PART 2 — THE SCREEN TOLD THE TRUTH

The projector hummed softly.

For one endless second, nothing happened.

Then the first video appeared.

It was security footage from Ethan’s office, recorded two months earlier.

He stood beside Vivian and his attorney, laughing as he flipped through the pages of our prenuptial agreement.

“After the wedding,” Ethan said, “Hartwell Medical Systems becomes collateral. Once I move the patents into my holding company, she’ll own nothing but memories.”

Vivian smiled proudly.

“She’ll cry for a few weeks. Women always do.”

The chapel fell silent.

Ethan lunged toward the projector.

“Turn that off!”

I stepped back before he could reach it.

“Oh, we’re only getting started.”

The next recording began.

It wasn’t video this time.

It was audio.

His voice filled every corner of the church.

“If she refuses to sign, scare her a little. She bruises easily. Just don’t leave marks where photographers can see them.”

Several guests instinctively looked at my split lip.

Then at Ethan.

His face had lost every trace of confidence.

“That recording is fake,” he shouted.

“Is it?”

I pressed a remote hidden inside my bouquet.

The screen changed again.

Bank transfers appeared one after another.

Millions of dollars had moved from Ethan’s investment company into shell corporations over the previous eighteen months.

Each transfer carried digital signatures.

Each signature belonged to Ethan.

His chief financial officer slowly stood from the third row.

“You told us those accounts were approved by Hartwell Medical.”

“They weren’t,” I answered calmly.

“I never signed a single authorization.”

The murmurs grew louder.

Investors grabbed their phones.

Two members of Ethan’s board stared at each other in disbelief.

Then came the final file.

A recording from that very morning.

The hotel suite.

The mirror.

The sound of glass breaking.

My torn veil.

Ethan shoving me hard enough to split my lip.

His voice echoed through the chapel.

“You’re signing today even if I have to drag you down the aisle.”

The screen froze on his hand wrapped around my throat.

Nobody laughed anymore.

Vivian’s smile disappeared.

The pastor stepped away from the altar.

“I… I cannot continue this ceremony.”

Ethan spun toward me with wild eyes.

“You planned all of this.”

“Yes.”

“You set me up.”

“No.”

I held his gaze without blinking.

“You simply performed exactly as I knew you would.”

At that precise moment, the heavy wooden doors behind the congregation opened.

Three detectives entered alongside two federal financial investigators.

No one had noticed them arriving.

One detective walked directly toward Ethan.

“Mr. Ethan Brooks?”

Ethan backed away.

“You don’t have a warrant.”

The detective calmly held up a folder.

“We have arrest warrants for securities fraud, conspiracy, aggravated assault, and evidence tampering.”

Gasps swept through the chapel.

Ethan looked desperately toward his attorney.

The attorney quietly gathered his briefcase…

…and walked out of the church without saying a single word.

For the first time all morning, Ethan stood completely alone.

Then one of the investigators turned toward me.

“Ms. Hartwell,” she said, “there’s one more person we need you to identify.”

She placed a photograph in my hands.

The face staring back at me belonged to someone I had trusted even more than Ethan.

And in that instant, I realized the betrayal had never started with my fiancé.
