PART 2: The Son He Abandoned Became The Reason He Lost Everything

The message remained on my phone screen for a long time.

“Ethan’s wedding will be next month.”

“The bride is the heir of Rihua Group.”

“Do you think you won?”

I looked at those words.

Then I looked at my sleeping son.

His tiny fingers were wrapped around mine.

For nine months, he had been the only person who never abandoned me.

The only person who stayed.

And suddenly…

I realized something.

I was no longer the woman waiting for Ethan Zhou to return.

I was the mother of his child.

And that changed everything.

Three days after giving birth, Ethan came to my hospital room.

Alone.

No flowers.

No excuses.

Just him.

Standing at the door like a stranger who didn’t know whether he had the right to enter.

“Ava.”

I didn’t answer.

He looked at the baby beside me.

Our son.

His expression became complicated.

“I didn’t know.”

I smiled faintly.

“You didn’t ask.”

His face turned pale.

“I tried to find you.”

I looked at him.

“After nine months?”

Silence.

“You disappeared.”

“You blocked my number.”

“You let me believe you were dead.”

His voice became low.

“I was forced to leave.”

I looked away.

Everyone always had a reason.

A reason for leaving.

A reason for lying.

A reason for hurting someone.

But nobody ever had a reason that could erase the pain.

“Your mother said she found you a suitable fiancée.”

Ethan froze.

“What?”

I watched his reaction carefully.

This time, I believed him.

Because his shock was real.

“You didn’t know?”

“No.”

His hands tightened.

“My mother told you that?”

I nodded.

“She told me the Zhou family had already decided.”

“And that I should stop bothering you.”

Ethan closed his eyes.

For the first time…

I saw anger.

Not toward me.

Toward the person who had destroyed everything.

That evening, Linda Zhou came back.

But this time…

She didn’t come with arrogance.

She came with lawyers.

And confidence.

“Ava Morgan.”

Her voice was cold.

“Let’s talk about the child.”

I held my son’s blanket tighter.

“There is nothing to discuss.”

“He is a Zhou family descendant.”

I smiled.

“Interesting.”

“What?”

“When you didn’t know he was a boy, he was a bastard.”

Her expression changed.

“Watch your words.”

“No.”

I looked directly at her.

“For nine months, nobody from the Zhou family cared if I survived.”

“You didn’t ask if I was healthy.”

“You didn’t ask if the baby was safe.”

“But now that you know he is a son…”

I paused.

“Suddenly everyone remembers blood?”

Linda’s face turned ugly.

“You think you can fight the Zhou family?”

“No.”

I looked at my son.

“I don’t need to fight.”

“Why?”

“Because I am his mother.”

The room became silent.

“And you should remember something.”

“A child is not an inheritance.”

Two weeks later, the Zhou family announced Ethan’s engagement.

The news spread everywhere.

Doctor Ethan Zhou.

The talented surgeon.

The future heir of the Zhou family.

Marrying the daughter of Rihua Group.

Everyone congratulated them.

Everyone thought I had lost.

But they didn’t know something.

While they were preparing a wedding…

I was preparing a life.

Before Ethan disappeared, I was just Ava Morgan.

A woman who loved him.

A woman who believed promises.

A woman who thought love could overcome everything.

But after nine months alone…

I became someone else.

I reopened my mother’s old company.

I used the inheritance she left me.

I built a medical technology business.

At first, people doubted me.

A single mother.

A young woman.

No powerful family behind her.

But they forgot something.

People who survive the darkest moments become difficult to destroy.

Three months later, my company announced a partnership.

With Rihua Group.

The same family Ethan was supposedly marrying into.

The news shocked everyone.

Especially the Zhou family.

Because the woman they thought had nothing…

was now standing at the same table as them.

At the signing ceremony, I saw Ethan again.

He looked at me.

Then at my son.

Our son.

“You knew?”

I looked at him.

“Knew what?”

“That you had this ability.”

I smiled.

“You never asked.”

Again.

Those words.

The same answer.

Because that was Ethan’s biggest mistake.

He always assumed he knew me.

But he never truly looked at me.

After the ceremony, Ethan stopped me.

“Ava.”

I turned around.

“Are you happy?”

The question surprised me.

I thought about it.

Then nodded.

“Yes.”

“Without me?”

“Yes.”

That answer hurt him.

I could see it.

But I no longer felt guilty.

Because for nine months…

I had needed him.

And he wasn’t there.

“Can I be part of his life?”

I looked at my son.

Then at Ethan.

“You can be his father.”

His eyes softened.

“But?”

I continued:

“You cannot use him to fix what you broke.”

Silence.

“You cannot come back because you finally regret leaving.”

The wedding between Ethan and the Rihua heiress was canceled soon after.

Not because of me.

Because the truth came out.

The Zhou family discovered Linda had manipulated communication between Ethan and me.

She had hidden my calls.

Deleted my messages.

Created the illusion that I had abandoned him.

But the damage was already done.

Because even if Ethan wasn’t the person who chose to leave…

He was the person who never fought hard enough to find me.

One year later.

My son took his first steps.

Ethan was there.

Not as my husband.

Not as the man from my past.

Just as his father.

And slowly…

I learned to forgive.

Not because he deserved it.

Because I deserved peace.

People often ask me:

“If Ethan had returned earlier, would you have forgiven him?”

I smile.

Maybe.

The old Ava would have.

The woman who waited.

The woman who believed every promise.

But that woman disappeared nine months after Ethan Zhou left.

The woman who remained…

was a mother.

A survivor.

A woman who finally understood her own worth.

The day I gave birth, the doctor was the father of my child.

I thought that was the cruelest coincidence in the world.

But later I realized…

Life was not bringing him back to punish me.

Life was giving me a chance to see him clearly.

The man I loved disappeared.

The man who returned was someone I had to decide whether to forgive.

And this time…

I didn’t choose him.

I chose myself.

He left me alone when I needed him most.

But when he returned, he found the woman who survived without him.

And that woman no longer needed anyone to save her.
