PART 2 – THREE DAYS LATER, HE LEARNED SHE HAD PLANNED EVERYTHING.

Adrian did not sleep that night.

For the first time in years, Isabella called him repeatedly.

He ignored every call.

Instead, he went back to the beginning.

The scratch on her arm.

The accusation against me.

The convenient timing.

And the fact that Isabella had somehow known exactly what to say to make him lose control.

At two in the morning, Adrian called the head of security at Gu Group.

—I want every recording from outside my house that day.

—Sir, Mrs. Xu already requested—

Adrian froze.

—Isabella requested the recordings?

Silence.

—Yes. She said you had authorized deletion because of a private family matter.

His expression changed.

—Were they deleted?

—The main server copy was. But there is an automatic backup.

Adrian closed his eyes.

—Send it to me.

Twenty minutes later, he saw the truth.

Isabella had arrived nearly forty minutes before ringing our doorbell.

She wasn’t crying.

She wasn’t frightened.

She stood beside a black car speaking calmly with a man Adrian recognized as her assistant.

Then she deliberately damaged the sleeve of her blouse and created the minor injury she later blamed on me.

Adrian watched the footage twice.

Then a third time.

He called her.

Isabella answered immediately.

—Adrian? Finally. I’ve been worried—

—Why did you lie?

Silence.

—What?

—Claire never touched you.

Isabella’s breathing changed.

—Who told you that?

—Answer me.

Her sweet voice disappeared.

—After everything I’ve done for you, you’re interrogating me because of her?

Adrian said nothing.

Isabella continued:

—She was taking you away from me.

—She was my wife.

—And I was there first!

The sentence exploded between them.

Adrian’s hand tightened around the phone.

—So you planned it.

Isabella suddenly became quiet.

Then she laughed softly.

—Planned what?

—You knew exactly how I would react.

Another silence.

That was answer enough.

Adrian whispered:

—Claire was pregnant.

Isabella stopped breathing.

—What?

—Twins.

For the first time, she had no clever reply.

Adrian ended the call.

The next morning he sent everything to his lawyer.

Not to protect himself.

To preserve the evidence.

Then he walked into my hospital room carrying nothing.

No flowers.

No excuses.

Ethan was reviewing my discharge documents when Adrian entered.

He immediately stepped between us.

—Five minutes.

I looked at Ethan.

—It’s fine.

He left, but the door remained open.

Adrian stood several feet from my bed.

He looked different.

Not because his clothes had changed.

Because the arrogance had.

—You were right.

I said nothing.

He placed a folder on the table.

—Security footage. Messages. Financial transfers between Isabella and the man who helped her.

I opened the folder.

There were also screenshots.

Isabella had paid him weeks earlier.

There were messages discussing how to create a confrontation.

How to make me look dangerous.

How to make Adrian believe she needed protection.

One message stood out.

“Once he crosses the line for me, Claire will never stay.”

I stared at it.

Then looked at Adrian.

—She understood you better than I did.

His eyes reddened.

—Don’t say that.

—Why not?

My voice remained calm.

—She knew that all she had to do was point at me and you would believe her.

He lowered his head.

—I’m turning everything over to the police.

—Good.

—I’ll also cooperate with whatever you file against me.

That surprised me.

He continued:

—I won’t ask you to protect my reputation.

For years, Gu Group had spent fortunes protecting its chairman’s image.

Adrian finally understood that some consequences could not be buried beneath lawyers and public relations.

I reached into the bedside drawer.

The divorce papers were already there.

I placed them in front of him.

—Sign.

His face tightened.

—Claire…

—You said you would cooperate.

He stared at the papers.

Then slowly picked up the pen.

His signature looked unsteady.

When he finished, he didn’t release the document immediately.

—Is there truly nothing I can do?

I looked at him.

—There is.

Hope flashed across his face.

—What?

—Become the kind of man who never does this to anyone again.

The hope disappeared.

—But not for me.

I shook my head.

—Not for me.

Two weeks later, the investigation became public.

Isabella’s carefully maintained image collapsed first.

The recording from my hand, the security footage and her messages told the same story.

She had manufactured the confrontation.

But no evidence erased Adrian’s responsibility.

He had made his own choice.

He had acted without asking me a single question.

Gu Group announced that Adrian would temporarily step away from management while legal proceedings continued.

The headlines were brutal.

The board was furious.

His father demanded that he protect the family name.

Adrian refused.

For once, he told the complete truth.

Months later, Isabella was prosecuted for her role in planning the deception and related offenses.

Adrian faced the consequences of his own actions separately.

I never attended either hearing.

I had already spent enough of my life watching people who hurt me become the center of the story.

I moved to another city.

Ethan helped arrange follow-up care there, and after I recovered, I returned to work.

I also changed my surname back to Lawson.

The first time I saw Dr. Claire Lawson printed on my office door, I stood there longer than necessary.

It felt like getting something back.

Almost a year later, a package arrived.

No return address was necessary.

I recognized Adrian’s handwriting.

Inside were two small silver stars.

Nothing else except a note.

“For the two lives I will remember for the rest of mine.”

I folded the note.

Then placed everything inside a drawer.

I did not call him.

I did not forgive him.

And I did not hate him anymore.

That surprised me most.

Hatred still required a connection.

I had none left.

Adrian had once believed Isabella’s accusation without asking whether I was innocent.

Later, he discovered that she had manipulated him.

But that was never the most important truth.

The most important truth was that manipulation could explain why he became suspicious.

It could never excuse what he chose to do next.

And that was why our marriage ended long before the divorce judge signed anything.

It ended the moment my husband decided another woman’s word mattered more than my safety.
