Part 2: THE NAME HIDDEN INSIDE THE BILLIONAIRE’S LAST SECRET.

I stared at the document in front of me, unable to breathe.

The name printed on the page wasn’t a stranger’s.

It was mine.

“Daniel Carter.”

My fingers went cold.

For a few seconds, I convinced myself there had to be another explanation. Millions of people had the same name. Maybe Renee’s company had hired someone with my name years ago. Maybe this was some kind of mistake.

But then I saw the photograph attached to the file.

A young man standing outside a small apartment building.

A man who looked exactly like me twenty years earlier.

I looked up at Renee.

“What is this?”

She didn’t answer immediately.

For the first time since I met her, the woman who controlled a billion-dollar empire looked powerless.

“Your father,” she whispered.

My heart stopped.

I hadn’t heard those words connected to me in years.

My father had disappeared when I was eight. My mother told me he was gone, and eventually I stopped asking questions. I grew up believing he was just another man who walked away from his family.

“What does my father have to do with Sterling Global?”

Renee pushed the folder closer.

“Arthur Sterling didn’t build this company alone.”

I looked back at the papers.

There were old contracts. Financial records. Photos from decades ago.

And at the center of everything was a company name I had never heard before.

Carter Technologies.

“My father bought this company twenty-five years ago,” Renee continued. “But before he died, he left instructions that certain documents could only be opened if I was ever in danger of losing control of Sterling Global.”

“Why would my name be there?”

“Because your father was the original inventor behind some of Sterling Global’s most important technology.”

I laughed.

Not because it was funny.

Because it was impossible.

“My father was a mechanic.”

“That’s what everyone was supposed to believe.”

The room became silent.

I thought about my childhood. The nights my father stayed awake drawing strange designs on paper. The old boxes in our basement filled with notes and diagrams that I never understood.

I remembered asking him what he was building.

He always smiled and said:

“Something that will matter someday.”

I had forgotten those words.

Until now.

Renee leaned forward.

“Daniel, someone inside Sterling Global knows you exist.”

“Who?”

Her expression changed.

“Marcus.”

The name hit harder than I expected.

The man who abandoned her when she became sick.

The man she believed had only betrayed her heart.

“He wasn’t just my boyfriend,” Renee said quietly. “He was working with someone on the board. They wanted me removed before I could access my father’s final files.”

“And they needed me because…”

“Because your DNA is the final authorization key.”

I stared at her.

“You’re saying I can control part of this company?”

“No.”

She shook her head.

“I’m saying you can expose the people who stole it.”

Before I could respond, the lights suddenly flickered.

Once.

Twice.

Then the entire estate went dark.

Renee immediately grabbed my arm.

“Don’t move.”

“What?”

“Someone knows we found the files.”

A sound came from the hallway.

A slow step.

Then another.

I felt every muscle in my body tighten.

The security system at the mansion was supposed to be impossible to break. Renee had cameras, guards, and technology worth millions protecting her.

But whoever was outside had already entered.

I reached for my phone.

No signal.

Renee whispered:

“There’s a hidden room behind the library wall. Take the folder and go there.”

“What about you?”

She looked toward the door.

“Daniel, listen to me. If they find you with those documents, they won’t just take the company from you.”

A shadow passed beneath the doorway.

“They’ll make sure nobody ever knows the truth.”

The door handle slowly began to turn.

Renee grabbed my hand and placed a small metal key in my palm.

“Whatever happens, do not give this to anyone.”

The door opened.

And the person standing there was the last person I expected to see.

Because I knew him.

I had known him for years.

And he had been hiding the biggest secret of my life.
