Part 2: The Child They Tried To Steal

The entire hallway became silent.

Nobody dared to breathe.

Andrew Foster stared at the report in David Morgan’s hand as if it were a death sentence.

I looked at him.

For the first time since he appeared in front of the operating room…

He no longer looked like a man who had everything under control.

He looked afraid.

“Whose embryo was sent to Claire?”

My voice was weak because of the pain.

But every word was clear.

Andrew opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

Sophia lowered her head.

That was enough.

I understood.

The truth was worse than I imagined.

David handed the report to me.

“Elena, before you enter the operating room, you deserve to know everything.”

My fingers trembled as I opened the document.

The first page contained the genetic results.

The second page contained the transfer records.

And the third page…

Made my blood run cold.

“The embryo transferred into your body was created from your own eggs.”

David paused.

“And the sperm sample was from Andrew.”

I looked at Andrew.

“So the child is ours.”

Nobody answered.

Because everyone already knew.

The baby I had carried for nine months.

The baby I had protected with my life.

The baby they tried to take away from me…

Was mine.

Was ours.

Andrew’s face turned pale.

“But Claire…”

David interrupted him.

“Claire Bennett was never the biological mother.”

The hallway exploded into whispers.

Andrew’s mother stepped back.

“No…”

She shook her head.

“That can’t be true.”

David looked at her coldly.

“The documents were altered.”

“Claire’s name was inserted as the biological mother after the transfer.”

My hands tightened around the blanket.

“So all this time…”

I looked at Andrew.

“You knew the baby was mine.”

His silence answered me.

A sharp pain crossed my chest.

Not because I didn’t know.

But because I finally understood.

He had never planned to give me a choice.

Andrew stepped forward.

“Elena, listen to me.”

I looked at him.

“Don’t call me that.”

His face changed.

“You are angry now. I understand.”

A bitter laugh escaped my lips.

“Angry?”

I looked around.

“At eight months and three weeks, you told me my child wasn’t mine.”

“You told me another woman would sign as his mother.”

“You waited until I was about to enter surgery.”

My voice became colder.

“And you call this anger?”

Andrew lowered his eyes.

“I made a mistake.”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“A mistake is forgetting an appointment.”

“A mistake is saying something hurtful.”

“What you did was a decision.”

“You planned it.”

Every word hit him harder than any slap.

Because he knew.

The medical director looked at Sophia.

“Doctor Reed, you need to explain your involvement.”

Sophia’s face lost all color.

“I…”

She looked at me.

“Sister, I was only trying to help.”

I stared at her.

“You helped them steal my child.”

“No.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“I thought Claire would only temporarily raise him.”

I froze.

“Temporarily?”

Sophia realized what she had said.

Too late.

David’s lawyers immediately started taking notes.

Andrew’s expression changed.

“Sophia!”

But she had already revealed too much.

I looked at my sister.

The person I trusted.

The person I recommended.

The person who knew my medical history better than anyone.

“You knew I was carrying my own child.”

She cried.

“I didn’t know Andrew would go this far.”

I smiled sadly.

“That is always what people say after they get caught.”

Another contraction came.

The monitor started beeping again.

The doctor quickly checked the screen.

“We need to move now.”

This time nobody argued.

Because now everyone knew.

This was no longer about Claire.

It was about protecting my baby.

As they prepared the transfer, Andrew grabbed my hand.

“Elena.”

I looked at him.

There was desperation in his eyes.

“I love you.”

For a second…

The old Elena almost appeared.

The woman who spent four years believing love could fix everything.

But she disappeared.

Because love did not look like this.

Love did not require me to lose my rights.

Love did not turn me into a tool.

I pulled my hand away.

“If you loved me…”

I whispered.

“You would have told me the truth before I was lying here.”

Andrew froze.

The operating room doors opened.

The nurses pushed my stretcher forward.

Before entering, I heard Andrew’s mother crying.

I heard Sophia begging David.

I heard lawyers discussing evidence.

But the only thing I focused on…

Was the heartbeat on the monitor.

My baby’s heartbeat.

Three hours later.

A cry filled the operating room.

A strong, healthy cry.

The doctor smiled.

“Congratulations.”

“A boy.”

Tears filled my eyes.

Not because Andrew was the father.

Not because the Foster family had an heir.

But because my son was finally safe.

The nurse placed him beside me.

I touched his tiny hand.

“I’m sorry, baby.”

My voice trembled.

“Your mother almost lost you.”

The nurse smiled.

“He knows you fought for him.”

I closed my eyes.

For the first time in nine months…

I felt peace.

Outside the operating room, Andrew waited.

When the doctor came out, he immediately stood.

“How is Elena?”

The doctor looked at him.

“She is safe.”

“And the baby?”

The doctor paused.

“Her son is healthy.”

Andrew’s face changed.

Her son.

Not the Foster heir.

Not his family’s possession.

Her son.

Then the lawyer walked toward him.

“Mr. Foster.”

Andrew looked up.

“Your wife has filed an emergency legal request.”

His heart sank.

“What request?”

The lawyer handed him a document.

“Full custody protection.”

Andrew stared at the papers.

“She wants to take my son away?”

The lawyer’s expression was cold.

“No.”

“She wants to protect him from anyone who tried to take him away.”

At that moment, Andrew finally understood.

The woman he thought would always forgive him…

Had reached her limit.

And before he could even see his son…

His phone received another message.

A new investigation report.

The sender:

The hospital’s internal audit department.

The title was simple.

“Claire Bennett’s real medical history.”

Andrew opened it.

And his hands began to shake.

Because the truth inside the file…

Was something even he didn’t know.
