Part 2: The Company Was Never His

I looked at Adrián.

“What did she mean?”

His jaw tightened.

“Nothing.”

Clara laughed softly.

“Then tell her.”

Adrián grabbed her arm.

“Enough.”

That was the first moment I saw real fear in my husband’s eyes.

Not guilt.

Fear.

I stepped back into the room and closed the door.

“No. I’m not leaving until someone explains.”

Clara pulled free from him.

“For five years, Adrián’s company survived because of anonymous capital.”

My stomach tightened.

I knew about those investments.

Adrián had always called them “private European funds.”

Clara continued.

“Those funds came through Montes Capital.”

I stared at her.

“Your family?”

She smiled.

“My father.”

Adrián suddenly snapped.

“Your father was only an intermediary.”

Clara’s smile disappeared.

“Then tell Valeria whose money it actually was.”

Silence.

My heart began pounding.

Adrián looked at me.

And I knew.

Before he even spoke.

“Valeria…”

I opened my bag and pulled out my phone.

“My father died eleven years ago.”

“Yes.”

“He left me a trust.”

Adrián said nothing.

I remembered the documents I had signed shortly after our wedding.

He had told me they were routine marital asset forms.

I had trusted him.

Clara whispered:

“That trust financed him.”

The room seemed to tilt.

“How much?”

Adrián looked away.

Clara answered.

“Almost everything.”

I laughed once.

Coldly.

“So while you told everyone you built Valdés Global from nothing…”

I looked at my husband.

“…you built it with my inheritance?”

“It wasn’t like that.”

“Then explain it.”

He stepped toward me.

“I was going to repay everything.”

“Ten years later?”

His face hardened.

“I made that money grow.”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“You made yourself famous with money you stole access to.”

Outside, applause suddenly erupted.

The anniversary video was beginning.

Our guests were celebrating us while my marriage collapsed behind a locked door.

Then my phone vibrated.

Unknown number.

One message.

Before you confront Adrián publicly, check the ownership documents of Valdés Global. He lied to Clara too.

Attached was a photograph.

I opened it.

And froze.

The company registration showed a majority shareholder I had never seen before.

Not Adrián.

Not Clara’s father.

Not me.

A woman named:

Elena Valdés.

I looked up slowly.

“Who is Elena?”

Adrián went completely white.

Clara’s expression changed too.

For the first time that night…

she looked genuinely confused.

And then someone knocked on the door.

Three slow knocks.

Adrián whispered:

“She wasn’t supposed to come tonight.”
