PART 2: THE OATH THAT DESTROYED ETHAN BROOKS

The doctor closed the emergency room door behind us.

For the first time that night, there were no cameras.

No curious eyes.

No whispers.

Only silence.

The doctor looked at me seriously.

—Mrs. Brooks, before we continue, I need to confirm something.

I nodded.

—What?

He hesitated.

—Did your husband mention anything unusual before this happened?

I almost laughed.

Unusual?

How could I explain that my husband had just made a promise that turned into reality?

—He made an oath.

The doctor frowned.

—An oath?

I touched the red jade hidden beneath my dress.

—He said that if he was lying to me, he and that woman would never be able to separate.

The doctor stared at me.

For a moment, he looked like he wanted to say something but decided against it.

—Mrs. Brooks, I don’t know what caused this, but the medical examinations show that there is no normal explanation.

I wasn’t surprised.

The Carter family’s jade had never failed.

But I didn’t tell him that.

I just asked:

—Can they be separated?

The doctor lowered his eyes.

—We are trying.

—But?

—Every attempt has failed.

I looked through the glass window.

Ethan was still on the stretcher.

The man who once promised me forever.

The man who said I was the only woman he would ever love.

Now he couldn’t even look at me.

Because everyone finally saw the truth.

Not the perfect husband.

Not the successful businessman.

Just a man who betrayed his wife.

The door opened.

Margaret entered with a furious expression.

—Emily, this is enough.

I turned around.

—Enough?

She pointed at Ethan.

—You are his wife. You should help him, not stand there watching him suffer.

I looked at her calmly.

—When he was hurting me, where were you?

Her expression changed.

—Don’t talk nonsense.

—Three years.

I stepped closer.

—Three years watching your son come home late.

—Three years watching him run whenever Vanessa called.

—Three years telling me to be patient because “men are busy.”

Margaret became silent.

I smiled.

—But now that everyone knows, suddenly I am responsible?

Chloe immediately interrupted.

—You used some trick!

Everyone turned.

She continued:

—You always hated Vanessa. Maybe you did something to them.

I looked at her.

Then at Ethan.

—Did you hear that?

Ethan closed his eyes.

For the first time, he looked ashamed.

Because even he knew how ridiculous it sounded.

A nurse entered with a document.

—Mrs. Brooks, this was found in Mr. Brooks’ belongings.

She handed me a phone.

Ethan’s phone.

I looked at the screen.

A message was open.

From Vanessa.

“I can’t wait anymore. When are you going to tell Emily?”

Below was Ethan’s reply.

“After the company merger.”

My fingers stopped.

Company merger.

So that was the reason.

I looked at Ethan.

—You weren’t planning to leave me.

His face changed.

—Emily…

I continued reading.

Another message.

Vanessa:

“What if she finds out?”

Ethan:

“She won’t. She is too dependent on me.”

Silence.

The whole room went quiet.

Margaret looked at her son.

Chloe stopped defending him.

Because the truth was no longer a suspicion.

It was written there.

I handed the phone back to the nurse.

—Keep it as evidence.

Ethan’s eyes widened.

—Evidence?

I looked at him.

—Yes.

—Because from tonight, I don’t want to be your wife anymore.

His face turned pale.

—Emily, don’t do this.

I smiled.

The same smile I had when I received his call earlier.

Cold.

Calm.

Finished.

—You told me to trust you.

—You told me I was too sensitive.

—You told me Vanessa was like your sister.

I looked at the stretcher.

—But your own oath proved you wrong.

At that moment, another person entered the emergency room.

My grandfather.

The head of the Carter family.

Behind him were two lawyers.

Ethan immediately froze.

Because he knew.

The Carter family was not just a normal family.

And I was not just the wife who stayed at home.

My grandfather looked at Ethan.

Then at Vanessa.

His voice was cold.

—The divorce papers are ready.

Ethan’s expression changed completely.

—Divorce?

I nodded.

—Yes.

He stared at me.

—After everything?

I looked at him quietly.

—No, Ethan.

—Because of everything.

My grandfather handed me a folder.

I opened it.

Inside was not only the divorce agreement.

There was another document.

A report about the Brooks family’s company.

I looked at the first page.

And my expression changed.

Because I finally understood something.

Ethan’s betrayal wasn’t the only secret.

The woman he risked our marriage for…

had been hiding something much bigger.

And when that truth came out…

the entire Brooks family would fall.
