PART 2: The Day Ethan Whitmore Realized His Ex-Wife Was Never His Weakest Point

The first thing Ethan noticed was not the acquisition being canceled.

It was the silence.

Normally, when a major project collapsed, Whitmore Group became chaotic.

Phones rang.

Executives shouted.

Assistants ran through the halls.

But this time…

everyone was waiting.

Waiting for one person’s decision.

And that person was no longer sitting beside him.

His phone kept vibrating.

One call after another.

The board.

The banks.

The European partners.

Everyone wanted answers.

But Ethan couldn’t answer a single question.

Because the only thing repeating in his mind was one sentence.

It was his ex-wife who signed the withdrawal order.

His ex-wife.

Lina.

The woman who had quietly cooked dinner every night.

The woman who always waited for him to come home.

The woman Eleanor called an orphan.

The woman he believed needed him.

But how could someone who needed him control billions of dollars?

At nine in the morning, Ethan arrived at Whitmore Group.

For the first time in three years…

he entered the building feeling like a stranger.

The receptionist stood up immediately.

—Mr. Whitmore.

Then she hesitated.

Her eyes moved behind him.

Almost as if she was expecting someone else.

Ethan noticed.

—What?

The receptionist quickly lowered her head.

—Nothing, sir.

But everyone knew.

Something had changed.

Because yesterday, Lina left the Whitmore mansion quietly.

Today…

the entire company was talking about her.

In the emergency board meeting, the CFO placed a document on the table.

—Mr. Whitmore.

—Before discussing the acquisition, there is something you need to know.

Ethan looked up.

—What?

The CFO took a breath.

—The capital that supported Whitmore Group during the past three years…

Silence.

—It came from Blake International Holdings.

Ethan frowned.

That name.

He had heard it before.

A global investment empire.

A company so powerful that even Whitmore Group had tried to cooperate with them several times.

But failed.

Because Blake International never invested randomly.

They only chose companies with exceptional strategic value.

—What does this have to do with Lina?

Nobody answered immediately.

Then the CFO said:

—The authorized representative of Blake International Asia-Pacific Division…

opened the file.

And pushed it toward him.

Ethan looked down.

His fingers froze.

The signature.

The authorization stamp.

The name.

Lina Blake.

For several seconds…

he couldn’t breathe.

Lina Blake.

Not Lina.

Not the woman who wore cheap sweaters at home.

Not the woman who apologized whenever his mother criticized her.

Lina Blake.

The heir of Blake International.

The woman who could buy half of Whitmore Group without blinking.

The woman who had spent three years pretending to be ordinary…

just because she loved him.

The first thing Ethan did was return home.

Not because he wanted to apologize.

Not yet.

Because he needed to prove that this was some misunderstanding.

That there was an explanation.

That Lina was still the same woman who would forgive him.

But when he opened the door…

the house was empty.

The apron was gone.

The flowers she planted were gone.

The small notes she left everywhere were gone.

The person who had filled the house with warmth…

had disappeared completely.

On the dining table was only one envelope.

His name was written on it.

Ethan Whitmore.

His hand trembled slightly as he opened it.

Inside was only one page.

No accusations.

No anger.

Only a few lines.

“Ethan,

You always wondered what I would do without the Whitmore family.

Now you can finally see the answer.

I hope you also find out who you are without the person who protected you.”

He read it again.

And again.

Then he sat down.

For the first time in three years…

Ethan understood something terrifying.

Lina had never stayed because she had nowhere to go.

She stayed because she chose him.

And yesterday…

he lost the privilege of being chosen.

Meanwhile, at Blake International headquarters…

Lina sat at the head of a long conference table.

The same woman who yesterday wore an apron in the Whitmore mansion…

today had dozens of executives waiting for her instructions.

—President Blake.

The CFO placed the documents in front of her.

—The withdrawal is complete.

She nodded.

—Good.

One executive hesitated.

—President Blake…

—Are you sure?

Lina looked up.

—About what?

—About completely cutting ties with Whitmore Group.

For a moment, she was silent.

Then she looked outside the glass window.

The city was covered in rain.

Just like yesterday.

Only today…

she wasn’t standing outside someone’s house waiting to be accepted.

She was standing at the top of her own world.

—Three years ago, I invested in Whitmore Group because of Ethan.

Pause.

—Today, I withdrew because of Ethan.

The executive understood.

Sometimes the greatest loss was not losing money.

It was losing the person who once believed in you.

That afternoon, Ethan received one more piece of news.

Vanessa Hale had returned to the city.

She came to the Whitmore mansion smiling.

Confident.

Certain that everything was finally hers.

But when she saw Ethan sitting alone in the living room…

she stopped.

—Ethan?

He looked at her.

And for the first time…

there was no warmth in his eyes.

Only exhaustion.

Vanessa frowned.

—What happened?

Ethan didn’t answer.

Because suddenly he realized something.

For three years, he thought Vanessa was the person he lost.

But the person he lost yesterday…

was the only person who had never abandoned him.

The divorce papers were still on the table.

The signature was still there.

But now Ethan wanted to erase it.

Unfortunately…

for the first time in their relationship…

Lina was no longer waiting for him to make a decision.

She had already made hers.

And this time…

he was the one too late.
