THE HOSPITAL RECORDS PROVED HIS MOTHER HAD STOLEN THREE YEARS OF THEIR LIVES

Daniel’s hands trembled as he stared at the silver medallion.

He had buried Claire believing fate had denied them a family.

Now two frightened little girls stood behind him, clinging to his jacket as though they had known him forever.

His mother finally spoke.

“That note is fake.”

Her voice was calm.

Too calm.

Daniel looked at Ivy.

“Who gave this to you?”

“Mommy Helen.”

“Where is she now?”

The little girl’s eyes filled with tears.

“She went to heaven.”

Skye quietly added,

“Before she closed her eyes, she said we had to find Daddy before Grandma Margaret did.”

Margaret’s face instantly turned white.

Daniel noticed it.

So did everyone else.

Without saying another word, he called his family attorney.

“I need emergency access to every medical record Claire ever signed.”

Margaret lunged toward him.

“You have no right!”

“I was her husband.”

“You’ll only reopen old wounds.”

Daniel looked directly at her.

“I think they’ve been open all along.”

By that evening, the attorney arrived carrying two sealed archive boxes retrieved from the fertility clinic Claire had attended years earlier.

Most of the files matched everything Daniel remembered.

Routine examinations.

Blood work.

Ultrasounds.

Then one page caught his attention.

Patient transferred after successful emergency delivery.

Daniel stopped breathing.

Emergency delivery?

Claire had never told him she had given birth.

He flipped through the remaining pages.

The discharge summary was missing.

So were the newborn records.

Only a handwritten nursing note remained.

“Mother requested immediate contact with husband. Request denied by accompanying family member.”

Daniel slowly raised his head.

“Who accompanied her?”

The attorney swallowed.

“The admission log lists only one name.”

Margaret Whitmore.

The room fell silent.

His mother took one step backward.

“It wasn’t what it looks like.”

Daniel ignored her.

He continued reading.

Another document had been hidden beneath the nursing report.

It was a receipt.

Private neonatal transportation.

Two female infants.

Destination…

Helen Carter.

Daniel stared at Ivy and Skye.

The girls.

Helen hadn’t stolen them.

She had protected them.

Just then, the attorney removed one final envelope from the archive.

“This wasn’t filed with the hospital.”

“It was mailed anonymously to my office yesterday.”

Inside was a flash drive.

Along with a handwritten sentence.

“If Daniel ever learns the truth, let him hear her own voice.”

Daniel inserted the drive into his laptop.

Claire appeared on the screen.

She was lying in a hospital bed, exhausted, tears streaming down her face as she cradled two newborn babies.

Then she looked directly into the camera.

“If you’re watching this… it means someone lied to you.”

Before she could say another word…

The recording suddenly cut to black.
