PART 2 — The Day Daniel Reeves Lost The Woman He Thought He Controlled

Daniel stared at the message on his phone.

Helvetia Genetic Center.

The words seemed to burn into his eyes.

For several seconds, he didn’t move.

The people around him were still celebrating.

His mother was smiling.

Olivia was holding the baby.

The nurses were congratulating them.

Everyone was saying the same thing:

“The Reeves heir has arrived.”

But Daniel heard nothing.

Because suddenly…

he was afraid.

“Daniel?”

Olivia touched his arm.

“What happened?”

He looked at her.

The woman who had spent nine months telling him that this child was their future.

The woman he had protected.

The woman he had chosen over his wife.

Then he looked down at the baby.

A child he had already announced to the world as his successor.

A child whose future had been decided before anyone knew the truth.

His mother noticed his expression.

“What’s wrong?”

Daniel didn’t answer.

He walked away from everyone.

His fingers trembled as he entered the code.

The screen loaded.

One second.

Two seconds.

Three.

Then the report appeared.

PATERNITY ANALYSIS RESULT

Probability of Daniel Reeves being the biological father: 0.00%.

The world became silent.

Daniel read it once.

Then again.

Then again.

But the words didn’t change.

“No…”

His voice was barely audible.

“No, this is impossible.”

Behind him, Olivia’s face lost all color.

Because she understood immediately.

She knew exactly what that report meant.

“Daniel…”

She tried to speak.

But he raised his hand.

For the first time, he didn’t look at her with love.

He looked at her with disbelief.

“How long?”

Olivia froze.

“Daniel…”

“How long have you known?”

The room became quiet.

His mother looked between them.

“What is happening?”

Daniel turned the phone around.

The genetic report was visible.

The celebration ended instantly.

“You told me he was mine.”

Olivia’s lips trembled.

“I thought…”

“You thought what?”

His voice was cold.

“You thought I would never check?”

A tear fell from Olivia’s eyes.

“I was going to tell you.”

“When?”

“After the baby was born?”

“After you destroyed your marriage?”

“After you abandoned Victoria?”

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone knew.

Meanwhile, thousands of kilometers away…

I was sitting beside Lake Zurich.

A cup of coffee warming my hands.

For the first time in years, my phone was silent.

No calls from investors.

No emergency meetings.

No Daniel asking me to fix another crisis.

No Olivia pretending to respect me while taking my place.

Just peace.

My lawyer called.

“Victoria.”

“Yes?”

“It’s done.”

“The shares have been transferred.”

“The legal separation documents are ready.”

“And ReevesTech is already facing pressure from the board.”

I looked at the lake.

“Good.”

A pause.

“Do you feel satisfied?”

I thought about that question.

Revenge.

People always imagined revenge as happiness.

As seeing someone fall.

But that wasn’t what I felt.

I didn’t feel joy.

I felt freedom.

“Tell me something,” my lawyer asked.

“Why did you wait until that day?”

I smiled slightly.

“Because Daniel always believed he was choosing between two women.”

“But he was wrong.”

“What was he choosing?”

I looked at the reflection of the water.

“He was choosing between a woman who built his empire…”

“And a woman who only wanted to inherit it.”

Back in New York, Daniel returned home alone.

The mansion that once felt like power now felt empty.

Every room reminded him of Victoria.

The woman who knew his schedules.

His fears.

His dreams.

The woman who stayed when nobody believed in him.

He entered the office.

On the desk was an old photograph.

Their first company meeting.

Five years earlier.

Daniel looked young.

Victoria was standing beside him with a notebook in her hand.

He remembered what she said that day:

“One day this company will be huge.”

He had laughed.

“How do you know?”

She had smiled.

“Because I know you.”

Now he finally understood.

She didn’t just know him.

She created the version of him everyone admired.

His assistant entered carefully.

“Mr. Reeves.”

Daniel didn’t look up.

“Yes?”

“The board wants an emergency meeting.”

“Why?”

The assistant hesitated.

“Because several major investors are requesting explanations.”

“About what?”

“The client relationships.”

“The foreign partnerships.”

“The strategic accounts.”

Daniel closed his eyes.

Because he knew.

Those relationships belonged to Victoria.

Not because she owned them.

Because people trusted her.

“Find her.”

The assistant looked confused.

“Mrs. Reeves?”

Daniel nodded.

“Find my wife.”

The assistant hesitated.

“Sir…”

“What?”

“She filed for divorce this morning.”

Silence.

Daniel finally understood.

Victoria hadn’t disappeared.

She had left.

There was a difference.

Three months later, Daniel found her in Switzerland.

Not hiding.

Not running.

Giving a presentation at an international business conference.

She stood on stage confidently.

No longer the woman behind the CEO.

No longer the wife supporting someone else’s dream.

She was Victoria Reeves.

A name that existed by itself.

After the presentation, Daniel waited outside.

When she saw him, she stopped.

But she wasn’t shocked.

She wasn’t angry.

She was simply calm.

“Daniel.”

He looked at her.

For the first time, he didn’t know what to say.

Finally:

“I’m sorry.”

Victoria remained silent.

“I lost everything.”

She looked at him.

“No.”

“You lost what you never valued.”

His eyes turned red.

“I thought you would always be there.”

“I know.”

“And that’s why you lost me.”

Daniel lowered his head.

“I love you.”

Victoria smiled sadly.

“No.”

“You loved having me.”

“You loved what I did for you.”

“You loved the company I helped build.”

“You loved the life I created.”

A pause.

“But you didn’t love me enough to choose me.”

Daniel had no answer.

Because for the first time…

he had nothing to defend himself with.

Years later, ReevesTech still existed.

But it was never the same.

Daniel rebuilt part of his company.

He became more careful.

More humble.

But there was one thing he could never recover.

The woman who had stood beside him before the world knew his name.

As for me…

I stayed in Switzerland.

I built my own company.

I traveled.

I learned what it felt like to wake up without carrying someone else’s dreams on my shoulders.

Daniel once sent me one last message.

Only one sentence:

“I should have protected you.”

I read it.

Then deleted it.

Because sometimes the biggest mistake someone makes…

is realizing your value only after losing access to it.

The day Daniel Reeves sent twenty bodyguards to protect a woman who betrayed him…

he thought he was protecting his future.

He didn’t know…

the person he should have protected was already leaving.

And by the time he understood…

she was already too far away to return.
