PART 2: THE WIFE WHO LEFT THE LU FAMILY BEHIND

When I walked out of the flower shop, I didn’t look back.

Not because I wasn’t hurt.

But because I finally understood something.

A person who truly valued me would never wait until I was leaving to realize my importance.

The rain fell harder.

I stood under the streetlight, holding my bag tightly.

Three years ago, I left my career for Adrian Lu.

Everyone said I was lucky.

The Lu family was powerful.

Adrian was talented.

He was the youngest executive in the company.

People believed I had married into a perfect family.

Nobody knew what I had given up.

My architecture career.

My projects.

My dreams.

I convinced myself it was worth it because I had a husband who loved me.

But today…

I finally accepted the truth.

I was the only person still protecting that marriage.

When I arrived home, the first thing I did was open my old office.

The room had been untouched for three years.

My drawings.

My certificates.

My professional books.

Everything was still there.

Waiting for me.

I touched the edge of my old portfolio.

Before becoming Mrs. Lu…

I was Isabella Wen.

A woman who had won international design awards.

A woman who had built her own reputation.

I wasn’t someone who needed Adrian Lu to survive.

I had simply forgotten that.

My phone rang.

It was my former mentor.

Professor Zhang.

I hesitated before answering.

“Isabella?”

His voice sounded surprised.

“Are you finally ready to come back?”

I was silent.

Then I smiled.

“Yes.”

There was a pause.

“Are you sure?”

I looked around the room.

At the life I had paused for someone else.

“More sure than ever.”

The next morning, I went to my old company.

Many people were surprised to see me.

Some didn’t even recognize me at first.

But when they saw my name on the appointment list…

everyone became quiet.

My former director personally came out to welcome me.

“Isabella Wen.”

“It’s been a long time.”

I smiled.

“Yes.”

“But I’m back.”

While I was rebuilding my career, Adrian was facing a completely different situation.

The Lu family mansion was no longer peaceful.

Because Clara Jiang’s pregnancy had become impossible to hide.

The family members who once praised Adrian began asking questions.

Why did the secretary know about the pregnancy before his wife?

Why did Adrian hide it?

Why did he plan to send Clara away instead of acknowledging the child?

The same relatives who cared about reputation began blaming him.

Not because they cared about me.

But because they feared losing face.

That evening, Adrian came home late.

He expected to see me waiting.

Like always.

But the house was empty.

My clothes were gone.

My belongings were gone.

Only the divorce documents remained on the table.

He stared at them for a long time.

For the first time, panic appeared on his face.

He called me.

I didn’t answer.

Again.

And again.

Finally, a message appeared.

“Isabella, we need to talk.”

I looked at the screen.

Then replied:

“About what?”

His answer came quickly.

“About us.”

I smiled slightly.

“Adrian.”

“There is no us anymore.”

A few minutes later, he called again.

This time, I answered.

“Why are you doing this?”

His voice was tired.

I almost laughed.

“Why?”

“Yes.”

“Why leave?”

I looked out the office window.

Because after everything…

he still didn’t understand.

“I didn’t leave because Clara is pregnant.”

Silence.

“I left because when you saw me hurt, your first concern was your reputation.”

“Not me.”

Adrian didn’t speak.

“I left because your mother asked me to forgive before she asked you to explain.”

“I left because you looked at another woman like she was precious…”

“And looked at your wife like she was a problem.”

His breathing became heavier.

“Isabella…”

“No.”

I interrupted.

“Don’t apologize now.”

“An apology after losing someone is not love.”

“It’s regret.”

The line became silent.

Then he asked softly:

“Do you really not love me anymore?”

I closed my eyes.

The old Isabella would have cried.

She would have wanted to say yes.

She would have hoped he would change.

But the new Isabella only answered:

“I loved you enough to lose myself.”

“Now I love myself enough to leave.”

I ended the call.

One month later, the divorce hearing began.

Adrian arrived with his lawyer.

Everyone expected me to be weak.

A woman who had abandoned her career.

A wife who depended on her husband’s family.

They were wrong.

When the judge asked about my occupation, I calmly answered:

“Isabella Wen.”

“Founder and chief designer of Wen Architecture Studio.”

The courtroom became silent.

Adrian looked at me in disbelief.

Because he never knew.

The woman he thought needed his protection…

had built an empire before she met him.

After the hearing, he stopped me outside.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

I looked at him.

“Because I wanted you to love Isabella.”

“Not the daughter of the Wen family.”

His expression changed.

“But you never even gave me that chance.”

I didn’t answer.

Because that was the saddest truth.

He had spent three years looking for value in other women.

While the woman beside him had always been enough.

As I walked away, my phone received a message.

From an unknown number.

It was Clara Jiang.

Only one sentence.

“Isabella, I need to tell you the truth about Adrian.”

I frowned.

Then another message arrived.

“I was never the woman he loved.”

“He used me for something much bigger.”

I looked at the screen.

For the first time since leaving the Lu family…

I felt curious.

Because maybe Adrian Lu’s betrayal was only the beginning.

And the biggest secret of this marriage…

was still hidden.
