PART 2: The Woman Julian Zhou Never Knew

I looked at the two folders in front of me.

On one side was the divorce agreement.

Two hundred thousand yuan.

Three years of marriage reduced to a number.

On the other side was the acquisition proposal.

Zhou Group.

The company Julian believed would make him untouchable.

I touched the document with my fingers.

A few days ago, I was lying in a hospital bed, unable to open my eye, listening to people tell me I was worthless.

Now, the same people who underestimated me were about to discover the truth.

I looked at Nora.

“How much of Zhou Group can we acquire?”

She smiled slightly.

“With your current assets and Mr. Bennett’s authorization…”

She paused.

“All of it.”

For a moment, the room was silent.

I remembered Julian’s expression.

The coldness in his eyes.

The way he sent flowers after sending men to hurt me.

The way he believed two hundred thousand yuan was enough to erase three years of my life.

“Prepare everything.”

Nora nodded.

“One more thing.”

“What?”

“Your grandfather wants to meet you.”

I looked down.

For years, I thought I had no family left.

My mother never told me about the Bennett family.

She only told me to stay away from that world.

But now I understood.

She wasn’t abandoning me.

She was protecting me.

The next morning, Julian returned from Paris.

He arrived at the Zhou Group headquarters expecting congratulations.

The engagement announcement with Claire was scheduled for that afternoon.

The media was already waiting.

He walked into the executive office with confidence.

Until his assistant rushed inside.

“Mr. Zhou.”

“Something happened.”

Julian frowned.

“What?”

“The board received a notice.”

“What notice?”

The assistant handed him the document.

Julian read the first page.

Then the second.

His face changed.

“No.”

The assistant lowered his voice.

“Bennett International has begun the acquisition process.”

The room became silent.

Claire, who was sitting beside him, looked confused.

“Bennett International?”

Julian ignored her.

“Who authorized this?”

The assistant hesitated.

“Amelia Bennett.”

The name hit him like a shock.

For several seconds, he didn’t move.

Then he laughed.

A short, disbelieving laugh.

“Impossible.”

“Amelia?”

“That Amelia?”

The assistant nodded.

“Yes.”

Julian grabbed the document.

“Find her.”

“I want to speak with her immediately.”

But it was already too late.

Because that afternoon, I entered the Zhou Group building.

Not as Julian’s wife.

Not as the woman he abandoned.

As the representative of Bennett International.

The employees watched me walk through the lobby.

Some recognized me.

Others didn’t.

But everyone became silent when the announcement appeared on the main screen.

“Extraordinary shareholder meeting.”

“New controlling shareholder: Amelia Bennett.”

When I entered the conference room, Julian was already there.

He looked exhausted.

Not powerful.

Not untouchable.

Just a man who had finally realized he never knew the person beside him.

“Amelia.”

I sat down.

“Mr. Zhou.”

The way I addressed him made his expression change.

“You don’t have to do this.”

I looked at him calmly.

“Do what?”

“Destroy everything.”

I almost smiled.

“Julian.”

“Four men broke my ribs.”

“You sent flowers.”

“Your assistant offered me two hundred thousand yuan.”

“And now you are asking me not to destroy your company?”

His face became pale.

“I never wanted you seriously hurt.”

I looked at him.

“That doesn’t make you innocent.”

Silence.

Claire stepped forward.

“Amelia, this is unnecessary.”

I turned toward her.

The woman who had stood beside my husband while he humiliated me.

“You are right.”

She seemed surprised.

“It is unnecessary.”

“That is why I am not here because of you.”

“I am here because of him.”

I looked back at Julian.

“People like you always think power belongs to the person holding the company.”

“You forgot something.”

“Companies are built by people.”

“And people can lose everything when they choose the wrong person to hurt.”

The board members remained silent.

Because they knew.

The situation had changed.

The woman Julian discarded was now the person who controlled his future.

After the meeting, Julian followed me outside.

“Amelia.”

I stopped.

For the first time, his voice sounded desperate.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

I looked at him.

“Tell you what?”

“That you were Bennett’s granddaughter.”

I smiled sadly.

“Would it have changed anything?”

He couldn’t answer.

Because we both knew.

If I had been rich from the beginning, he would have treated me differently.

And that was exactly why I never told him.

I wanted to know if he loved Amelia.

Not the Bennett name.

Not the inheritance.

Not the power.

Only me.

But he failed.

“I loved you.”

His voice was low.

I looked at him.

“No.”

“You loved the version of me that needed you.”

“And when you thought I had nothing…”

“You stopped respecting me.”

Julian lowered his head.

I walked away.

The divorce was finalized one month later.

Claire disappeared from the headlines.

Zhou Group became part of Bennett International.

But I never celebrated his downfall.

Because revenge was not what I wanted.

Freedom was.

Years later, people asked me about Julian Zhou.

They asked if I regretted hiding my identity.

I always gave the same answer.

“No.”

“Because if he had known who I was…”

“I would never have known who he really was.”

The woman who left the hospital with broken ribs had nothing in her hands.

But she carried something Julian could never take away.

Her dignity.

And when she finally returned to the world…

everyone discovered that the woman they thought was powerless had always been the one holding the real power.
