Part 2: My boyfriend tried to make me the murderer to save another woman… but the future version of me had already warned me.

The police station was brighter than I expected.

Too bright.

The kind of light that made every expression impossible to hide.

I sat in front of the officer and answered every question calmly.

Name.

Occupation.

Time of arrival.

Reason for being at the scene.

Everything was recorded.

Everything was official.

Exactly what I needed.

When the statement was finished, the officer looked at me.

—Doctor Evans, you can leave for now.

I nodded.

Before standing up, my phone vibrated again.

Ethan.

Twenty-three missed calls.

I stared at the screen.

The man who had spent eight months carefully entering my life…

The man who knew exactly when I was tired.

The man who remembered how I drank coffee.

The man who held my hand and told me:

“Grace, you don’t have to be strong all the time.”

Was now the same person trying to send me to death row.

I suddenly felt ridiculous.

Not because I trusted him.

Because I never imagined that the person closest to me could be the most dangerous one.

When I returned to the hospital, everything looked normal.

Too normal.

Nurses walked through the corridors.

Doctors discussed cases.

Patients waited.

Nobody knew that somewhere inside this building…

someone was preparing my destruction.

I went directly to the cardiac surgery department.

Operating room five was still closed.

A nurse immediately recognized me.

—Dr. Evans?

I smiled.

—I’m looking for Dr. Shaw.

Her expression changed slightly.

—Professor Shaw is still inside.

—Inside?

She nodded.

—The surgery has just finished.

My heart sank.

Finished?

But the future me had said…

Ethan would make it look like I was there.

I looked through the glass window.

The people inside were moving around.

Cleaning instruments.

Recording notes.

Everything seemed normal.

Until I saw the surgical record screen.

My name.

Grace Evans.

Main surgeon.

My fingers became cold.

Impossible.

I was not even qualified to perform that operation.

Someone had deliberately placed my name there.

A voice came from behind.

—You came after all.

I turned.

Ethan stood there.

Still wearing his surgical clothes.

His eyes looked tired.

Concerned.

Almost convincing.

For a second…

my heart almost believed him.

Then I remembered the phone call.

The future me crying.

“I’m going to be executed.”

I stepped back.

—Why did you need me here?

His expression froze.

—What are you talking about?

—Operating room five.

Silence.

Just a second.

But enough.

Enough for me to see fear.

Real fear.

Then it disappeared.

—Grace, what happened to you today?

He approached.

—You suddenly disappeared.

—You didn’t answer.

—I was worried.

I looked at him.

—Were you?

His face changed.

—What does that mean?

I smiled.

—Nothing.

The same words he had used many times.

Nothing.

Then Amelia Meng walked out.

She was still wearing surgical clothes.

Beautiful.

Calm.

The perfect person Ethan wanted to protect.

When she saw me, she stopped.

For a moment, panic crossed her face.

Only a moment.

But I saw it.

—Grace…

She whispered.

—Why are you here?

I laughed softly.

—Funny question.

Amelia looked at Ethan.

A tiny movement.

A silent exchange.

And I understood.

They had done this before.

They had planned together.

That night, I checked my hospital account.

The modifications were everywhere.

My access.

My schedule.

My medical records.

Someone had spent weeks preparing.

Not days.

Weeks.

Ethan didn’t suddenly decide to sacrifice me.

He had been building the cage long before I knew there was one.

Then another notification appeared.

A security video.

Time: 19:42.

Location: Operating room five entrance.

Person entering:

Grace Evans.

I opened it.

My breathing stopped.

The woman in the video was wearing my white coat.

My ID.

My hairstyle.

But I knew immediately.

That wasn’t me.

Someone had copied my appearance.

Someone had planned everything.

My phone rang.

Unknown number.

I answered immediately.

Silence.

Then…

my own voice.

But older.

More exhausted.

—You saw it.

I closed my eyes.

—Yes.

The future me breathed.

—You only have one chance now.

—What?

—Don’t expose Ethan yet.

I frowned.

—Why?

—Because he prepared everything.

—If you attack now, he will erase the remaining evidence and make you look unstable.

I gripped the phone.

—Then what do I do?

A long silence.

Then she said:

—Make him believe you still trust him.

My heart sank.

—You want me to pretend?

—Yes.

—Because the only evidence that can destroy Ethan…

—Is the evidence he thinks nobody will ever find.

The call started breaking.

I quickly asked:

—Who helped him?

Silence.

Then her final words came through.

—Grace…

—The person who betrayed you wasn’t only Ethan.

Static.

—Amelia was never the most dangerous one.

The call ended.

The next morning, Ethan came to my apartment.

He brought flowers.

The same flowers he brought on our first date.

—I’m sorry about yesterday.

I looked at him.

—For what?

He smiled.

—For not spending enough time with you.

My fingers tightened around the cup.

A perfect performance.

I lowered my eyes.

—Ethan.

—Hmm?

—I was scared yesterday.

His expression softened.

—I’m here now.

I nodded.

—Promise me something.

—Anything.

I looked directly at him.

—Never lie to me.

For a moment…

his face froze.

Only for a moment.

Then he smiled.

—I promise.

I smiled back.

—Good.

Because from that day on…

I stopped being the woman Ethan wanted to destroy.

I became the person who would uncover every secret he buried.

And what Ethan still didn’t know…

was that the future version of me hadn’t called to save my life.

She had called because there was something worse than death row.

Something that happened after I discovered the truth.

Something that would make me wish I had never trusted him at all.
