Part 2: The Truth Hidden Behind Seven Years of Darkness

The first thing I did after hanging up the phone was not cry.

I thought I would.

I thought that after seven years of being trapped inside darkness, after discovering that the man I trusted had built my entire life on lies, I would collapse.

But I didn’t.

Because for the first time in seven years, I was no longer the woman everyone could control.

I could see.

And seeing was more dangerous than blindness.

That night, I remained in my bedroom with the lights turned off.

Not because I couldn’t see.

Because I wanted to remember what it felt like before.

The woman who sat in that room for seven years believed Adrian Lu was her savior.

She believed the gentle voice beside her bed.

She believed the bitter medicine.

She believed the endless sacrifices.

She believed every lie because she had no other choice.

But now I remembered something.

A fragment.

A sound.

A conversation before the accident.

A man’s voice whispering through the phone.

“Miss Su, if you expose the account transfers, you won’t just lose the company.”

A pause.

“You could lose your life.”

At that moment, I understood.

The accident wasn’t the beginning of my tragedy.

It was the result of someone trying to hide the truth.

The next morning, Adrian came into the room carrying breakfast.

The same expression.

The same careful smile.

The same performance he had given me for seven years.

“Elena, how are you feeling?”

I lowered my eyes.

I pretended my vision was still weak.

“Better.”

He placed the tray beside me.

“I was so scared yesterday. When you fell, I thought I would lose you.”

A strange feeling crossed my chest.

Before, those words would have made me emotional.

Now they sounded like an actor repeating a script.

I looked at his hands.

The hands I once held when I was afraid.

The hands I thought protected me.

Those same hands had hidden the truth from me.

“Adrian,” I said softly.

“Yes?”

“Do you remember the day we met?”

His expression froze for less than a second.

Then he smiled.

“Of course.”

“Tell me.”

He hesitated.

Only briefly.

But I saw it.

“I already told you many times. We met at the hospital. I was helping you after your accident.”

I nodded.

“Really?”

“Yes.”

I looked toward the window.

“Because I remember something different.”

Silence filled the room.

His smile disappeared.

“What do you remember?”

I turned my face away.

“I don’t know.”

It was the first lie I told him.

And strangely, it felt easy.

After breakfast, Adrian left for work.

I waited five minutes.

Then I opened the drawer beside my bed.

Inside were all the things from my life during those seven years.

Photos.

Medical documents.

Letters.

Everything Adrian wanted me to see.

But hidden underneath them was something I had never noticed before.

A small silver necklace.

My fingers touched it.

And suddenly my memory returned like lightning.

A young man standing in front of me.

Not Adrian.

Someone else.

My younger brother’s business partner.

He was holding this necklace.

“Elena, keep this safe. The information inside will expose them.”

Inside?

My heart started beating faster.

I searched the necklace carefully.

A tiny hidden compartment was built into the pendant.

Inside was a small memory chip.

I immediately called Thomas.

“Secretary Zhao.”

“Miss Elena?”

“I found something.”

His voice became serious.

“Where?”

“Something I hid before the accident.”

There was silence.

Then he answered.

“We will analyze it immediately.”

Three hours later, Thomas called back.

His voice was different.

Not the calm professional tone I remembered.

It was anger.

“Miss Elena, you were right.”

My fingers tightened around the phone.

“What did you find?”

“The chip contains financial records.”

“And?”

“It proves that someone transferred millions from the joint investment project between Su Capital and Lu Meridian Holdings.”

My heart sank.

“Who?”

Thomas paused.

Then said the name.

“Claire Xu.”

I closed my eyes.

The woman who lived in my house.

The woman who smiled at me every day.

The woman who everyone said sacrificed herself to take care of me.

But Thomas wasn’t finished.

“There is more.”

“What?”

“Adrian knew.”

The room became silent.

For several seconds, I couldn’t breathe.

“No.”

I whispered.

“Miss Elena…”

“No.”

I repeated.

Not because I didn’t believe him.

Because a part of me still wanted one thing to be true.

That Adrian had only lied about small things.

That he was not completely cruel.

But the next sentence destroyed that hope.

“Adrian wasn’t just aware of the fraud.”

Thomas lowered his voice.

“He was the person who signed the final approval.”

I sat there motionless.

Seven years.

Seven years beside a man who had watched me search for my past.

Seven years beside the person who might have destroyed it.

Then another message arrived from Thomas.

A DNA report.

Noah.

Claire.

Adrian.

Me.

I opened it.

The result was clear.

Noah was not my biological son.

But he was Adrian’s son.

And Claire was his mother.

I stared at those words until they blurred.

The child I raised.

The child I protected.

The child who called me a blind old woman.

He was never mine.

Adrian had built an entire family behind my back while keeping me trapped inside a fake marriage.

Then I saw the final line.

The one that made everything even worse.

The birth records had been altered.

Noah was born only three months before my accident.

Three months.

That meant Claire had been pregnant while living in my house.

While I was still Adrian’s wife.

I stood up slowly.

For seven years, they thought blindness made me powerless.

They were wrong.

Blindness only forced me to listen.

And I had listened to every lie.

Every whisper.

Every change in their voices.

Now I could finally see the faces behind them.

That evening, Adrian returned home earlier than usual.

He walked into the living room and smiled.

“Elena.”

I looked at him.

This time, I didn’t pretend.

My eyes met his directly.

He stopped.

For the first time, he realized something had changed.

“You can see.”

It wasn’t a question.

It was fear.

I smiled calmly.

“Yes.”

The color disappeared from his face.

“How long?”

I walked closer.

“Long enough.”

He stared at me.

And I watched the man who had controlled my entire world finally lose control of his own.

“Elena, listen to me.”

“No.”

My voice was quiet.

But firm.

“You spent seven years deciding what my reality was.”

I looked toward the staircase where Noah had pushed me.

“Now I want you to experience what it feels like when someone else controls the truth.”

His expression changed.

“What are you going to do?”

I picked up a folder from the table.

The divorce papers were inside.

But they were not the only documents.

There were also copies of the financial records.

The DNA report.

The accident investigation request.

I placed them in front of him.

“Nothing.”

I whispered.

“Not yet.”

Adrian stared at the papers.

Then his phone rang.

He answered.

A few seconds later, his face turned pale.

“Mr. Lu…”

The voice on the other side was loud enough for me to hear.

“The Su family has officially reopened the investigation.”

Adrian looked at me.

“You…”

I smiled.

“My father is alive, Adrian.”

His breathing stopped.

“And he remembers everything.”

For the first time in seven years, Adrian looked afraid of me.

Not because I was angry.

Not because I wanted revenge.

But because he finally understood something.

The woman he buried in darkness had returned.

And this time…

I could see everything.
