PART 2: The Wife Who Became the Owner of His Empire

For the next twenty-four hours, Adrian Gu believed I was bluffing.

He always had.

For six years, he believed he understood me completely.

He thought I was the woman who would endure anything for love.

The woman who would lower her head.

The woman who would choose sacrifice instead of confrontation.

He was wrong.

The woman he knew disappeared the moment I heard him say that our child’s life was not worth saving.

The first thing I did after the lawyer ended the call was open the sealed letter my grandfather had left me.

I had kept it for years.

Not because I didn’t care.

Because I never wanted to use my connection to the Gu family.

I married Adrian because I loved him.

Not because of his name.

Not because of his money.

The envelope was old.

Inside was a handwritten letter.

“Natalia.”

“If you are reading this, then Adrian has already fulfilled or failed the promise made between our families.”

“Remember this.”

“A marriage built on honesty can overcome poverty.”

“But a marriage built on deception will eventually destroy everything.”

My fingers trembled.

At the bottom was my grandfather’s signature.

And another document.

The final inheritance agreement.

I read every line carefully.

The condition was simple.

Adrian had to marry the descendant of the woman who once saved his grandfather’s life.

But there was another condition.

The marriage had to be based on mutual trust.

If Adrian deliberately concealed his identity and used deception to test his wife’s feelings…

the inheritance would be reconsidered.

I laughed quietly.

After all these years, my grandfather had seen through him.

He knew power could change a person.

That wealth could make someone suspicious of every kindness.

That someone might confuse love with a test.

I closed the document.

Then I called my lawyer.

—Prepare the divorce petition.

—And prepare the transfer documents.

The lawyer hesitated.

—Mrs. Xu, are you certain?

I looked at the hospital room.

At the tiny image of my child on the screen.

—Yes.

—But not because I want his company.

—Because I no longer want to spend another day proving that I deserve respect.

That evening, the news spread quietly inside the Gu Group.

The president’s wife had requested an emergency review of the inheritance agreement.

Nobody knew why.

Nobody knew that the quiet woman who had lived in a small apartment for six years…

was the person who could decide the future of the entire Gu empire.

Meanwhile, Adrian finally came to the hospital.

Not with anger.

Not with arrogance.

For the first time, he looked afraid.

He stood outside my room for several seconds before entering.

I didn’t look at him.

The man in front of me looked exactly the same.

Same face.

Same voice.

But I no longer recognized him.

—Natalia.

I continued reading the medical report.

—The money has been transferred.

I looked up.

—Too late.

His expression changed.

—What do you mean?

—You thought this was about money.

Silence.

—You thought I would be grateful because you finally decided to save your own child.

Adrian’s jaw tightened.

—You misunderstood what I said.

I smiled.

A tired smile.

—No.

—I understood perfectly.

He stepped closer.

—Natalia, I was angry. I suspected—

—You suspected me for six years.

My voice remained calm.

—You watched me struggle.

—You watched me choose cheaper food.

—You watched me refuse new clothes.

—You watched me worry about every medical bill.

I paused.

—And every day you could have ended that.

He lowered his head.

For the first time, he had no answer.

—I thought everyone wanted something from me.

His voice became quieter.

—After my grandfather died, everyone treated me differently.

I looked at him.

—So you decided to punish the person who never asked you for anything?

That sentence hurt him.

Because it was true.

Adrian sat down.

The pride disappeared from his face.

—When I met you, I thought it was suspicious.

—The timing.

—The marriage condition.

—Everything.

I nodded.

—And instead of asking me…

—you tested me.

He closed his eyes.

—Yes.

The honesty came too late.

Very late.

—Do you know what hurts the most?

I touched my stomach.

—Not that you are rich.

—Not that you hid your identity.

—It is that you looked at the woman who stayed beside you for six years and saw an enemy.

Adrian’s eyes turned red.

—I’m sorry.

I looked away.

Those words used to be enough.

Not anymore.

The next morning, the Gu Group board meeting began.

Adrian entered expecting to control the situation.

Until the lawyer appeared.

—Before discussing today’s agenda, there is a matter regarding the inheritance agreement of Mr. Gu’s family.

The room became silent.

The lawyer placed documents on the table.

—According to the agreement, Mr. Adrian Gu failed to disclose his identity to his spouse.

—Furthermore, evidence shows that his wife suffered financial and emotional harm due to this deception.

Adrian stood.

—This is a family matter.

The lawyer shook his head.

—No, Mr. Gu.

—This concerns the ownership rights of the Gu Group.

The doors opened.

I walked in.

Not wearing expensive clothes.

Not surrounded by bodyguards.

Just myself.

The same woman who had entered that marriage six years earlier.

But this time, nobody looked down on me.

Everyone stood.

—Mrs. Xu.

Adrian stared at me.

For the first time, he understood.

The woman he thought was powerless…

had always been the person holding the future of his empire.

I placed the documents on the table.

—Adrian.

He looked at me.

—The divorce will continue.

His face changed.

—Natalia…

I interrupted him.

—But the child will receive everything he deserves.

A long silence followed.

Then I added:

—Unlike his father, I will never make him beg for love.

Adrian lowered his eyes.

And in that moment, he finally lost the thing he had spent six years taking for granted.

Not his company.

Not his money.

Me.

The woman who once loved him enough to accept a life of poverty…

was now the woman powerful enough to walk away from his entire world.
