PART 2: THE SECRET BEHIND SERENA’S PREGNANCY

I didn’t know about the ultrasound until the next morning.

Olivia called me at seven.

Her voice was strange.

Not angry.

Not shocked.

Something closer to disbelief.

“Emma.”

I sat up in bed.

“What happened?”

There was silence for a few seconds.

Then she said:

“I went back to the restaurant last night.”

My fingers tightened around the phone.

“Why?”

“Because I forgot my bag.”

I waited.

“And I found something.”

I didn’t ask.

I already knew.

“Serena’s ultrasound report.”

My heart stopped for a second.

“What about it?”

Olivia took a deep breath.

“The father’s name.”

She paused.

“It wasn’t Ethan Walker.”

I closed my eyes.

For a moment, I felt nothing.

Not happiness.

Not revenge.

Just exhaustion.

After all those years.

After all those promises.

After all the lies.

The truth finally arrived.

But it didn’t make me feel better.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

“Olivia, don’t guess.”

“I’m not guessing.”

Her voice became serious.

“I saw it clearly.”

“The biological father listed on the report…”

“Was someone else.”

I sat silently on the edge of the bed.

The same bed where Ethan had promised me a future.

The same room where he kissed my forehead and said:

“Emma, you are the only person I want.”

How many times had he said that while hiding another life?

At nine in the morning, Ethan came to my apartment.

I knew it before opening the door.

Because he still knocked the same way.

Three times.

A pause.

Then two more.

A habit from when we first started dating.

A habit I once thought was cute.

I opened the door.

He looked terrible.

His shirt was wrinkled.

His eyes were red.

“Emma.”

I didn’t move.

“What do you want?”

He swallowed.

“I need to explain.”

“No.”

His expression changed.

“No?”

“You had six months.”

“You had every day.”

“Every message.”

“Every night you came home and lied.”

He lowered his head.

“I made a mistake.”

I smiled faintly.

“Everyone makes mistakes.”

“But not everyone builds a second relationship while promising someone else a future.”

He stepped closer.

“Emma, please.”

“I don’t care about Serena anymore.”

I looked at him.

That sentence surprised me.

Not because it hurt.

Because it was ridiculous.

“Don’t care?”

I laughed softly.

“Ethan.”

“You told me yesterday you couldn’t abandon her because she was pregnant.”

His face became tense.

“I didn’t know the truth.”

“The truth?”

I looked at him.

“The truth is that you betrayed me.”

“The baby’s father doesn’t change that.”

For the first time, he had nothing to say.

At that moment, his phone rang.

He looked at the screen.

Serena.

He hesitated.

Then answered.

I didn’t intend to listen.

But her voice was loud enough.

“Ethan, where are you?”

“I’m handling something.”

“You need to come back.”

Her tone changed.

“You promised me.”

Ethan frowned.

“Promised what?”

There was a pause.

Then Serena whispered:

“That you would take care of me even if he found out.”

My eyes narrowed.

Even if he found out.

Not Emma.

Not the truth.

Just “he”.

Ethan looked at me.

He realized I had heard.

“Serena, what are you talking about?”

Her voice became nervous.

“I…”

Then the call ended.

Ethan stared at the phone.

I watched him.

For the first time, he looked afraid.

Not guilty.

Afraid.

Because he was starting to understand.

Maybe he had not been the only person being deceived.

That afternoon, Ethan went to find Serena.

And I went to meet Olivia.

She placed the ultrasound report on the table.

“I don’t think this is over.”

I looked at the document.

“Neither do I.”

There was one detail that bothered me.

The date.

The pregnancy was sixteen weeks.

Exactly the same period Ethan said the affair started.

But the medical record showed something else.

Serena had already been receiving prenatal care before that.

Meaning…

She was pregnant before Ethan ever became involved with her.

I slowly closed the folder.

A strange calm appeared inside me.

Because suddenly everything made sense.

The tears.

The timing.

The pressure.

The announcement in front of everyone.

She wasn’t trying to take Ethan away from me.

She was trying to make Ethan take responsibility for a child that wasn’t his.

But I still didn’t know the biggest secret.

Because that night, when Ethan confronted Serena…

She finally admitted the truth.

The baby wasn’t his.

But the man who was actually the father…

Was someone Ethan knew very well.
