PART 2: THE SECRET CLARA HID FOR FIVE YEARS

Adrian remained silent after hearing Mateo Ferrer’s name.

For the first time in a long time, he had no prepared answer.

—Mateo Ferrer? —he repeated.

—Yes.

—The heir of Ferrer Holdings?

—Yes.

Clara’s calm response seemed to bother him more than any accusation.

Because in his imagination, Clara had returned to Madrid with a broken heart.

He expected to find the same woman who had cried at the station five years ago while he chose to walk away.

But the woman standing in front of him now was different.

She no longer expected anything from him.

Five years earlier.

The last night before leaving, Clara had gone to find him.

Adrian was attending a business dinner.

She waited outside in the rain for two hours.

When he finally came out, he was holding Lucia’s hand.

Although at that time, she was not yet his official girlfriend.

—Clara, what are you doing here?

She looked at him.

She wanted to ask if he still loved her.

She wanted to ask if five years together meant anything.

But then she heard Lucia say:

—Adrian, let’s go. It’s raining.

And he answered:

—Yes.

Without even looking at Clara.

That was the moment she understood.

Not because Adrian had stopped loving her.

But because he had stopped choosing her.

That night, she returned home.

And found the medical results on the table.

Two lines.

A positive pregnancy test.

She was pregnant.

With the child of the man who had just chosen to lose her.

For five years, nobody knew the truth.

Not her father.

Not Adrian.

Not even their old friends.

Clara left the country.

There, she gave birth to her son.

A little boy with Adrian’s eyes.

But there was one difference.

That child had never known his father.

Because Clara decided she would never let her son grow up waiting for someone who had already chosen not to stay.

Back to the present.

Adrian looked at the ring on Clara’s finger.

—Are you really going to marry him?

—Yes.

—Do you love him?

The question came out too quickly.

Clara raised her eyes.

For years, she had waited to hear those words.

But now they sounded empty.

—He is a good person.

Adrian tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

—That doesn’t answer my question.

—Then it doesn’t matter.

The silence inside the car became uncomfortable.

For the first time, Adrian felt that the woman in front of him was beyond his reach.

That night, while Clara was arranging the final details of her wedding, she received a call.

It was from her son’s school.

—Mrs. Clara, we need to confirm the child’s father’s information.

Her hand stopped.

—Why?

—The child had a medical issue, and we need family genetic information.

Clara closed her eyes.

She couldn’t hide it forever.

But she wasn’t ready.

Because at that exact moment, she heard a voice behind her.

—The father’s information?

She turned around.

Adrian was standing at the door.

She didn’t know how much he had heard.

His eyes slowly moved toward the folder in Clara’s hand.

Then toward the photograph on the table.

A picture of a four-year-old boy.

A boy with his exact eyes.

Adrian’s world stopped.

—Clara…

His voice came out as a whisper.

—Who is that child?

She didn’t answer.

Adrian stepped forward.

For the first time in five years, he looked truly afraid.

—Tell me this isn’t what I’m thinking.

Clara held his gaze.

And after keeping silent for so many years, she finally said:

—Adrian…

—That child is your son.
