PART 2: The Woman Who Owned The Empire

When Daniel Fu’s plane landed in the Maldives, he still believed everything was under control.

He believed Clara Song was only a small misunderstanding.

He believed I was angry.

He believed, like every other time, that after a few days of silence I would return.

Because that was the pattern of our marriage.

I was always the one who returned.

The one who compromised.

The one who understood.

But he forgot one important thing.

A person can forgive many times.

But there is always a final time.

At eight in the morning, Daniel entered the Fu Group headquarters.

The atmosphere was completely different from usual.

No assistants smiling.

No executives waiting outside his office.

No congratulations about the successful anniversary trip.

Only worried faces.

His secretary immediately approached.

—President Fu.

He looked impatient.

—What happened?

She hesitated.

—The finance department needs you immediately.

Daniel frowned.

—Tell them I’ll handle it later.

—They said it cannot wait.

He walked into the conference room.

The executives were already there.

On the screen were three frozen projects.

Three projects that represented almost half of Fu Group’s future expansion.

Daniel looked confused.

—Explain.

The financial director stood up.

—The capital guarantees have been withdrawn.

Silence.

—By whom?

The director lowered his eyes.

—By Mrs. Shen.

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Because everyone in the room knew who Mrs. Shen was.

Not just Daniel Fu’s wife.

The person who had quietly supported the company since the beginning.

The person whose investment allowed Fu Group to survive its most difficult period.

The person Daniel had always introduced as someone who “preferred to stay away from business.”

How convenient.

He had forgotten that the reason he could stand proudly in front of everyone…

was because someone had been holding the foundation beneath him.

Daniel called me seventeen times that day.

I didn’t answer once.

The first message said:

“Zoe, we need to talk.”

The second:

“Don’t make this bigger than it is.”

The third:

“Clara was only a guest.”

I looked at the screen.

Then I laughed.

Only a guest.

A guest sitting in my seat.

Wearing my scarf.

On my plane.

On our anniversary.

A guest who was introduced with a smile while I was treated like an inconvenience.

I turned off the phone.

Three days later, Daniel came to my office.

Not the Fu Group office.

Mine.

Because after leaving the Fu family mansion, I returned to the place everyone had forgotten existed.

Shen Capital.

The company my grandfather created.

The company I had inherited.

The company I had hidden my involvement in because I wanted to know whether Daniel loved me…

or the power attached to my name.

Now I had my answer.

Daniel entered my office.

For the first time in years, he looked uncertain.

—Zoe.

I continued signing documents.

—President Fu.

His expression changed.

I had never called him that.

Not once.

—Are you serious?

I looked up.

—You seem surprised.

—You’re my wife.

I smiled faintly.

—Was I?

He froze.

Because he knew exactly what I meant.

—Clara was nothing.

He said it quickly.

Almost desperately.

I leaned back.

—Nothing?

—Yes.

—Then why was she on my jet?

Silence.

—Why was she wearing my scarf?

Another silence.

—Why did you allow her to call you “Brother Han” in front of everyone?

His jaw tightened.

—It wasn’t what you think.

I nodded.

That sentence.

The favorite sentence of people who never wanted to explain.

—Daniel.

I looked directly at him.

—The problem was never Clara.

He remained silent.

—The problem was that you believed I would always accept being disrespected.

A week later, Clara Song appeared publicly.

She posted an apology.

She claimed there had been a misunderstanding.

She said she respected my marriage.

Nobody believed it.

Because by then, everyone had learned the truth.

The private jet.

The anniversary.

The photos.

The relationship she thought was a secret.

Everything had become evidence of one thing.

Daniel Fu had underestimated the wrong woman.

My divorce request arrived at the Fu family residence.

Daniel’s father called me immediately.

—Zoe, think carefully.

I listened quietly.

—The Fu and Shen families have been connected for years.

I smiled.

There it was again.

Business.

Reputation.

Family interests.

Everything except my feelings.

—Uncle Fu.

I spoke calmly.

—When your son invited another woman onto my plane on our anniversary, did you think about the connection between our families?

Silence.

I continued:

—When I left my ring on the table, I wasn’t ending a marriage.

A pause.

—I was ending the humiliation.

The divorce was finalized three months later.

Daniel lost the position he had protected so carefully.

Not because I destroyed him.

Because once my support disappeared, everyone finally saw what remained.

A man who had confused borrowed power with his own ability.

One year later, I attended a business conference.

The same kind of event where Daniel once stood proudly beside me.

Only this time…

I stood alone.

And everyone knew my name.

Not as Daniel Fu’s wife.

As Zoe Shen.

The person behind Shen Capital’s expansion.

The woman who had quietly built an empire while everyone underestimated her.

After the event ended, Daniel waited outside.

He looked older.

Tired.

—Do you hate me?

I looked at him.

And realized something.

I didn’t.

Hate required caring.

And I had already moved beyond that.

—No.

He looked surprised.

—Then what do you feel?

I thought for a moment.

Then answered:

—Nothing.

That hurt him more than anger would have.

Because anger meant there was still something left.

As I walked away, I remembered the night I left my ring on the table.

I thought I was losing my marriage.

I was wrong.

I was losing the illusion that I needed someone else to prove my worth.

Daniel Fu thought he was taking another woman on my private jet.

He didn’t realize something.

The plane was never the most valuable thing I owned.

The empire was.

And the woman he left behind…

was the person who built it.
