PART 2: THE CHILD WHO BROUGHT BACK THE TRUTH

The little boy’s voice echoed through the Chu family’s hall.

“Mom!”

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Everyone looked at the child hugging my legs.

Especially Co Thanh.

His face lost all color.

His lips moved slightly, but no sound came out.

I lowered my head and gently touched the boy’s hair.

“Little one, why did you come here?”

The child smiled innocently.

“Dad brought me.”

“Dad said he missed Mom.”

A silence heavier than anything I had ever felt fell over the room.

Chu Diem’s fingers tightened around her dress.

Chu Kien Quoc stared at me.

“What… what did he call you?”

I looked up calmly.

“My son called me Mom.”

“No.”

Co Thanh finally spoke.

His voice was hoarse.

“That’s impossible.”

I looked at him.

Five years ago, that voice was the one I loved the most.

The voice that promised:

“Nhan Nhien, I will never let you cry.”

But promises were cheap.

Especially when people broke them easily.

“You want to know why?” I asked.

He didn’t answer.

I smiled faintly.

“Because while everyone thought I was dead…”

“I was learning how to live again.”

The child grabbed my hand.

“Mom, are we going home?”

Home.

That simple word made Co Thanh’s eyes tremble.

Because five years ago, I also asked him that.

“Thanh, after the wedding, where will we live?”

He hugged me and said:

“Anywhere with you is home.”

But the day he married Chu Diem…

That home disappeared.

I carried the pain alone.

I carried my child alone.

And nobody knew.

Not even him.

Five years earlier.

After receiving my mother’s final recorded call on my birthday, I disappeared.

I didn’t leave a letter.

I didn’t leave an explanation.

Because at that time, I had nothing left.

The person I loved for eight years was marrying someone else.

My father chose his stepdaughter.

My family chose silence.

Everyone believed I was too fragile.

Too emotional.

Too troublesome.

So I gave them what they wanted.

I disappeared.

But fate gave me one reason to continue.

My son.

When I discovered I was pregnant, I was already in another country.

I changed my name.

I started again.

I worked.

I studied.

I raised my child.

Every night when he asked:

“Where is my dad?”

I only said:

“He is somewhere far away.”

I never hated him.

Because a child should never carry the sins of adults.

But I also never intended to return.

Until today.

Until the man who destroyed my past appeared in front of me again.

Co Thanh stepped forward.

“Nhan Nhien…”

I moved back.

He stopped.

That small movement hurt him more than any accusation.

Because he finally realized.

I was no longer the woman who waited for him.

“Who is the child’s father?”

His voice shook.

I looked at him.

“You already know.”

His breathing became unstable.

“No…”

“Impossible.”

Chu Diem suddenly stepped forward.

“Thanh…”

Her voice trembled.

“Maybe she is just trying to…”

“Enough.”

For the first time, Co Thanh interrupted her.

His eyes never left me.

“When was he born?”

I answered calmly.

“Four years ago.”

His expression changed.

Four years.

The calculation was simple.

He understood.

Everyone understood.

The child was born after I disappeared.

But before he married Chu Diem.

The truth was standing right in front of him.

That night.

The Chu family mansion was unusually quiet.

Chu Kien Quoc sat across from me.

The powerful father who once told me:

“Stop making trouble.”

Now looked like an old man.

“Nnhan Nhien…”

He swallowed.

“Why didn’t you tell us?”

I laughed softly.

“Tell you?”

I looked at him.

“Five years ago, when I called you crying, what did you say?”

His face froze.

“You said I was embarrassing the family.”

“You said Chu Diem was sick and I should understand.”

“You said Thanh had made his choice.”

My fingers touched the child’s hand.

“At that moment, I understood.”

“If even my father doesn’t need me…”

“Then nobody does.”

Chu Kien Quoc lowered his head.

For the first time, he had nothing to say.

Later that night, Co Thanh came to find me.

He stood outside the hotel room for a long time.

Then he knocked.

I opened the door slightly.

He looked exhausted.

Older.

Broken.

“Can I see him?”

I knew who he meant.

My son.

I was silent.

Then I asked:

“Why?”

His eyes turned red.

“Because he is my son.”

Five years ago, I would have cried hearing that sentence.

Today…

I only felt tired.

“You lost that right five years ago.”

His face turned pale.

“I didn’t know.”

“No.”

I looked directly at him.

“You didn’t want to know.”

The words hit him harder than anything.

“You chose to believe everyone except me.”

“You chose another wedding.”

“You chose another woman.”

“And now that you know I survived…”

“You suddenly remember I existed.”

Co Thanh lowered his head.

A long silence.

Then he whispered:

“I’m sorry.”

I closed the door halfway.

“Sorry is what people say when they regret the consequences.”

“Not when they regret their choices.”

Before closing it completely, I added:

“Go back to your wife.”

His body froze.

Because for the first time…

He realized something.

The woman he had lost five years ago…

Was not waiting for him anymore.

And the child he never knew existed…

Already had a family.

Just not with him.
