PART 2: THE PRICE OF THE LIE

I stood outside the villa for a long time.

The music inside continued.

People laughed.

Glasses clinked.

Everyone was celebrating a perfect engagement.

Only I knew that behind that perfect picture was the truth I had spent years refusing to see.

Jason Jiang was never the poor man who counted every coin with me.

He was never the man who apologized because he couldn’t give me a better life.

He was a man who had everything.

And he chose to let me suffer.

Not because he had no choice.

Because he wanted to.

I left the villa before anyone noticed me.

The night air was colder than before.

But strangely, I didn’t feel cold.

My heart had already frozen.

When I returned to the apartment, Jason was still awake.

He stood up immediately when he saw me.

—Where did you go?

I looked at him.

The same face.

The same voice.

The same man who had held my hand on countless difficult nights.

But now I knew.

I had never truly known him.

—I went to find the truth.

His expression changed slightly.

Only for a second.

But I saw it.

Fear.

—What are you talking about?

I put my phone on the table.

The screen showed the engagement announcement.

Jason’s face.

Evelyn Song’s face.

The words beneath them.

Jason stopped breathing.

For several seconds, neither of us spoke.

Then he slowly sat down.

—You followed me.

It wasn’t a question.

I laughed softly.

—That’s what you care about?

His fingers tightened.

—Maya…

—No.

I shook my head.

—Don’t call me that.

The same way he used to say my name when he wanted me to forgive him.

I didn’t want to hear it anymore.

—Tell me one thing.

I looked directly at him.

—Was everything fake?

His face became painful.

—No.

The answer came too quickly.

—The time we spent together was real.

I smiled.

—Then why did you let me believe we were poor?

Silence.

—Why did you watch me eat frozen chicken thighs while you gave another woman a watch worth millions?

His eyes lowered.

—You don’t understand.

That sentence hurt.

Because it was the same excuse people always used when they knew they couldn’t justify themselves.

—Then explain it.

Jason remained quiet for a long time.

Finally, he spoke.

—My family wanted me to marry Evelyn.

I laughed.

—So?

—If I told you who I was, I didn’t know if you would stay because of me or because of my money.

I stared at him.

—So you decided to test me?

His silence was enough.

My hands trembled.

Not because I was surprised.

Because I was disappointed.

—You watched me suffer.

—You watched me believe we couldn’t afford a child.

—You watched me give up our baby.

His face turned pale.

—Maya, I never wanted that.

—But you allowed it.

He couldn’t answer.

Because he knew.

That was the truth.

The worst part wasn’t that Jason had money.

The worst part was that he had the power to protect me.

And he chose not to.

—The abortion wasn’t because we were poor.

My voice broke slightly.

—It was because you already planned a future without me.

Jason stood up.

—No.

For the first time, he looked desperate.

—I never planned to abandon you.

I looked at him.

—Then why did you get engaged?

His mouth opened.

But no words came out.

Because there was no explanation that could repair everything.

Three days later, Jason came to my workplace.

I was organizing documents when he appeared.

Everyone around became quiet.

A man like him entering a small office was impossible to ignore.

He placed a folder on the table.

—The engagement is canceled.

I didn’t look up.

—Congratulations.

He froze.

—Maya.

—What do you want me to say?

My voice remained calm.

—That I’m happy?

—That I forgive you?

He looked hurt.

—I’m trying to fix this.

I finally looked at him.

—You can’t fix something you destroyed on purpose.

His eyes became red.

—Do you really think I didn’t love you?

I was silent.

Then I answered:

—I think you loved me.

His expression softened.

But my next words destroyed that hope.

—Just not enough to choose me.

The room became silent.

Jason lowered his head.

For the first time, the proud heir of the Jiang family looked powerless.

Then his phone rang.

He glanced at the screen.

His father’s name.

He almost ignored it.

But then a message appeared.

His expression changed.

I noticed.

—What happened?

He looked at me.

And for the first time, I saw real fear.

—My father knew.

I frowned.

—Knew what?

Jason slowly turned the phone toward me.

The message was short.

“Come home immediately. We need to discuss the child you abandoned.”

My heartbeat stopped.

Child?

I looked at him.

—What does that mean?

Jason’s face went completely pale.

Because there was one thing neither of us knew.

The night I thought I lost everything…

Was not the end of the story.

And the secret hidden by the Jiang family…

Was about to change everything.
