PART 2: THE MANSION THAT EXPOSED HIS TRUE INTENTIONS

The room went completely silent.

Margaret Blake was still holding the microphone, smiling confidently, waiting for everyone to celebrate the moment when her son would finally own the mansion on Laurel Avenue.

She had imagined this scene many times.

Her son becoming the head of the family.

His wife bringing the mansion into the marriage.

A property worth millions becoming another symbol of the Blake family’s power.

But she didn’t know one thing.

The house she wanted was already out of their reach.

My father stood slowly.

He didn’t raise his voice.

He didn’t need to.

—How curious that you ask for it today… because that house no longer belongs to my daughter.

Adrian’s smile disappeared.

“What are you talking about?”

My father looked at him.

—I’m saying that the mansion on Laurel Avenue was transferred seventy-four days ago.

Margaret’s expression changed.

“Transferred to whom?”

My father calmly adjusted his suit.

“To me.”

A wave of whispers spread through the banquet hall.

Adrian stared at me.

For a few seconds, he looked confused.

Then angry.

“Emma.”

I looked at him.

“Did you know about this?”

“Yes.”

His jaw tightened.

“And you didn’t tell me?”

I smiled slightly.

“No.”

The same way he didn’t tell me he had already used my house as collateral.

The same way he didn’t tell me he had planned a future where my property became his family’s security.

Margaret stepped forward.

“This is ridiculous. She is your wife now.”

My father looked at her.

“No. She became his wife today.”

He paused.

“But that mansion belonged to my daughter before she ever met your son.”

Adrian laughed coldly.

“So this was all a test?”

“No,” I answered.

“This was protection.”

His face changed.

For the first time, I saw something I had never seen in three years.

Fear.

“You don’t trust me?”

I looked around the room.

All the guests were watching.

The same people who had just been ready to congratulate Adrian for gaining access to my inheritance.

“I trusted you for three years.”

My voice remained calm.

“That’s why I listened when you talked about our future.”

“I believed you when you said we were partners.”

“But partners don’t secretly offer assets that don’t belong to them.”

Adrian’s mother immediately defended him.

“He only wanted to use the house temporarily. A husband and wife share everything.”

My father interrupted.

“Sharing requires permission.”

The hall became silent again.

“He didn’t ask her.”

“He presented her property as if it was already his.”

Adrian looked at me.

“Emma, I was building a future for us.”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“You were building a future with my foundation.”

Those words hurt him more than I expected.

Because deep down, he knew they were true.

Then my father placed another folder on the table.

Adrian looked at it.

“What is that?”

“The financing documents from your company.”

His face froze.

My father opened the folder.

“The bank rejected your loan request after reviewing the actual ownership records.”

Margaret’s eyes widened.

“What loan?”

I looked at Adrian.

“How much did you need?”

Nobody answered.

My father did.

“Eight million dollars.”

The guests gasped.

Adrian’s company was not as successful as everyone believed.

The expensive lifestyle.

The luxury cars.

The business meetings.

Most of it was built on loans and promises.

And the one thing he wanted to use as security was something he didn’t own.

My father’s voice remained cold.

“He was planning to convince Emma to add his name to the property after marriage.”

Adrian looked away.

That was his answer.

I felt something inside me finally break.

Not my heart.

The illusion.

The woman who walked down that aisle still hoped she was wrong.

She hoped there was an explanation.

But there wasn’t.

The man who promised to protect me had been calculating what he could take from me.

Margaret suddenly pointed at my father.

“You manipulated her.”

My father looked at me.

Then back at her.

“No.”

“I gave her information.”

“She made her own decision.”

And that was the difference.

For the first time in my life, my father wasn’t controlling my choices.

He was helping me see them clearly.

Adrian stepped closer.

“Emma, let’s talk privately.”

I looked at him.

“About what?”

“About us.”

I almost smiled.

“Adrian, there was an ‘us’ when you respected me.”

His expression darkened.

“Are you really going to destroy our marriage because of a misunderstanding?”

I looked at the wedding ring on my finger.

Then slowly removed it.

The sound of the ring touching the table was louder than anyone expected.

“This isn’t about a house.”

I placed it beside the documents.

“It’s about discovering that the person standing beside me was already planning how to own me.”

No one spoke.

I walked toward the exit.

Behind me, Adrian called my name.

“Emma!”

I stopped.

But I didn’t turn around.

Because I already knew what he would say.

He would apologize.

He would explain.

He would promise to change.

The same words people say when they realize they are about to lose something valuable.

But I was no longer something valuable to be possessed.

I was a person.

And I had finally remembered that.

As I stepped outside, my father followed me.

For a moment, we stood silently.

Then he said:

“I know I was hard on you.”

I looked at him.

“Yes, you were.”

He nodded.

“But today you didn’t save my mansion.”

He looked at me.

“You saved yourself.”

I didn’t answer.

Because for the first time in years…

I knew he was right.

But what none of us knew was that Adrian Blake’s biggest secret had not been discovered yet.

Because the mansion was not the only thing he had tried to take from me.

And when the truth about his company finally came out…

The entire Blake family would realize that losing Laurel Avenue was only the beginning of their downfall.
