Silence.

“Who found the financial loopholes that saved your company from bankruptcy?”

Sebastián looked away.

Because he knew the answer.

Me.

But he had spent years convincing everyone that his success was only because of his own ability.

Camila looked between us.

“Sebastián, what is she talking about?”

He didn’t answer.

That was when I smiled.

The first real smile I had shown that day.

“Did he never tell you?”

Camila frowned.

“Tell me what?”

“That Torres Group was almost sold five years ago.”

Her face changed.

“He told me he built everything himself.”

“He did.”

I nodded.

“With my work.”

The room became silent.

I opened another folder.

Inside were copies of emails, contracts, and financial records.

“Every major deal from the last five years.”

I placed them on the table.

“My analysis.”

“My negotiations.”

“My strategies.”

Sebastián clenched his fists.

“Stop.”

I looked at him.

“Why?”

“Because you are making this personal.”

I almost laughed.

Personal?

He brought another woman into our bedroom.

He asked me to cook for her pregnancy.

He turned our marriage into a service agreement.

But now my evidence was personal?

“No, Sebastián.”

My voice was calm.

“This stopped being personal the moment you used my sacrifice to build a life where I no longer had a place.”

Camila stepped closer.

“You are just angry because he chose me.”

I looked at her.

For a moment, I felt something unexpected.

Not hatred.

Not jealousy.

Nothing.

Because I realized she was fighting for something I had already abandoned.

A man who had shown me exactly who he was.

“You think you won.”

I shook my head.

“But you didn’t.”

She laughed.

“Why? Because you own the apartment?”

“No.”

I looked at the audit report.

“Because you never knew what you were getting.”

Her smile disappeared.

The building manager and guards had already left.

Only the three of us remained.

Sebastián picked up the report.

“These numbers are wrong.”

“Then explain them.”

He opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

Because there was no explanation.

The money transfers.

The hidden accounts.

The fake supplier contracts.

Everything was there.

And one detail was especially clear.

Camila’s name appeared repeatedly.

Her company had received millions through suspicious agreements.

She looked at the papers.

Then at Sebastián.

“Why is my name here?”

He looked uncomfortable.

“Camila, listen…”

“No.”

Her voice trembled.

“You told me everything was under control.”

“It is.”

“Is it?”

She pointed at the report.

“You said you were leaving your wife because you loved me.”

Sebastián became silent.

“And now I find out your company is in trouble because of her?”

I watched them argue.

And strangely, I felt nothing.

Because this was not my battle anymore.

They had chosen each other.

They could face the consequences together.

The next morning, the news spread.

Torres Group’s financial investigation became the biggest business story of the month.

The same people who once praised Sebastián started asking questions.

Investors demanded explanations.

The board requested emergency meetings.

And the man who believed he had replaced me discovered something cruel.

A company could survive losing an employee.

But it could not survive losing the person who understood every part of it.

Three days later, Sebastián came to my office.

He looked completely different.

No expensive suit.

No confident smile.

Just a tired man carrying regret.

“Elena.”

I didn’t look up from my documents.

“What do you want?”

“I want to talk.”

“We talked.”

“No.”

He stepped closer.

“We never talked.”

I finally looked at him.

“You are right.”

His eyes showed hope.

“We never talked.”

I closed the folder.

“You made decisions.”

“You replaced me.”

“You hurt me.”

“But you never once asked how I felt.”

His face fell.

“Elena, I made mistakes.”

Again.

That word.

Mistakes.

As if destroying years of marriage could be corrected with one sentence.

“I loved you.”

He swallowed.

“I know.”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“You loved what I did for you.”

Silence.

“You loved the wife who solved problems.”

“The wife who supported your dreams.”

“The wife who stayed quiet.”

I stood up.

“But you never respected the woman behind all of that.”

His eyes turned red.

“I regret it.”

I believed him.

Maybe he really did regret it.

But regret was not the same as change.

And it was not enough.

“I hope one day you understand what you lost.”

I walked past him.

“But I won’t be there when you do.”

As I reached the door, my phone rang.

It was Uncle Robert.

I answered.

“Elena.”

“Yes?”

“The board of Torres Group wants to meet with you.”

I stopped.

“Why?”

A pause.

Then he said:

“Because they discovered something.”

“What?”

“The person who secretly owns the largest private investment share in Torres Group…”

I looked back at Sebastián.

“…is you.”

My hand tightened around the phone.

Because there was one thing even Sebastián didn’t know.

The company he thought he built had never truly belonged to him.

Years ago, when I saved it from collapse, my mother had transferred a hidden percentage of shares into my name.

A protection she created before she died.

And now…

The woman he tried to turn into his maid was the person who held the final decision over his entire empire.
