Part 2: The Daughter Who Returned to Take Back What Was Hers

I thought discovering my father had a secret daughter was the hardest truth I would ever have to face.

I was wrong.

The hardest truth was realizing that while I was building a future far away, the people closest to me had already started replacing me inside my own family.

My mother sat silently at the dining table, staring at the divorce papers I had placed in front of her.

Her fingers trembled as she touched the corner of the documents.

“Claire… are you sure about this?”

I looked at the woman who had spent her entire life protecting our family.

The woman who gave up business meetings, social events, and personal dreams because she believed her marriage was stronger than anything else.

“I am sure about one thing,” I said quietly. “You deserve to know the truth.”

My mother lowered her eyes.

“Your father and I have had problems for years.”

Her voice cracked.

“I knew he was distant. I knew he spent more time at the office than at home. But I never imagined…”

She stopped.

She didn’t need to finish the sentence.

I understood.

Neither of us imagined that another woman had slowly walked into our lives and taken a position that was never hers.

I placed the broken emerald necklace on the table.

My mother’s face immediately changed.

She recognized it.

That necklace wasn’t just jewelry.

It was the necklace my father promised to give her on their twentieth wedding anniversary.

She had searched for years for that exact emerald because it reminded her of the first vacation they took together.

My father told her it was lost during shipping.

She believed him.

Until now.

“Rebecca was wearing this?” my mother whispered.

I nodded.

For several seconds, the room was completely silent.

Then my mother’s expression changed.

Not into anger.

Into disappointment.

The kind of disappointment that comes when someone finally stops making excuses for the person they love.

“I need to see your father.”

I didn’t stop her.

Because this time, my mother wasn’t the woman waiting at home.

She was the woman who finally wanted answers.

The next morning, we arrived at Morgan Group headquarters together.

The same building where employees had called Isabella “Princess Morgan.”

The moment we entered the lobby, conversations stopped.

Everyone recognized my mother.

She had built half of this company alongside my father.

But the reactions were different now.

People looked nervous.

They knew something had changed.

My father was in a meeting when his assistant informed him.

“Mr. Morgan, your wife and daughter are here.”

A long pause followed.

Then his voice came through the phone.

“Send them in.”

When we entered his office, Richard Morgan stood behind his desk.

For a moment, he looked exactly like the father I remembered.

The man who carried me on his shoulders when I was little.

The man who promised me that nobody would ever take my place.

But that image disappeared quickly.

Because standing beside him was Rebecca Lane.

And behind her was Isabella.

My father looked at me.

“Claire.”

I smiled slightly.

“Hello, Dad.”

His eyes moved toward my mother.

“What is this about?”

My mother placed the divorce papers on his desk.

His expression changed immediately.

“What are you doing?”

She didn’t answer.

I did.

“We know everything.”

Rebecca’s face turned pale.

Isabella crossed her arms.

“I don’t understand why everyone is acting like this is some huge crime.”

I looked at her.

“You pretended to be the president’s daughter.”

She rolled her eyes.

“My mother worked here for years. My father trusted her.”

I interrupted.

“Your father?”

The room became silent.

Isabella looked at my father.

That small movement told me everything.

My father closed his eyes.

Only for a second.

But it was enough.

My mother saw it too.

“Richard.”

Her voice was cold.

“Tell me.”

My father didn’t speak.

Rebecca stepped forward.

“Mr. Morgan was going to explain everything.”

I laughed.

Not because it was funny.

Because I couldn’t believe how easily they were still trying to control the situation.

“Explain what?”

I looked at my father.

“That you planned to introduce another woman’s daughter as your successor?”

My father’s jaw tightened.

“Claire, you don’t understand the business world.”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“I understand perfectly.”

I walked toward his desk.

“I understand that while I was studying abroad, you told me I didn’t need to work because I could live like a princess.”

I looked at Isabella.

“But apparently you needed to find another princess.”

Isabella’s confidence disappeared.

My father became defensive.

“She is talented.”

“So am I.”

“She has been involved with the company for years.”

“And I am your daughter.”

The words filled the room.

Nobody spoke.

Because for the first time, my father had no answer.

Then Rebecca suddenly changed her expression.

The helpless mother disappeared.

A colder version appeared.

“Claire, before you accuse everyone, maybe you should ask your father what happened before you were born.”

My eyes narrowed.

“What does that mean?”

Rebecca looked at my father.

He immediately said:

“Enough.”

But it was too late.

My mother stood frozen.

“What is she talking about?”

Rebecca smiled faintly.

“I think it’s time everyone knows the whole story.”

My father stepped forward.

“Rebecca, leave.”

“No.”

Her voice was stronger now.

“You promised me that Isabella would inherit everything.”

My heart stopped.

Everything.

Not just the company.

Everything.

My mother looked at my father.

“Richard… what did you promise her?”

My father didn’t answer.

And that silence revealed more than words ever could.

I opened my phone and sent a message to our family lawyer.

“Start the company investigation.”

Then I looked at my father.

“I came back wanting to surprise you.”

I smiled sadly.

“I wanted to prove that your daughter could stand on her own.”

I picked up the documents from the desk.

“But now I realize something.”

My father looked at me.

“What?”

I walked toward the door.

“You weren’t preparing someone else to inherit my company.”

I stopped.

“You were preparing to erase me.”

As I left the office, I heard Isabella whisper behind me.

“Mom… what are we going to do?”

Rebecca didn’t answer.

Because for the first time, they understood something.

They had spent years building a fake princess.

But they had forgotten one important thing.

The real heir had finally returned.

And she was no longer the little girl waiting for her father’s approval.
