PART 2: THE SECRET MY SISTER HID FOR THREE YEARS.

I couldn’t move.

The papers in my hand felt heavier than anything I had ever carried.

My father’s name was printed clearly on the hospital documents. The date matched the week Maya had told me he was “recovering beautifully” at the private facility.

But he had never been there.

Not even for a single day.

I looked around that tiny room again.

The cracked walls.

The old heater making a strange clicking sound.

The single blanket covering my father’s weak body.

And Lucy.

My ex-wife.

The woman I had spent three years hating.

Three years believing she had destroyed my family.

Three years refusing to hear her side of the story.

“Tell me everything,” I whispered.

Lucy stared at me.

For a moment, I thought she would refuse.

Honestly, I deserved it.

But then she looked at my father lying helplessly on the bed, and her expression softened.

“Your father had the stroke six months ago,” she said quietly. “Maya was the first person called because she was listed as the emergency contact.”

I swallowed.

“She told the doctors she would handle everything.”

Lucy walked toward the small table and placed another folder in front of me.

“She told them your father didn’t have anyone else.”

My hands tightened.

“That’s impossible.”

“No, Alexander. What’s impossible is that you believed every lie she told you without ever visiting your own father.”

The words hit harder than I expected.

Because she was right.

I had been too busy expanding my business.

Too busy proving to everyone that I had built something.

Too busy being angry at Lucy.

I had accepted videos from Maya as proof.

I had accepted excuses.

I had accepted distance.

Because it was easier than facing the possibility that I had failed the person who raised me.

“What happened after the stroke?” I asked.

Lucy looked toward my father.

“Maya convinced the doctors that long-term rehabilitation was unnecessary. She signed papers removing him from care and took control of his finances.”

My face went cold.

“My father’s finances?”

Lucy nodded.

“Your father trusted her. He gave her access years ago.”

I looked at my father.

His eyes closed as tears rolled down his cheeks.

He wasn’t just crying because he was sick.

He was crying because he knew I had been fooled.

And because he knew he had lost years with me.

“Why didn’t he tell me?” I asked.

Lucy’s expression changed.

“He tried.”

She opened another envelope.

Inside were several letters.

All addressed to me.

My name.

My old office address.

My previous home address.

Every single one had been returned.

“Your sister made sure they never reached you.”

My chest tightened.

Then I remembered something.

Three years earlier.

The day I threw Lucy out.

Maya had been the one who called me.

She told me she had discovered Lucy’s betrayal.

She gave me bank records.

She gave me messages.

She gave me everything I needed to hate my wife.

But now…

I wasn’t sure I had ever seen the truth.

“Lucy,” I said slowly.

She looked at me.

“The money she claimed you stole from my company…”

Lucy’s eyes filled with disappointment.

“You still believe that?”

I had no answer.

She walked to the corner of the room and pulled out an old laptop.

“I spent three years trying to prove this.”

She opened a file.

There were emails.

Transaction records.

Security footage.

A complete investigation.

My hands trembled as I looked through the evidence.

The money had never gone to Lucy.

It had gone through an account controlled by someone else.

Someone who knew exactly how to make it look like my wife was guilty.

Someone who knew I would never question her.

My sister.

Maya.

I stepped back.

“No…”

Lucy looked at me.

“She destroyed my reputation because she needed you angry enough to stop looking.”

The room became silent.

Then my father suddenly grabbed my sleeve.

His weak fingers squeezed as hard as he could.

He pointed toward the folder.

Inside was one final document.

A document I hadn’t noticed before.

I pulled it out.

It was a legal transfer agreement.

My father had changed his inheritance plans.

And the beneficiary was not Maya.

It was me.

But there was a handwritten note attached.

Only one sentence.

“If anything happens to me, find out why your sister was so desperate to control everything.”

I stared at those words.

Because suddenly, the question wasn’t whether Maya had lied.

The question was how far she had gone to keep the truth hidden.

And as I looked at Lucy standing there, exhausted but still protecting my father after everything I had done to her, I realized something terrifying.

The woman I abandoned had spent three years saving the family I destroyed.

Then my phone started ringing.

The screen showed one name.

Maya.

I answered.

And the first words she said made my blood run cold.

“Alexander… please tell me you haven’t seen Dad yet.”
