THE HONEYMOON PAPERS EXPOSED THEIR ENTIRE FRAUD NETWORK

The detective exchanged a quick glance with the fraud investigator.

Then he opened the final section of the case file.

“We need them to present the property transfer voluntarily.”

“If they pressure you to sign after learning nothing is wrong…”

“We’ll have attempted fraud.”

I nodded.

“And if they confess?”

“Even better.”

Susan slid a tiny digital recorder across the table.

“It records continuously for twelve hours.”

I slipped it into the lining of my handbag.

The investigator handed me photocopies of every forged identity Raymond Drake had ever used.

“There is one more thing.”

He pointed to a photograph.

“This woman.”

It was Rosalind.

Or rather…

Belinda Drake.

“She has never been his mother.”

“They’ve pretended to be mother and son for nearly fifteen years.”

“They marry wealthy women, isolate them, transfer their assets, and disappear before anyone realizes the marriage itself was fraudulent.”

I stared silently at the picture.

Everything suddenly made sense.

The constant criticism.

The pressure to let Derek “handle” my father’s coastal properties.

The insistence that all financial decisions should become “family decisions.”

None of it had ever been about love.

It had always been about ownership.

The detective stopped me before I left.

“One warning.”

“Once they realize you know the truth…”

“They may become desperate.”

I smiled calmly.

“They already made one mistake.”

“They assumed I only knew how to audit numbers.”

Twenty minutes later I returned to the hotel suite.

Rosalind looked irritated.

“Finally.”

“We’re late for breakfast.”

Derek smiled as though nothing in the world had changed.

“There you are.”

He lifted the thick folder from beside my passport.

“We can finish these estate papers before we leave for the airport.”

I pretended to hesitate.

“Do we really have to sign them today?”

Rosalind answered before Derek could speak.

“Absolutely.”

“If anything happens to you during travel, your husband needs authority over your properties.”

I slowly opened the folder.

The first pages looked harmless.

Travel authorizations.

Insurance forms.

Emergency contacts.

Exactly what they expected me to notice.

But buried near the back was a document transferring full management—and irrevocable power of attorney—over every property my father had left me.

Without looking up, I quietly asked,

“So if I sign this…”

“Derek owns everything?”

Rosalind smiled for the first time that morning.

“That’s what marriage is, dear.”

Before I could answer, someone knocked firmly on the suite door.

Three slow knocks.

Then two more.

The exact signal the detective had told me to expect if the investigation uncovered something even bigger.

When Derek opened the door, every trace of color drained from his face.

Standing in the hallway was another woman.

She held an original marriage certificate in one hand…

…and a little girl in the other.

The child looked directly at Derek and said only four words.

“Hello again, Daddy.”
