PART 2: THE FORTUNE HE THOUGHT HE COULD TAKE BACK

Adrián Shen stared at the empty patio for a long time.

The mansion that once belonged to his family no longer looked like the place he remembered.

The servants no longer rushed toward him.

Nobody called him “young master.”

Nobody lowered their heads and waited for his orders.

The only person standing in front of him was me.

The woman he had left behind seven years ago.

The woman he thought would still be waiting.

“Elena,” he said slowly, trying to control his anger, “you sold everything without telling me?”

I looked at him.

“Did you tell me before leaving?”

His expression froze.

For the first time, he had no answer.

Seven years ago, he left with a promise.

He said he would return soon.

He said Clara Qin only needed his protection because of his master’s final request.

He said I was his wife, and he would never abandon me.

But promises were easy when someone else had to pay the price.

I was the one who stayed.

I was the one who faced the creditors.

I was the one who buried my pride and begged suppliers to give me another chance.

I was the one who carried Aurora through the cold nights when she was sick.

And now he came back expecting everything to be exactly as he left it.

Adrián opened the folder I gave him.

His eyes moved quickly across the documents.

Then his face changed.

“These debts…”

“Your debts.”

“The workers…”

“Workers you left unpaid.”

“The businesses…”

“Businesses I saved from being taken by creditors.”

His fingers tightened around the papers.

“You managed all of this alone?”

I almost laughed.

“Who else was going to do it?”

He looked at Aurora.

Our daughter was standing beside me, holding my hand tightly.

There was no curiosity in her eyes.

Only distance.

A daughter should have recognized her father.

But she didn’t.

Because he had never been there.

Adrián seemed to finally understand the weight of those seven years.

He took a step forward.

“Aurora, I’m your father.”

The girl looked at him quietly.

Then she asked:

“Where were you when Mom was sick?”

Adrián opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

“Where were you when she worked until midnight?”

Silence.

“Where were you when everyone said we would lose this house?”

His face became pale.

Aurora’s voice remained calm.

“You came back because you lost something.”

She looked at the mansion.

“Not because you missed us.”

That sentence hit him harder than any accusation.

Even Clara Qin looked uncomfortable.

She stepped forward gently.

“Aurora, don’t speak to your father like that.”

I turned toward her.

“Don’t.”

My voice was not loud.

But everyone stopped.

“You were not there.”

Clara lowered her eyes.

“You don’t know what happened between us.”

I smiled.

“You’re right.”

“I don’t know everything.”

“I only know that when I was lying on the floor bleeding, he chose to leave.”

The color disappeared from Clara’s face.

Adrián immediately interrupted.

“Enough.”

But this time, his command meant nothing.

I looked at him.

“No.”

“Not enough.”

“Seven years were enough for you to forget us.”

“But apparently not enough for you to forget this house.”

The atmosphere became completely silent.

Then Adrián suddenly noticed something.

“The remaining money.”

His voice changed.

More urgent.

“Where did you put the money from the sale?”

I looked at him.

And finally understood.

After seven years, after seeing his daughter for the first time, after seeing everything I suffered…

The first thing he cared about was still money.

I smiled.

“I knew you would ask.”

I took another document from my bag.

“This is the transfer agreement.”

His eyes followed the paper.

“The money was divided into three parts.”

“One part paid all remaining debts.”

“One part was placed in Aurora’s name.”

“And the last part…”

I paused.

Adrián stared at me.

“Where?”

I folded the document.

“The last part was donated.”

His expression changed completely.

“Donated?”

“Yes.”

“To the families of the workers you abandoned seven years ago.”

The patio became silent.

Even the servants looked at Adrián.

Because everyone remembered.

They remembered who stayed.

And who left.

Adrián’s face turned cold.

“You did this to punish me.”

I shook my head.

“No.”

“I did this because I finally stopped living for you.”

At that moment, a car stopped outside the gate.

Everyone turned.

A woman in an elegant coat stepped out.

She held a sealed envelope in her hand.

She walked directly toward me.

“Mrs. Elena Kai.”

She handed me the envelope.

“I apologize for arriving late.”

Adrián frowned.

“Who is she?”

The woman looked at him calmly.

“She represents the Shen family’s old legal office.”

Then she looked at me.

“And I have come to deliver the final document your late father-in-law left before his death.”

Adrián froze.

“My father?”

I opened the envelope.

The first line made his entire expression change.

Because the document was not about the mansion.

It was not about the money.

It was about the true inheritance of the Shen family.

And according to the will…

Adrián Shen was no longer the person chosen to control it.
