Part 2: The Day Adrian Realized I Was No Longer His Wife

When I opened my eyes, the first thing I heard was the sound of the heart monitor.

A slow, regular beep.

A sound that reminded me I was still alive.

But everything I had loved seemed to have disappeared overnight.

My mother was gone.

My baby was gone.

The man I married was no longer the person I believed he was.

And the woman I trusted most had betrayed me in the cruelest way possible.

I stared at the ceiling for a long time.

The nurses came and went.

They asked me questions.

They checked my condition.

But I barely responded.

Because my mind kept returning to one sentence.

“Are you done acting proud?”

Adrian’s message.

After everything that happened, that was the only thing he cared about.

Not where I was.

Not why I disappeared.

Not whether I was okay.

Only whether I had accepted his humiliation.

I slowly reached for my phone.

There were dozens of missed calls.

Most of them from Adrian.

For a moment, my heart moved.

Three years of love cannot disappear in one night.

A part of me still hoped there was an explanation.

Maybe he regretted it.

Maybe he didn’t know about my mother.

Maybe he didn’t know about the pregnancy.

Maybe he would come running if he knew.

Then I remembered his face.

The cold smile.

The way he showed me Selena’s necklace.

The way he looked at me like I was an object being evaluated.

That small hope disappeared.

I opened his chat.

My fingers moved slowly.

“I was pregnant.”

I typed those words.

Then I stopped.

I looked at them for several seconds.

And deleted them.

Why should I tell him?

Why should I give him the chance to mourn a child he never cared enough to know existed?

I closed my phone.

Then I called the lawyer.

“Hello, I want to begin the divorce process.”

The other side was silent.

“Mrs. Fu, are you sure?”

I looked at the wedding ring on my finger.

The ring Adrian placed there only hours ago.

The same hands that held mine while promising forever had also prepared a test to destroy my dignity.

“Yes.”

My voice was calm.

“I have never been more sure of anything.”

Three days later, Adrian finally came to the hospital.

I was not surprised.

I knew he would come eventually.

Not because he loved me.

But because he wanted to win.

He entered my room wearing an expensive suit.

The same confident expression he always had.

“You’re awake.”

I looked at him.

“Yes.”

He sat down beside the bed.

“You disappeared without explaining anything.”

I almost laughed.

Without explaining?

The man who hid his wealth.

The man who lied about bankruptcy.

The man who turned our marriage into an experiment.

He wanted an explanation from me.

“You didn’t answer my messages,” he continued.

“I thought you were still angry about Selena.”

I looked at him quietly.

“Still?”

His expression changed slightly.

“She was just part of the test.”

I stared at him.

“Do you hear yourself?”

He frowned.

“You misunderstood.”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“For the first time, I understand everything.”

Adrian leaned forward.

“I wanted to know if you loved me.”

I smiled.

A tired smile.

“You didn’t want to know if I loved you.”

“You wanted to prove I didn’t deserve you.”

He opened his mouth.

But no words came out.

Because it was true.

For three years, I had given him everything.

My time.

My savings.

My future.

When he said his company was struggling, I didn’t leave.

When he said he had nothing, I stood beside him.

When he needed support, I became his strongest supporter.

But when I needed him…

He created a trap.

“I lost my mother that night.”

My voice became quiet.

Adrian froze.

“What?”

I looked away.

“She died while I was at our wedding.”

His face changed.

For the first time, I saw fear.

Real fear.

“I didn’t know.”

“No.”

I nodded.

“You didn’t.”

Silence filled the room.

Then I added:

“I was also pregnant.”

Adrian stopped breathing.

“What did you say?”

I looked directly at him.

“Our child was gone before you even knew there was one.”

His face turned pale.

“No…”

A broken sound came from him.

“No, that isn’t possible.”

I said nothing.

Because there was nothing left to say.

The man who spent months testing whether I loved his money had never once tested whether he was capable of losing me.

And now he finally understood.

But understanding came too late.

His phone suddenly rang.

The name on the screen appeared.

Selena.

He looked at it.

Then at me.

I almost felt sorry for him.

Almost.

He answered.

Before he could speak, Selena’s excited voice came through.

“Adrian, are you coming tonight? The yacht is ready!”

Silence.

She didn’t realize I was there.

“You won the bet,” she continued happily.

“He finally believed she was a gold digger. I told you she would beg after seeing the money.”

Adrian’s face became completely frozen.

I watched the realization slowly appear in his eyes.

This was not a test anymore.

This was evidence.

The woman he used to prove I was greedy had just revealed everything.

Selena continued laughing.

“By the way, don’t forget my necklace. Five million wasn’t cheap.”

Adrian slowly lowered the phone.

He looked at me.

But I was no longer the woman waiting for his explanation.

I was the woman who had already moved on.

“I’ll send the divorce papers.”

I removed the wedding ring.

Placed it on the table.

And pushed it toward him.

“Keep the ring.”

His voice was trembling.

“Please…”

That was the first time I heard him say that word.

Please.

But I no longer needed it.

“Adrian.”

I stood up slowly.

“The woman who loved you would have forgiven everything.”

I looked at him one last time.

“But she died that night too.”

I walked out of the room.

Behind me, I heard something fall.

Maybe the ring.

Maybe his pride.

Maybe the illusion that he was still in control.

Months later, everyone heard what happened.

The truth about the fake bankruptcy.

The money spent on Selena.

The cruel bet.

The marriage that ended before it truly began.

But I never looked back.

I returned to the life I had abandoned while trying to save someone who never tried to save me.

And the most painful lesson I learned was this:

Sometimes the person you would sacrifice everything for…

is the same person who teaches you to stop sacrificing yourself.
